Found what I think are some good prices on electric blankets. Never bought one before, but want one getting into the winter months. After shopping around this was about as cheap as I could find these.

I've rounded the prices in the title by a few cents to save on room, all are actually a couple of cents cheaper ;)

I can't speak to any differences between Breville and Sunbeam, I went the Breville because I liked the sound of the quilted cover (though I could of just bought one of these separately), the BodyZone functionality and the controller looked better. But I'm a simple minded bloke with disposable income. The basic Sunbeams are a lot cheaper :)

  • i go this last winter and works a treat, auto shut off is good too cause i always fall asleep

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/jason-fully-fitted-machine-wash…

  • for that price better get some real doona

i'm contemplating on the heated throw … kmart $35 or sunbeam for 2x price

    • heated throw is excellent. wait for Aldi to bring out their heated throws.

    • missus has the Kmart one, it warms up and hasn't blown up, so works well!

    • The Sunbeam heated throws are good, thick. I have a generic brand one and it feels thin and harsh in comparison, but I bought online. If you can fondle in shop you can compare. I would like them to be a bit longer, but most are this kind of size. They seem to have updated the control which was a weak point of them previously.

They are superb for on couch comfort. Cats love them. You can even use them to quickly heat your bed if you don't have an electric blanket - just put in on high for 10 mins. If you use a top sheet under a quilt you can also use it between that sheet and the quilt all night.

  • these goes under your bedsheet right ?

    not a blanket ?

    • Yes

    • Yeah, they're a bit like a mattress protector or a fitted sheet :)

We have a few different brands in our house…. and they are all good. Just make sure there is timer/sleep and that there are controls for both sides of the bed. Kmart cheap ones work just as well - i put that under the quilted mattress protector. I set timer for medium heat for an hour and Turn it on about 10 mins before i go to bed (eg when i go bathroom to brush teeth etc). Hop into a warm bed….get all toasty warm…and I will either turn it off before i fall asleep or if I fall asleep it will turn off by itself when the timer runs out.

    • Thanks for the advice! First time buying one, so I went with a recognised brand. My concern with the cheaper ones are always fire hazards and tripping of electrical circuits. Sounds like that may not be the case. Thanks for the advice :) I'll snuggle up with my $200 Breville one and convince myself it was worth the extra :P

  • Perfect! Just in time as it's getting so much colder in Sydney!

    • From the Hunter. Can confirm, effing cold.

  • All of my 4 expensive Sunbeam electric blankets failed to work after one season due to the poorly designed controller. The replacement is almost the cost of the electric blanket itself. Avoid Avoid.

The Breville's seem to come with a 3 year warranty. Do Sunbeams not have them?

Went into David Jones the other day and Breville was mostly out, but with lots of Sunbeams. The David Jones employee told me he'd recommend the Sunbeams because they always have plenty in store to replace if it breaks in the middle of winter, where Brevilles are normally out of stock. That was quite possibly the worst logic I had ever heard.

Insurance companies hate this, learn how to make an enemy out of your house, content and health insurance provider with one easy step.

    • health insurance provider? What are you on about..

      • When the blanket sets you and your house on fire, all 3 will have to pay you

  • If you have a Queen size bed and a partner that hogs the quilt get a Super King one. They're much wider and about 300mm longer than a Queen size.
