  • So which came first the a118c or the gator?

  • -4

The A118C (same as this) can be had for around $40 Gearbest (I have one in my Mazda). Not a deal

    • +7

Why is it new member's with no posts are so quick to neg? You haven't even bothered to check Gearbest before negging.

Lucky for you it is cheaper but not $40.00, although it doesn't include a 4gb memory card & won't have a 12 month Aus warranty.
      A118C $57.76 + $1.33 shipping

        • +13

So post it yourself when it's on sale for $40. It's not on sale now so why the song and dance?

          Let's break it down.

          Gearbest
          - No AU warranty
          - Returns could be problematic (long wait and cost of return shipping)
          + cheaper

          JB
          + AU warranty
          + No hassle returns
          + 4GB SD card
          - Costs a bit more

          Did I miss anything?

        • @Trickey: i personally don't buy any local dash cameras regardless of warranty because guess what? They're rubbish video quality.

Viofo models / A118C all better than what you get here. 4GB card and warranty doesn't mean jack when you can't even capture the licence plate in the accident

    • +2

The A118C does not have driver fatigue or headlight alerts. It's a different SKU.

      • +2

Nor does the specs or faq mention wdr or hdr.

A118c might be a good cheap dashcam but its different to the gator. Looking the same does not impart equality.

    4 whole gigabytes!

How much 1080p footage could you fit on that? A driveway's worth?

    • +1

mpeg2 would only get you a few minutes but h.264 would get you an hour maybe more. h.265/hvec would be better again. 4GB is plenty if you have the right encoding technology.

      comment.

  • How about this one? $10 more and got it as an action cam too!

    • A neat feature of this kind of dashcam (and the A118C) is that it's discrete and looks OEM. Bogans won't be as tempted to smash your window and steal it.

  • any comments on the image quality? tempted to grab one for the run about.

  • Like the cable hidden in the mount trapezoid.

Headlight reminder is probably to remind people to turn off their lights, wish it was the other way around to remind some knobheads to turn them on at night.

    • +1

      lol, good one.

    • Needs high beam (off) reminder too!

  • How is image quality?

    • I have the generic A118C-B40 version and picture quality is ok for daytime. Depending on how good the light of the day, you can see the plates. But night time, you can't see the plates. I use this cam for the rear while the front i have a Viofo A119S V2. I'd say spend more if you want decent pic quality to catch hit & run drivers (which i did)

  • +3

I had another gator cam from JB. Picture quality was good for 1080p but sadly the plastics were cheap and melted in the Victorian Sun

    • What? That's terrible quality. Did you manage to get any warranty replacement or refund?

      • Nah I think it happened after warranty had expired.

    • Oh wow! I hope my generic A118C B40 version would survive a NSW summer. I am worried now.
