Wow, great specs for the price, just swap out the HDD for SSD and you are good to go!

    • +7

I can vouch for this little beast. Light, powerful, small for a 15.6 inch, beautiful screen, last for more than 7-8 hours normal use, fast boot up with SSD.

Can't find anything bad except the US power adaptor, have to carry one extra US to AU converter which is very inconvenience.

      • +1

What about the SSD+HDD option? Does that mean that you can alos add an ssd later on top of the HDD? For the extra $90 may be worth just getting this option at the beginning, no?

        • +2

Yes, you can add an extra M.2 SSD later. As a true ozbargainer, I would wait for a bargained M.2 SSD SATA3 and 8G DDR4 RAM to show up here.

          @Cheap Charlie:

          M.2 is here and empty
          M.2 Slot

        • @jpl: unfortunately, the M.2 port is only SATA, not NVMe. For my use scenario, this is the ONLY compromise of this laptop.

        • @thedriver:

Will be a bit of challenge to find NVMe in a budget laptop like this.

      • Hi
May I ask how big is the screen size actually? Is it 15.6 inches size?
        Thanks

        • Yes, 15.6" full-HD

        • add to @Make it so's reply,

it is 15.6" LCD inside a 14" frame. So the bezel is very very narrow.

        • +2

@jpl: I've been looking for a 14'laptop for a little while. Is this a true 14'with an extra wide screen or does it just feel like one? I'm a little concerned I'm going to order one and end up recieving a slightly slimmer 15.6'laptop.

        • +2

          @Kubric:

Screen size is the diagonal measurement of the actual display, nothing else. You can't have an extra wide 14" display because it wouldn't be 14" anymore (or it would be shorter as well)

Its a 15.6" display, however due to the slim bezels it's roughly the size of a laptop with a 14" display.

      • +2

Does the charging adaptor use a standard IEC C7 or C13 interface? If so, you can simply swap out the power cable (i.e. the cable that plugs into the wall plate) to avoid carrying around a US to AU converter.

        • +2

No, the charger is part of the wall wart section. You can buy an australian charger for $20-25 aud for this model, or you can buy a cheap ($1-2) universal->AU plug.

        • -2

          @aong152:

          Or a free option,
Use a plier and bend those plug pins tilted to fit into the wall socket.

        • +1

          @lovepub:
          Yes and no.
If the plastic isn't pliable enough then the plastic could crack and make you sad person.

In addition, US and CHina Prongs are 1.3mm, AU are 1.4mm. That means even if you bend them they can still be a bit "loose" in the wall socket.

        • @aong152:

Not really. Works every time, even if it's at your own risk

        • +1

@aong152: hi mate, do you have a link to the $25 charger for au? Cheers

    • +1

      Its $479usd + $21.88usd shipping for me.
      So $500.88usd delivered.

I was the previous bargain poster and it cost me $532usd.

  • +1

It says “Computer Memory Type DDR3 SDRAM” in product specifications on the amazon website.

    • +1

I can confirm it is DDR4.

      • +1

My bad, thanks for clearing that up.

  • $ use it

  • Anyone knows whether it takes an M.2 SSD or not?

    • Looks like their is only one M.2 which is already populated with the wifi card.

    • +2

Yes, one M.2 SSD SATA3 slot empty by default.

    • +4

Yes, Make sure to buy screws from ebay also when you buy ssd as mine M.2 WD didn't come with screws.

    • +3

      m.2. 2280 SATA3 only. Not NVME.

My model didn't have a screw so i had to go find one. I suggest you buy a copule off ebay ($1-2) at the same time as the laptop just in case.

  • is a tax invoice included with purchase?

    • +3

This is considered import. Come with Amazon Invoice, not Australian GST invoice.

    • +2

If you need the amount in the invoice to state AUD, pay in AUD (more expensive than paying in USD and using local credit card to exchange $)

However it is not an Australian Tax invoice, it is just an Amazon invoice.

      • Can I claim this as a work related item even if it was bought from USA?

  • A little off topic, specs are good and the price is great but i am in the market for a laptop with a full keyboard (including numeric keypad).
    Any suggestions please?

    • +1

Nearly every 15.6" sized laptop comes with numeric keyboard, this is one of the few exceptions because of the smaller form factor.

    • +1

      Dell Inspiron 15

      • I looked at that but seems only the gaming version comes with the num keypad. Am i correct?

        • +1

Yes, put a watch on Dell outlet website, the gaming version is now getting very cheap.

        • @jpl: Thanks for response.
Regarding "put a watch" is there a way to have a reminder/email function or i have to keep checking it regularly?

        • +2

        • @jpl:
Thanks a lot. Have put a watch. Much appreciated.

        • Incorrect: "only the gaming version comes with the num keypad". Most if not all Inspiron 15 have numpad.

    • Lenovo P50s / P51s

  • Great specs, and the reviews aren't bad considering the price. Wish it had charging via USB-C though.

    • i'm confused how many type-Cs are out there

      type C gen 1 ???
      type C gen 2 ???
      type C thunderbolt ????
      USB 3.1 ?????

      • +1

It's called USB for a reason

  • +25

I am using this laptop right now. As you can see, the letters I am typing are extra crisp and were typed at high speed. Comes to show how good this laptop is.

It takes a SATA 3 M.2 SSD. I am using a Samsung EVO 850 250GB, and it seriously flies. With the normal HDD it was quite slow. I used Macrium Reflect (free) to clone from the HDD to the SSD, which worked great. There really is no need for a whole clean install IMO, because it does not have unnecessary bloatware that slows it down.

It is very light, the screen is great, and the keyboard is fine too. Fingerprint sensor is convenient and fast. Opening it up is a pain, but instructions are in the reviews on Amazon. My M.2 did not come with a screw, so I had to use one from the casing (still holds together).

    • Clean install will not be as fast a the OEM image for a reason that I cannot and don't have time to find out.

      • Macrium Reflect killed my bootup for some reason, so i had to do a clean install.
It still only shows win10 logo for a fraction of a second. (On a Samsung 840 Evo 128GB m.2)

      • +1

I did a clean install because I couldn't clone the drive for reasons, but I don't see any performance issues.

The only way I think you could screw up a clean install is to install the OS in BIOS mode instead of UEFI, which would negate UEFI fast boot (but even then its a difference of seconds on startup).

        • +2

The OEM image has a lot of optimisation that the clean install is not aware of. This image was tuned specifically for this laptop thus providing much faster boot.

I have a XPS12 also the same behaviour, OEM image boots in 6 secs but clean install took 12 secs.

    • Dude, does this super laptop run all or most of the games?
Like fortnite , wow, etc etc

      • +1

It will run casual games, but you're looking for something with a graphics card for any mildly intensive games.

So Fortnight and WoW is fine, but forget GTA5. Expect to pay atleast 400 more if you wanna play AAA games.

      • Sorry, I don't do gaming. It's fine for Photoshop though.

    • Need help. I tried cloning the HDD to SSD using Macrium Reflect and before letting the machine reboot, went into the bios to change boot order to SSD first. However, when the system boots, I can hear the HDD clicking away while the screen turns black with only the mouse cursor and a spinning circle next to it for a long long time. Just wondering if you disconnect the HDD after the cloning for the first boot into the SSD? Or is there a way to fix the boot partition without having to disconnect the HDD?

      • I did not disconnect the hard drive. Didn't have to.
Are you sure you set the correct drive as the boot drive? Are you also sure you cloned it correctly? I cloned across all 4 partition, but resized the largest one in Macrium before dragging it across to the destination (if I recall correctly).

Is it possible that your machine is running updates? Because mine did the first half of a major windows update just before I cloned it (which was annoying), and then completed updates from the cloned drive.

        • I made sure all updates were completed before cloning mine. In terms of cloning, I dropped the 2nd partition which is just empty space and resized (i.e. shrink ed) the 3rd to match available space in the SSD. I did it a 2nd time and am now able to boot into it (Windows confirm the boot partition is now on the SSD). However, it still feels sluggish and I can still hear the HDD clicking away every time I perform some action (e.g. opening the control panel). Tempted to blow the HDD partitions away to see if that helps but concerned that the files are still linked in some way!

I've done HDD to SSD migration before (although it's been a year or two now) but never had so much trouble :(

        • @bfg100k: My advice is to never remove any partition until things work. Change as little as possible in one go. In the Windows disk manager you should be able to see in the "status" field on top whether your SSD partition has "Boot" at the beginning.

It is possible your computer is still installing updates, as it will have missed more than one major Windows update. Go into Windows update and see what it is doing. Also check your disk activity (right-click on task bar to bring up task manager, go into "performance" and see whether your disk is doing things).

Ensure Windows is not including the second drive as part of its restore point. If your computer is running fine, then wipe that drive to be sure.

My cloning went fine, but installation from the flash drive did not go fine, because apparently as long as any incompatible volume is plugged in (in this case the 'original' HDD), it would not let me install on any other volume. Silly Windows installation bug.

        • @bfg100k:

Try take out or disconnect the hdd and see if it boots.

As far as i know, all the partitions are required.

        • @Make it so: Interesting - went into settings -> manage storage -> free up space and selected to remove everything (including the previous Windows version) and things seem to more responsive after (less hdd clicking noises as well). Still don't understand why that is so but happy to have a quieter and faster laptop finally

        • @bfg100k: That's good. Yes, by default it keeps the old Windows. Maybe it was running out of space?
Another recommendation: tell Windows not to use your HDD for virtual memory or the hybernation file. Only let it use your SSD.

  • I'm never touching an Asus ever again after the last laptop I bought. It took them over 4 months to even get it properly sorted and kept sending it back unrepaired. Worst customer experience I've ever had and the laptop quality was absolute garbage. It's cheap but I'd avoid at all costs.

    • Their graphics cards are superb but yes my experiences with asus laptop and peripherals have been very bad.
I'm still running an Asus GTX760 and it works like a (profanity) charm…other than the fact that it sucks dick.

    • That sucks. I've heard the customer support is terrible, but i've never had to deal with them. I can say that my Zenbook has been working perfectly for 2 years now and the quality is great.

  • Can I use an SD card in this?

    • Yes, refer the IO in the 3rd picture on the advert

    • Yes, however the SD Card sticks out so you can't leave it in all day.

  • No dedicated graphics card?

    • +9

For this price point it will be very hard to find a laptop with a dedicated card that isn't shit.

  • How much to these retail for in the shops?

    • Quick Google search will help you find the answer. Cheers

    • +1

Not in Australia retail I believe. But I can be sure that this is the cheapest for similar specs.

      • OP please add the shipping cost to the Title

    • +2

In Australia, expect to pay $1200-1300 aud.

    • From eBay -
      https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p238005…
      AU$1355 from AUS based seller
Starting from US$559.99 plus delivery - US based sellers

  • If I had the money, oh man, I would jump all over this. Awesome deal.

  • +1

Comes up to ~$700 for Melbourne South Easter Suburb.
Would grab if this is local stock

    • +1

      blame the weak AUD :-)

      • Comes up to ~$700

        That’s included shipping

  • Touchscreen?

    • +1

Nope. The screen is non reflective matte finish.

  • +1

    Interesting…

This vs the Acer from Bing Lee?

    • If you want a good screen, go for the ASUS. If you want local support go for the ACER.

      • I has bas experiences with Acer twice. So I would avoid the brand.

  • Any advice on which to buy? Looking for a portable 14'laptop with decent specs (for future-proofing). I do a little light gaming (no major AAA titles bar Total War series maybe) and some light video editing.

I had the Acer Swift 3 on order from Amazon as it's got the same specs but with a 256gb SSD and MX150 graphics, but its priced at $700 USD. Is the integrated graphics and the included SSD worth the extra $200ish AUD I'll spend on it compared to buying this and a 250gb SSD?

    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-8250U-NVIDIA-GeForce-SF314-52…

    • Depends how portable you mean.
I'd honestly consider buying a used Mac Air if I was you…I'll probably get downvoted like (profanity) for saying this but I think for portability nothing beats the mac airs.

      • +1

        Mac air 11" has T H I C C bezels.
        Mac air 13" has T H I C C bezels too.

modern 13" laptops have thinner bezels and are hence the same physical size as a Mac air 11", but with a larger screen.

Mac air is really not a worthy bargain unless used, but then you could get those modern 13" laptops used too….

        e.g. used 13" mac air = $920 for 2014 model.
used Dell XPS 13 (2016 ish) is $850

The xps will be newer and probably have better specs, for the same price point…

        • Yeah I got an 11' 2013 one I bought for 350 a few days back and the bezels are pretty bad and make the screen look even smaller than it already is Lol. However I honestly love it to bits so far. Performs smooth as butter but that's probaby mac os optimization since it's got shit specs.
Just depends on if you can get a good deal tbh - speaking of which, was mine a good deal? I'm not a mac expert by any means so I don't know if I got a good deal or not but 350 dropped off to my house with a charger sounds alright.
So far the best thing I love about this little thing is the battery (considering the tiny size it's amazing) and the trackpad. 4GB ram is a huge problem and the only one I have with it. I'd never buy a new macbook though (profanity) that. Apple support is useless anyway so may as well save yourself the money and buy used.

      • +1

Not really a Mac person unfortunately. I feel like they're always overpriced compared to what you get in a similarly spec'd windows machine. I don't need outrageous portability either, just enough to move it from the bed to couch etc while watching Netflix or taking it to uni.

        • +1

I guess, it's good if you can find a good deal on a used one. I had an old white 2010 macbook in early 2017 and it was still kicking 7 years later, say what you want but they do age well.

        • Not to mention from what I hear apple charges you half the price of your device just to get a simple thing fixed so there's no reason not to buy used IMO.

        • You probably stick to macbook if you want to use Apple's Final Cut Pro.

        • @cloudie9: It's just so well optimized it's insane. Want to hook it up to my monitor and make some CS fragmovies except that I know nothing about mac os or final cut or editing for that matter.

    • +1

But out of those two I'd kinda stick with the higher spec one if I have the money. Just depends on what you want to do.

    • Isn't the Total War series quite demanding?

    • Ignoring the fact that's it's an acer swift, yes, it's worth it.

First off, you're going to be paying atleast 120 bucks for a m.2 250gb. You can get a bargain and get it for maybe 10-20 bucks off, but goodluck since m.2 takes forever to get discounts.

So that puts 130 bucks for form factor and GPU, which are probably better suited for you than a 15.6 inch and slower video rendering times.

If you managed to dilly dally around long enough for the mibook air MX150 to be on discount, I would get that instead. I loved the first version, one of the best laptops I've used even when compared to 13.3 XPS series.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm which screen tech comes with this? Tried looking finding info but Amazon is silent with this. Is this IPS?

  • I suppose no backlit keyboard or warranty.

    • +1

No backlit keyboard, but warranty is at 1 year "international warranty". No reports on claiming this model yet, but i recall previous Amazon Asus laptops being claimed successfully.

  • Remember the charger power adapter plug would be US

    • Does it need a Power Converter? or will a US to AUS Adapter be sufficient?

      • Attached videos on amazon display multi voltage. Only adaptor required.

  • is this a 14" laptop or is it a 15" laptop

    • 15.6

    • +1

I've been trying to figure this out and it appears it's a 15.6"laptop but with the actual body size of a 14"laptop. If you look at the actual dimensions in comparison to an actual 14"laptop (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-8250U-NVIDIA-GeForce-SF314-52…) you'll see the dimensions are only a tiny bit larger for the Asus than the Acer. It makes up for it with smaller bezels around the screen. They're fitting a bigger screen onto the same size lid basically.

      • I dont understand how you can say the screen is 15" but the body is 14"…..

        • The 15.6" refers to the diagonal length

        • +1

Pre 2015, bezels were around 19mm on all sides.

Nowadays budget laptops will still have a bezel of around 1cm.

          • a 15" diagonal screen with 1cm border = 16" diagonal for the laptop.
          • a 14" diagonal screen with 1cm border = 15" diagonal for the laptop.

Now if you removed the bezel entirely,

15" diagonal screen = 15" diagonal for the laptop (e.g. XPS 15 series).

The phrase 15" screen in a 14" body really means:

15" screen in the body of a laptop with a 14" screen and 1" bezel.
          NOT:
15" diagonal screen inside a 14" diagonal laptop (because that would obviously be impossible…)

  • +2

come to think of it, I recently scored a 2-in-1 Surface style laptop AND a Lenovo i7-7500U laptop for combined cost of $80 less than this machine. But neither were new, even though in "as new" condition both.

either way, I still think this is a great deal here for someone who only wants shiny new toys. I mean if I was me 1 year ago, I would be flipping out my credit card right now. great find, OP!

  • couple of newbie questions sorry.

Would this be good enough for some light video editing?

Also, what is the go with local warranty? Any?

    • +1

I have adobe premiere elements installed on this laptop. Obviously, I put M.2 SSD as boot drive and it can handles the light video editing without a problem.

      • I understand adding an SSD but how to make it the boot drive? Sorry for the naive question.

        • +2
          1. Add ssd after removing all screws and using a plastic guitar pic or similar to ping open the case (no knife etc as this will damage the case. Watch some online videos for help on this)
          2. Use software for direct copy of image from hdd to ssd and once finished reboot. You can use many software such as macrium or easus (I use aomei backupper with these settings: 1.clone 2. Disk clone 3.select 1tb hdd 4. From "Edit partitions on disk" change to option "fit all partitions to entire disk" 5.check "align partition to optimise ssd" 6. Start clone. Once finished you can reboot
          3. Go into bios and change boot drive settings to ssd and your done!
        • @Scotch: Thanks. Can we also use this (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073GZBT36) as an external SSD? Does it have a different config/ set up?

        • @Scotch:
Yup, i used a credit card. Start from the screen/vents side. Watch a video.

        • @aong152:

          Watch a video

can you please share a link, thanks

  • +1

I'm also looking for warranty info.
In case of return, i have to send it all back to US & also bear the shipping cost?

    Thanks.

    • I imagine so, I don't see why they would cover shipping costs from Australia.

    • Thanks for your replies.. a quick search on their amazon reviews… this product does seem to have some build quality issue with LCD & keyboard though..

Thats what put me off though.. as i've been following this since the last OZ deal ..

      • +2

I have this laptop and the keyboard on my machine has a bit of a dip in the middle.
It doesn't really effect the performance of my one finger typing. Overall the build quality
is pretty good and the performance for the price is awesome. Xiaomi power board takes care of the charger.

  • +2

Such great specs for price.. If only it came with backlit Keyboard, I would happily pay bit extra just for that. But a great deal regardless.

    • +2

What's so special about backlit keyboard?
Don't everyone use their computer under lit up rooms? Except for the times you need to search up for some adult action movies in the dark

      • Don't get it myself too. Hundred percent of the time I'm staring at screen not the keyboard

        • I guess it just helps when you want to feel like a vampire or a rogue in the shadows.. I just personally sometimes hate the light.. inner vampire in me coming out

Awesome deal, I recently paid $539 USD including shipping for this laptop.

  • Can anyone say if this would be faster than a Surface Pro 1 (original)? Currently still using it but really would like a bigger screen, keyboard etc.

    • +1

This is faster than Surface Pro 1.
      http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/860/Intel_Core_i5_Mobile_i5…

But if you are used to Surface Pro's advantage like portable, touch screen and pen, this is not suitable.

      • Thanks. I actually cracked the screen (doh!) a few years ago and had to disable the touch feature to keep it usable, so sadly touch, pen and tablet mode aren't something I've really utilised.

  • Thanks OP, I really didnt want to spend any money but need a new laptop since the one I am using is back from 2008 (still going strong though gets a bit slow)

    • Same boat. 2009 laptop’s graphics card fried, so using a 2007 xps m1330. Still works, don’t want to spend money, but tempting…

      • Wowzer, that is good going! I still have one at my dad's house. Is it still working pretty good? What do you do on it?
Curious how a c2d holds up today

        • Running Centrino 2 lol. I replaced the HD with SSD, and running 8GB memory. To be honest its OK for most business type applications. However browsing reddit GIFs for example slows it down a bit and some gifs dont render well in the browser and have to download them and view them using a video player. Also streaming anything or watching youtube puts the CPU at 100% or close to it.

Its also a heavy laptop, no HDMI, battery life is average (may be 90 Mins) if I am lucky. Screen resolution is 1440x900 so not great. Also can run older style games from GOG and can run something like Civ V but cant even run Hearthstone on it because of a video driver issue I assume.

Overall all does an OK job but I do want a new one, better battery life, better brighter screen, lighter laptop and backlit keyboard.

  • Would this run dual monitors relatively easy? Just Looking for something for general use that I could interchange with my work set up.

Might play some dota now and again.

    • +1

It's only got one HDMI out.

If you mean laptop screen + external monitor, yes it will work.
If you mean laptop screen + 2x external monitor, nope.

      • I would have thought you can use USB C port for another Display? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

        • Good catch!

It hasn't been confirmed by anyone. Remember USB-C is just a port. I'm not saying it won't work, but i'd be prudent and assume that it doesn't until proven otherwise

Whether it can carry HDMI over it is up to the individual laptop.

USB-C -> HDMI cables are pretty expensive, so i doubt many people would have tried it yet. Googling didn't present anything fruitful.

For those that want to install a 256GB M.2 SSD for booting, try this for around 91$ AU delivered from local company.

Or you can pick up for $75 if you are close to store located in Campbellfield, Vic.

  • would of bought if had touch screen

  • -2

Doesnt appear to be an IPS panel in the screen, id be quite concerned about the quality of the screen, maybe some people dont care but it should be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

    • This is definitely an IPS, and so much better than my Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming's IPS.

  • Hi OP, do you have any recommendations for 13 inches laptops? Thank you

  • just bought even though only has integrated graphics card

  • Does this have MU-MIMO Wifi?

  • should I purchase https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/378562 to upgrate this laptop?

    • No. You need SATA3 M.2

      • +2

        Thanks.
Asus support has informed that this laptops is compatible with the following drive types

        Hard Drives:
        500GB 5400RPM SATA HDD
        1TB 5400RPM SATA HDD
        2TB 5400RPM SATA HDD
        Solid State Drives:
        128GB SATA3 M.2 SSD
        Solid State Drives:
        256GB SATA3 M.2 SSD
        Solid State Drives:
        512GB SATA3 M.2 SSD

In other words, the SSD slot is SATA3 based, not NVMe

  • Thanks OP, would this laptop be suitable for some light gaming like Civ V?

    • I am not sure about this sorry. The CPU i5-8250U is almost on par with my son's gaming inspiron i5-7300HQ. But this laptop does not have GPU.

  • Can this dota 2 on obviously low settings or csgo, anyone tried?

Considering getting this laptop now as a travel companion lol

  • ffs i bought this LOL

  • Anyone know what stick of ram is inside? I want to get another 8gig stick to make it 16gb ram, I'll probably just buy a 16gb kit and replace the stick that's in there

    Crucial Ram

    • Sodimm ddr4 2400 be fine. Currently 2xslots. 1x 8gb occupied presently. You could add another 8gb or just buy 2x16gb and sell of the 8.

      • Yeah I just want to know the stick that's already installed if it's the same for every machine, but I'm just likely going to replace with crucial sticks anyway

        • No need to replace the existing stick with another one, it'll be just as good.

    • 1 x Samsung 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400MHz, 260 PIN SODIMM, CL 17, 1.2V

  • Anyone know if this would be suitable for light AutoCAD / Revit work?

  • For those that are upgrading this to SSD, what are you doing with the 1TB HDD? Selling?

Also anyone who's already ordered this and received it - can you share how long it took for you to receive it?

    • +2

I left the HDD inside as data drive. My order took 12 days to arrive in Sydney.

  • anyone know if i can add a 16GB sodimm together with existing 8GB?

  • Hi, I have 4 questions:

    1. Does this come with international warranty? How long is it? (sorry i couldn't find it on the website)
    2. If so, does installing SSD by myself nullify warranty?
    3. Is it hard installing SSD? Like using guitar pick and all.. (I've never done it before + I'm not a techie) What's the chance that I'll break it?
    4. How bad is the keyboard flex? (Review said it did..) I'm using Thinkpad currently, if the keyboard is as good as Thinkpad i'll be very happy, but if you have bought this laptop, is the keyboard flex bad?

    Thank you very much..

  • I ordered one @ $539 USD and it just arrived in Melbourne. However I changed my mind. If any of you wants one at the discounted price above, you can buy it from me or I will return it to Amazon. Please PM if interested.

    • Hey there, i'm interested in that Asus, was thinking of logistics of buying/delivery and saw your post. Where about are you in Melbourne ? I'm stopping by Melbourne (western surburb) in two weeks. If you are close by maybe we could make a deal ?

PS ( i'm oversea atm, so cannot use private message :(

      • I am based in Melbourne CBD.

    • Could I ask why you changed your mind? Just wondering if I made a mistake ordering this recently. Did you find a better deal on something else or just don't want it?

      • +1

The laptop is fine, I just don't like the 15.6 size. Feels like it is not portable enough for me to carry around everyday. If it is just home use, then you will be fine.

        • Thanks for the reply! Oh no I may have the same regret lol. I bought it for everyday to travel with me x_x we shall seeee maybe I will get a big backpack

  • So… has anyone had theirs shipped yet?

    • +1

Mine was at Melbourne, VIC AU for customs this morning. Now it's in Botany, NSW lol.

      • Received the tracking advice today - thanks guys.

        • Ordered mine last Sunday it came on Friday! 5 business days! Amazon AU took 3.5 weeks to ship me something last time I used them, weird.

    • +1

Mine arrived on Tuesday 29/05, northern suburbs, Melbourne

  • What sort of battery life are people getting on this? Review says 5-6 hours, but it doesn't specify if that's with wi-fi on or off. Of course, 5-6 hours now, would be only 3-4 hours in a year's time.

    • +1

I get about 8 hours using "Better battery" mode, browsing with Chrome, Firefox, normal Ms Office application.

Mine Arrived Friday 1/6 (Adelaide). Pretty Happy with it. Remember folks, if you plan to upgrade this unit with SSD or Memory, after unscrewing all the screws including the two under the rear rubber feet, then use a credit card to pry open the underside by starting along the back near the screen. Use your finger nails in the centre to first unclip the bottom plastic cover, then use a credit card in that small opening and move it along the whole back part - they will all unclip and the bottom pulls off easily. It was much easier than I anticipated. The hardest part was not marking the case with a screwdriver when trying to remove the rubber feet as they are stuck on pretty tight. Good Luck!

    • A Chinese takeaway chopstick sliced to the shape of flat screwdriver does the job really well in removing the rubber feet.

  • Sorry for commenting on expired deal but the price hasn't changed much and I'm thinking about buying one. I stop following IT a long time ago and I'm a bit confused.
This laptop comes with a 1TB hard drive and also SSD slot. Can you actually replace the 1TB hard drive with SAMSUNG EVO 850 or am I completely wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

    • You’re able to put m2 ssd card in the spare slot and also replace 1tb hard drive too.

      • Would I be able to use Samsung EVO 850 in the slot where the 1TB is? The reason I'm asking is that I've recently bought one for my current laptop which just died and it would be much easier/cheaper if I can use it for this Asus laptop. I don't need two hard drives at all

        • +1

Yes as long as it’s 2.5 inch SSD

        • sweet. Thanks a lot for your help.

    • Did you end up making the purchase Ritchma? I'm also tempted

Hello is it worth paying the extra money for the 1TB+128SSD OR is it cheaper to get an SSD later and install it yourself?

I really like the fact that it's a 15.4 in a 14 body as I find the regular 15s are too big. To those who have this is it as good as advertised?

It's currently $509.99USD which is not much more than this deal.

    Thanks!

    • +1

You should compare the measurements as the difference between this and a 15.4 is minimal.
The difference in width between this and my 15.4 Sony Vaio is 10mm.
The major difference is the weight.

    • I got the 1TB+128SSD version as I'm lazy. It arrived yesterday and works great!

  • +3

received the laptop one week ago, it was pretty slow, actually it is a understatement, it is unbearable slow and hang. Until yesterday, I got the new SSD, remove the back cover is bit difficult, but once it is done, clone the disk and reboot. The feeling is 10 times faster, absolutely love it, probably the best value laptop ever buy, total cost $680 + 108 (240G ssd) = $788, it is better than most of the $1000 laptop.

    • The included HDD is actually surprisingly bad. Boot up times for me ranged from 30 sec - a minute to get into the login screen. SSD upgrade is definitely a must for this little beast.

  • Wow that's good feedback guys. I missed out on the last deal so I'm patiently waiting for it to go on sale again, there seems to be once every month
