I can vouch for this little beast. Light, powerful, small for a 15.6 inch, beautiful screen, last for more than 7-8 hours normal use, fast boot up with SSD.
Can't find anything bad except the US power adaptor, have to carry one extra US to AU converter which is very inconvenience.

Yes, you can add an extra M.2 SSD later. As a true ozbargainer, I would wait for a bargained M.2 SSD SATA3 and 8G DDR4 RAM to show up here.
@jpl: unfortunately, the M.2 port is only SATA, not NVMe. For my use scenario, this is the ONLY compromise of this laptop.

Screen size is the diagonal measurement of the actual display, nothing else. You can't have an extra wide 14" display because it wouldn't be 14" anymore (or it would be shorter as well)

No, the charger is part of the wall wart section. You can buy an australian charger for $20-25 aud for this model, or you can buy a cheap ($1-2) universal->AU plug.

If the plastic isn't pliable enough then the plastic could crack and make you sad person.
In addition, US and CHina Prongs are 1.3mm, AU are 1.4mm. That means even if you bend them they can still be a bit "loose" in the wall socket.

Nearly every 15.6" sized laptop comes with numeric keyboard, this is one of the few exceptions because of the smaller form factor.

I am using this laptop right now. As you can see, the letters I am typing are extra crisp and were typed at high speed. Comes to show how good this laptop is.
It takes a SATA 3 M.2 SSD. I am using a Samsung EVO 850 250GB, and it seriously flies. With the normal HDD it was quite slow. I used Macrium Reflect (free) to clone from the HDD to the SSD, which worked great. There really is no need for a whole clean install IMO, because it does not have unnecessary bloatware that slows it down.
It is very light, the screen is great, and the keyboard is fine too. Fingerprint sensor is convenient and fast. Opening it up is a pain, but instructions are in the reviews on Amazon. My M.2 did not come with a screw, so I had to use one from the casing (still holds together).
Clean install will not be as fast a the OEM image for a reason that I cannot and don't have time to find out.
Macrium Reflect killed my bootup for some reason, so i had to do a clean install.
It still only shows win10 logo for a fraction of a second. (On a Samsung 840 Evo 128GB m.2)
I did a clean install because I couldn't clone the drive for reasons, but I don't see any performance issues.
The only way I think you could screw up a clean install is to install the OS in BIOS mode instead of UEFI, which would negate UEFI fast boot (but even then its a difference of seconds on startup).
The OEM image has a lot of optimisation that the clean install is not aware of. This image was tuned specifically for this laptop thus providing much faster boot.
I have a XPS12 also the same behaviour, OEM image boots in 6 secs but clean install took 12 secs.

So Fortnight and WoW is fine, but forget GTA5. Expect to pay atleast 400 more if you wanna play AAA games.

Need help. I tried cloning the HDD to SSD using Macrium Reflect and before letting the machine reboot, went into the bios to change boot order to SSD first. However, when the system boots, I can hear the HDD clicking away while the screen turns black with only the mouse cursor and a spinning circle next to it for a long long time. Just wondering if you disconnect the HDD after the cloning for the first boot into the SSD? Or is there a way to fix the boot partition without having to disconnect the HDD?
I did not disconnect the hard drive. Didn't have to.
Are you sure you set the correct drive as the boot drive? Are you also sure you cloned it correctly? I cloned across all 4 partition, but resized the largest one in Macrium before dragging it across to the destination (if I recall correctly).
Is it possible that your machine is running updates? Because mine did the first half of a major windows update just before I cloned it (which was annoying), and then completed updates from the cloned drive.
I made sure all updates were completed before cloning mine. In terms of cloning, I dropped the 2nd partition which is just empty space and resized (i.e. shrink ed) the 3rd to match available space in the SSD. I did it a 2nd time and am now able to boot into it (Windows confirm the boot partition is now on the SSD). However, it still feels sluggish and I can still hear the HDD clicking away every time I perform some action (e.g. opening the control panel). Tempted to blow the HDD partitions away to see if that helps but concerned that the files are still linked in some way!
I've done HDD to SSD migration before (although it's been a year or two now) but never had so much trouble :(
@bfg100k: My advice is to never remove any partition until things work. Change as little as possible in one go. In the Windows disk manager you should be able to see in the "status" field on top whether your SSD partition has "Boot" at the beginning.
It is possible your computer is still installing updates, as it will have missed more than one major Windows update. Go into Windows update and see what it is doing. Also check your disk activity (right-click on task bar to bring up task manager, go into "performance" and see whether your disk is doing things).
Ensure Windows is not including the second drive as part of its restore point. If your computer is running fine, then wipe that drive to be sure.
My cloning went fine, but installation from the flash drive did not go fine, because apparently as long as any incompatible volume is plugged in (in this case the 'original' HDD), it would not let me install on any other volume. Silly Windows installation bug.
Try take out or disconnect the hdd and see if it boots.
As far as i know, all the partitions are required.
@Make it so: Interesting - went into settings -> manage storage -> free up space and selected to remove everything (including the previous Windows version) and things seem to more responsive after (less hdd clicking noises as well). Still don't understand why that is so but happy to have a quieter and faster laptop finally

Another recommendation: tell Windows not to use your HDD for virtual memory or the hybernation file. Only let it use your SSD.
I'm never touching an Asus ever again after the last laptop I bought. It took them over 4 months to even get it properly sorted and kept sending it back unrepaired. Worst customer experience I've ever had and the laptop quality was absolute garbage. It's cheap but I'd avoid at all costs.
Their graphics cards are superb but yes my experiences with asus laptop and peripherals have been very bad.

Yeah I got an 11' 2013 one I bought for 350 a few days back and the bezels are pretty bad and make the screen look even smaller than it already is Lol. However I honestly love it to bits so far. Performs smooth as butter but that's probaby mac os optimization since it's got shit specs.
Just depends on if you can get a good deal tbh - speaking of which, was mine a good deal? I'm not a mac expert by any means so I don't know if I got a good deal or not but 350 dropped off to my house with a charger sounds alright.
So far the best thing I love about this little thing is the battery (considering the tiny size it's amazing) and the trackpad. 4GB ram is a huge problem and the only one I have with it. I'd never buy a new macbook though (profanity) that. Apple support is useless anyway so may as well save yourself the money and buy used.
Not really a Mac person unfortunately. I feel like they're always overpriced compared to what you get in a similarly spec'd windows machine. I don't need outrageous portability either, just enough to move it from the bed to couch etc while watching Netflix or taking it to uni.
I guess, it's good if you can find a good deal on a used one. I had an old white 2010 macbook in early 2017 and it was still kicking 7 years later, say what you want but they do age well.
Not to mention from what I hear apple charges you half the price of your device just to get a simple thing fixed so there's no reason not to buy used IMO.
You probably stick to macbook if you want to use Apple's Final Cut Pro.

Ignoring the fact that's it's an acer swift, yes, it's worth it.
First off, you're going to be paying atleast 120 bucks for a m.2 250gb. You can get a bargain and get it for maybe 10-20 bucks off, but goodluck since m.2 takes forever to get discounts.
So that puts 130 bucks for form factor and GPU, which are probably better suited for you than a 15.6 inch and slower video rendering times.
If you managed to dilly dally around long enough for the mibook air MX150 to be on discount, I would get that instead. I loved the first version, one of the best laptops I've used even when compared to 13.3 XPS series.

I've been trying to figure this out and it appears it's a 15.6"laptop but with the actual body size of a 14"laptop. If you look at the actual dimensions in comparison to an actual 14"laptop (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-8250U-NVIDIA-GeForce-SF314-52…) you'll see the dimensions are only a tiny bit larger for the Asus than the Acer. It makes up for it with smaller bezels around the screen. They're fitting a bigger screen onto the same size lid basically.

Pre 2015, bezels were around 19mm on all sides.
Nowadays budget laptops will still have a bezel of around 1cm.
Now if you removed the bezel entirely,
15" diagonal screen = 15" diagonal for the laptop (e.g. XPS 15 series).
The phrase 15" screen in a 14" body really means:
15" screen in the body of a laptop with a 14" screen and 1" bezel.
NOT:
15" diagonal screen inside a 14" diagonal laptop (because that would obviously be impossible…)

I have this laptop and the keyboard on my machine has a bit of a dip in the middle.
It doesn't really effect the performance of my one finger typing. Overall the build quality
is pretty good and the performance for the price is awesome. Xiaomi power board takes care of the charger.
Such great specs for price.. If only it came with backlit Keyboard, I would happily pay bit extra just for that. But a great deal regardless.

Thanks. I actually cracked the screen (doh!) a few years ago and had to disable the touch feature to keep it usable, so sadly touch, pen and tablet mode aren't something I've really utilised.

Running Centrino 2 lol. I replaced the HD with SSD, and running 8GB memory. To be honest its OK for most business type applications. However browsing reddit GIFs for example slows it down a bit and some gifs dont render well in the browser and have to download them and view them using a video player. Also streaming anything or watching youtube puts the CPU at 100% or close to it.
Its also a heavy laptop, no HDMI, battery life is average (may be 90 Mins) if I am lucky. Screen resolution is 1440x900 so not great. Also can run older style games from GOG and can run something like Civ V but cant even run Hearthstone on it because of a video driver issue I assume.
Overall all does an OK job but I do want a new one, better battery life, better brighter screen, lighter laptop and backlit keyboard.
Would this run dual monitors relatively easy? Just Looking for something for general use that I could interchange with my work set up.
Might play some dota now and again.

Doesnt appear to be an IPS panel in the screen, id be quite concerned about the quality of the screen, maybe some people dont care but it should be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

What sort of battery life are people getting on this? Review says 5-6 hours, but it doesn't specify if that's with wi-fi on or off. Of course, 5-6 hours now, would be only 3-4 hours in a year's time.
I get about 8 hours using "Better battery" mode, browsing with Chrome, Firefox, normal Ms Office application.
Mine Arrived Friday 1/6 (Adelaide). Pretty Happy with it. Remember folks, if you plan to upgrade this unit with SSD or Memory, after unscrewing all the screws including the two under the rear rubber feet, then use a credit card to pry open the underside by starting along the back near the screen. Use your finger nails in the centre to first unclip the bottom plastic cover, then use a credit card in that small opening and move it along the whole back part - they will all unclip and the bottom pulls off easily. It was much easier than I anticipated. The hardest part was not marking the case with a screwdriver when trying to remove the rubber feet as they are stuck on pretty tight. Good Luck!
A Chinese takeaway chopstick sliced to the shape of flat screwdriver does the job really well in removing the rubber feet.

This laptop comes with a 1TB hard drive and also SSD slot. Can you actually replace the 1TB hard drive with SAMSUNG EVO 850 or am I completely wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

I really like the fact that it's a 15.4 in a 14 body as I find the regular 15s are too big. To those who have this is it as good as advertised?

You should compare the measurements as the difference between this and a 15.4 is minimal.
The difference in width between this and my 15.4 Sony Vaio is 10mm.
The major difference is the weight.
I got the 1TB+128SSD version as I'm lazy. It arrived yesterday and works great!
received the laptop one week ago, it was pretty slow, actually it is a understatement, it is unbearable slow and hang. Until yesterday, I got the new SSD, remove the back cover is bit difficult, but once it is done, clone the disk and reboot. The feeling is 10 times faster, absolutely love it, probably the best value laptop ever buy, total cost $680 + 108 (240G ssd) = $788, it is better than most of the $1000 laptop.
The included HDD is actually surprisingly bad. Boot up times for me ranged from 30 sec - a minute to get into the login screen. SSD upgrade is definitely a must for this little beast.
