Ultra Firm Mattress Options

I currently sleep on the floor (by choice), and am looking for a cheap mattress that would be somewhat comparable to the firmness I'm accustomed to. I've consulted Clark Rubber about getting a dense piece of foam cut, but it ends up being $300+ which I don't think is reasonable.

Are there any other options or materials that I'm not thinking of?

Very grateful for any advice.

    Yoga mat from Kmart.

Just buy a bed frame and then place sheet of chipboard where mattress is meant to go.

Imagine bringing a shiela back to that

  • I use rubber floor mats when I go camping. Stacked two or three thick.
Bit firm for me, but may suit you.

Think I got these for $4-5 a 4-pack when on special:
    Polytuf 50 x 50cm Foam Mats

Grab a Shikibuton, they're thin traditional Japanese mattresses that go directly on the floor.

  • I sleep on a 89 dollar pump up queen mattress from Kmart has built in pump and the amt of air you put in determines the firmness of the bed simples

(I do have a normal base)

  • Get a Bubba Mat for around $130 at Costco or more expensive elsewhere. Or Chinese variation for even cheaper.

  • Be a man. Sleep on the floor.

  • Base: milk crates which are free.
Matress: MDF https://www.bunnings.com.au/customwood-mdf-2440-x-1220-x-3mm… just cut to size

  • King Koil sell a really good "Extra Firm" mattress. We paid around $700 for a King about 6 years ago, its still in excellent condition, the smaller ones are cheaper. Personally I would spend a little more on a mattress, a good nights sleep is worth it.

  • I have a back injury, and aquired a very firm matress on an excellent sale. I went when they had a hugely discounted sale already (like 40% off or something) then I bought the floor model, which they gave me a large discount on top, just because the current floor model had to go, due to change in colour/style of the new 1 being sold.
    So I ended up getting like a $3500 bed&base, for about $1150 .
If you want something that is like sleeping on the floor though, for a single size, could get a massage table. That had similar firmness and support of the floor, with some comfort/padding.
Perhaps massage benches are available in larger sizes. Also, if you already have a base (or pickup free base on gumtree) then could save some $$ if you can get just the bench part of the massage table (without legs) , or even buy a massage bench with broken legs and put it onto a base.
Could even put 2 or 3 massage benches onto a queen/king bed base.
If you are handy (and could be bothered) I guess you could find out what sort of padding they use for firm massage table, and get materials and make your own would not be that hard.

    currently sleep on the floor

How long have you been married?

  • Fitness mats might suit you. At one stage, was experimenting with materials (firm ones) to sleep on, I was using this (not by itself, but with other stuff) to create a firm surface to sleep on. Can get from many places - kmart, anaconda etc. Cost about $10-$12, something like this. I experimented with one, two etc stacked to vary the firmness. It also provides great insulation from the cold.

  • Ultra-Firm hey.
I made the mistake of trying an ABCA mattress a couple of years ago.
It was way, wayyy too firm.

I see they are now offering it with a (fairly thin) pillowtop as well.

There is also the Seahorse (foam) mattress which is also very firm.
