  • what is so good about grey?

    • +1

More of a niche product so it costs more. That's about it.

    • +1

Nothing, the only difference is Joycon colour, and the Neon are far more popular.

You can buy grey joycons separately, but neon controllers are only sold separately as red left blue right, while the ones that come with the console are blue left green right, so if you want a red or blue set you need a neon console.

A bit like how the Splatoon Neon have their colour scheme reversed in different regions, so you need to import and buy locally to get a pink set and green set.

      • how much are the joycons cost?

Does the grey one come in a set?

        • RRP of $119.95, but also sold separately.

Can be bought as a pair from most places selling the Switch, such as EB Games and JB Hi-Fi.

        • +1

Eb is selling at 36 each if anyone want to grab some

        • You can get left/right for $36ea from EB: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/378058

      • +7

Are you sure neon are more popular?

It would seem that grey is more popular, hence why the price has not dropped..

        • +6

grey is far more popular. It's sold out twice last time it was on ebay sale and the neons were left over.

        • @Blitzfx:

          I wonder why?

Are the colors look crap or too bright or gets annoying in real life?

        • -4

          I'm completely certain.

Most pictures you find of the Switch Online has the neon, everyone I know with a Switch has a neon and if you google "neon grey switch regret" you'll find the majority of people who regret their choice are those who bought the grey instead of neon.

        • +3

          @pinkybrain:
I bought the grey because the neon looks childish and it doesn't match well with the main-grey on the console, or the controller, or the dock, or every single other accessory that comes with it.

It would be better if it were themed, like Zelda or Mario etc.

I can understand if some people think grey is boring, and it normally is. A neutral color.

        • +1

@pinkybrain: Not annoying at all, it looks nice and doesn't reflect.

I have 3 sets of neon and 2 sets of the Splatoon neon, they all look fantastic.

The grey look devoid of life and business like.

The reason that the grey sell out before the neon is because stores carry less stock of the grey due to the popularity of the neon.

If you ask any EB Games store employee "Do you sell more neon switch consoles/Joycon or grey" they'll definitely say neon.

        • @BradleyDS2:

Are all the consoles selling right now still hackable?

Can you put homebrew on all of them?

Interested in putting emulators on it.

        • @pinkybrain: All are currently exploitable, the exploit can only be patched with a hardware revision.

Data mining the latest updates finds that there's a hardware revision in the works, likely the only difference being that the exploit in the hardware is patched and they'll be released silently with the newer batches.

Nintendo can't fix the exploit on any consoles that are already vulnerable.

        • @BradleyDS2:

If we buy one now, can we put homebrew and emulators on it right now?

Or better to wait for CFW?

        • @BradleyDS2:

Hope they don't release a better more powerful version like how PS4 and Xbox 1 did or added features.

I heard they are also trying to fix the joycons problem with a revise version.

        • @pinkybrain: CFW is coming soon, homebrew is very much in a development stage at the moment, same as emulators.

So you can run homebrew and emulators, but it's advised that if you're a general consumer you wait until Atmosphere releases.

        • @BradleyDS2:

Cool, I got CFW on my other consoles like PSP, PS3, Wii, 3DS,

I like buying consoles especially knowing if I know they are hackable.

          Sadly PS4, XBox1 still not hacked yet…

        • +1

@pinkybrain: Nintendo is the king of hardware revisions, take a look at their past consoles, like the gameboy and 3DS.

They usually do very few revisions on home consoles though, if any, but since this is a hybrid, they might do revisions.

I also heard that, but haven't heard anything since. Nintendo also started doing repairs on joycons with the disconnect issue.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with the joycons disconnecting, I own 10 joycons and have a router in my room, so I expected to have a problem but have been happily disappointed.

        • @Blitzfx: I bought a neon console but the grey still looks nice.

        • @Diji1:
case of the grass is greener on other side?

You can buy a grey set of joycons then you got both

        • @BradleyDS2:
yeah I got a few nintendo consoles and handhelds

I seen them revise the handhelds are few times

mainly 3DS to XL (which is improvement)
but also coming out wiht some crappier version like 2D3Ds etc..

          With the Wii, Gamecube etc,
I never really saw them revise it.

With the switch it is harder to tell what will happen…
Well they are definitely revising the joycons to fix the problem
and GPU to fix the hack.

Not sure if they would make the GPU more powerful though.
I would be disappointed if they did, since if we just bought it.

Also I tend not to buy first versions, since there are know they have problems
but then also tempted cos they are more hackable.

        • @pinkybrain: Same here, CFW on my Wii, PSP, 3DS, Wii U, have a rooted android, going to put CFW on my Switch and an exploit for the firmware my Vita is running is being made public next year/end of this year since the Vita will be closer to EOL and less chance of it being patched.

        • @pinkybrain: The Wii had revisions, like the Wii Mini and the removal of gamecube ports without changing the price. Other than that, there wasn't really anything of note other than different coloured shells.

The joycons aren't going to be revised to stop the exploit, as the exploit isn't actually with the joycons, it's with shorting two connections on the Switch where the joycons are inserted. You can use a 3d printed jig with a broken micro USB connector or even a screwdriver instead, just need a piece of metal in that location shorting two specific connections.

I'm hoping they upgrade the GPU for 4k in a couple of years or so. I already have 2 switch consoles (one for modding and one for normal use, since Nintendo might ban modders like with the 3DS and I love Splatoon a lot) and if they make a revised version, my current Switch consoles will still be worth just as much to me, although I'll probably buy a revised one too :P

A good example is the New 3DS, I upgraded from an O3DS to a N3DSXL and the difference is huge, larger screen, no problem with the top screen being damaged when you close it, eye tracking for 3D and more processing power, which is great for emulators. Even with that extra power, there wasn't many N3DS exclusives, but games that were designed to take advantage of the extra power ran a lot smoother, while still being 100% playable on the older models (except Hyrule Warriors, that should have been a N3DS exclusive).

        • @BradleyDS2:

          Interesting you bought the Vita..
I missed that one, and got the 3DS instead..

Sadly for Sony, the handhelds don't as last long as Nintendos handhelds.
          e.g. PSP and Vita..

They don't support it long enough or whatever reason
it just just dies too quick.

Even their attempt at a Wii controller for the PS3 and Eye toy was crap novelty that didn't last long.

So it harder to trust getting any extra stuff from sony like PS4 VR etc..

        • @BradleyDS2:
Yeah when I said revise joycon
I meant to fix the connection issue..

        • @pinkybrain:
“A manufacturing variation has resulted in wireless interference with a small number of the left Joy-Con,” a Nintendo of America spokesperson said in a statement. “Moving forward this will not be an issue, as the manufacturing variation has been addressed and corrected at the factory level.”

Reported March 22 2017 by the Verge so the issue shouldn't exist now.

        • @BradleyDS2:

So you think the stock selling in May is new fix stock?

I don't it would have moved that fast, do you?

        • @pinkybrain: Take note of the year ;)

        • @BradleyDS2:

ah, it is easy to missed the year in dates..
          Most assume 2018

But I just recently read this news here..
which suggest otherwise and an actual fix is not release yet.

          http://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/nintendo-switch-joycon-f…

        • @pinkybrain: Ah, interesting. Thanks for sharing that, I wasn't aware.

Doesn't look like there was a response from Nintendo though, and there's always the chance they were just getting the paperwork done in case they do a change, but may not have decided to go ahead, although that seems pretty unlikely.

I'm glad that it looks like they're going to fix the problem completely, I wonder if customer service will allow exchanges once the revision is out.

        • @BradleyDS2:
Maybe if your joy is deem faulty then send it in for repairs then they may fix or may send new ones?

As for others, I don't think you can just send all the joys into it, if you haven't experience the fault

unless it is a mass recall type of thing…

Even looking at Apple antenna gate case and bend gate..
with the antenna gate, then gave free bumpers cos I seem to be a mass issue type of thing..and people were upset..
With bend gate, I don't think they did anything about it,

Even if they fix the issue with joycons, it will be useless for people who are buying it now..
except if they buy a new controller.
If they send this controller into repairs and hope they get sent a new one.
Most likely nintendo will just repair it, if it is cheap and easier to do.,.

        • @pinkybrain: I don't experience the problem, so it's not an issue for me. Would be nice if they did a full recall so I could get them fixed/replaced just in case, but I don't think that they ever will, and Nintendo customer service in Australia is dreadful compared to overseas.

        • @pinkybrain:

          Got neon, it looks awesome

    • It's not loud and doesn't draw attention to ones self while playing on the bus/train.

  • Dang I just ordered it yesterday for $399 with $20 discount.

Can Amazon AU do a $20 refund if requested. (like Amazon USA used to)

    • +4

I have actually heard that they give you the difference back if it's that close, chuck them an email and I'm sure they'd be able to help you out.

      • Yup gonna give it a shot. Cheers!

        • Worst case… If they have free return - order again and return the original.

        • How’d you go? I had luck doing the same thing over livechat

        • @theguyrules:

They didn't refund me $20 but gave me a $10 Amazon Credit.

They said they don't have offer for price match on website for current item.

          This was via email.

        • @RabidWolve: bummer. I got the full difference refunded to me. And somehow ended up being able to use the new user $20 off code again!

        • @theguyrules:

          Ya im pretty disapointed.
Ill give them a go via live chat.
If your comfortable are you able to pm me your order number, so I have something to compare
          to.

Edit…. Speaking with Live Chat they say they dont do price adjustments anymore and you got
          one in error.
          Lucky :)

        • @RabidWolve:
Disappointed? They owe you nothing and you got half of it as a credit for when you shop there next time.

    • +1

Has Amazon USA changed its price guarantee policy? They were incredibly helpful previously when I bought my headphones and the price dropped about $10-15 after a week. They happily refunded the difference via their online chat function, no questions asked.

      • I've heard they scratched that policy completely.

    • +1

I got in contact with them (because I did the exact same thing) and the staff cancelled my order. Now here's hoping the money gets refunded to me before the sale ends…

  • This is a pretty good deal. Not as good as the $320 Harvey Norman Amex deal last year, but damn close.

  • +1

    Are these consoles still hackable?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • +1

    CFW imcoming

  • -1

Anytime you wanna share digital purchases across a household Nintendo I'll purchase another :)

  • To buy or not to buy. Admittedly I'd be getting it for Just Dance <:

    • think whether or not it'll be collecting dust after you play it a few times or if you have free cash to spare then may as well?
I just received one as a gift good to play with the family and friends

    • Surprisingly not as horrible as everyone makes out - a hilarious party game.

I actually used it for cardio at 5am for 1hr and it's hell good.

      • Yep it's heaps of fun. Cardio is one of the main reasons and I can't dance 😂

  • I got a Switch at Costco for $329 about 2 weeks ago. I know you have the membership fee but…
I think the games where a few bucks cheaper as well.

    • +1

      is that still the price?

Can we use someone else membership or do they check?

      • They're very strict with membership. You need to tag along with a person who has a membership (face has to match the one printed on card).

      • Just went to Costco at Casula to check, the price already went back up to $439 :(

    • Whoa $329 is helluva cheap.

    • I messed up this is incorrect. The price is $439 at Costco

      • +1

so you actually paid $439, not $329?

  • Grey version is also $399 now on the original link from OP.

    • Thanks for that, have updated.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm that Costco are currently selling the Switch for $329? That seems like an excellent deal if still ongoing.

  • I'm sorry, I messed up. That is not the price at Costco. I just checked it's $439.

  • is it can do tax refund ? if I go to overseas.

    • Google it, but yes if you go overseas soon you should be able to claim TRS if you meet all the conditions

  • Also, Wonderboy is on sale on the eShop right now for $13, down from $26.
