Desktop Computer (2k Budget)

Hello,

I am looking to spend up to $2k on a desktop computer before the end of the financial year.

I'm pretty bummed that I missed out on the Dell ebay deals, as this one would have been perfect for me.

If only it were still 20% off…

I'm not a gamer, but as I am willing to spend up to $2k, I expect something really powerful with things that a gamer would want in their PC.

Any recommendations please?

Thanks!

  • Would you build it yourself? Why PC not laptop? What are you going to do with all that power…?

    • Don't know how to build one myself.

Just after a PC for my home business, already got a laptop. Willing to spend $2k because I have a lot of untaxed gross income this year, would rather spend a little extra on a PC than give more money to the government.

If you're working from home, just focus on the comfort aspect of your home office rather than the specifications of your PC.

If you're not gaming, you probably only need to spend about $800~1000 on the PC itself, but what I refer to the comfort stuff might be

        • Good office chair for ergonomics
        • Multiple monitors.
        • monitor arm
        • a good mouse and keyboard
        • a height adjustable table
        • better networking equipment.
        • a faster internet plan. May not be an option if you're stuck with ADSL2.

and if you listen to a lot of music maybe some nice noise cancelling headphones, good for drowning out noisy neighbours

        • Thanks scrimshaw, good advice.

Planning to get a couple of monitors, monitor arm, a good mouse and keyboard too. So would appreciate any good deals on these too!

Probably want thin monitors and a bad ass looking mechanical keyboard haha.

          @bxy00:

I'm rocking two very ordinary 24" 1080p monitors, which is good enough for me. They're not even IPS, just using TN panels.

Mouse: Logitech G502. If you prefer wireless, Logitech MX Master 2s

Keyboard is just an Azio MGK L80 with blue switches, but really anything will do. Could even go with a cheap Kogan mechanical RGB KB but keyboards are individual preference. Logitech has a wireless keyboard that can switch between 3 linked devices with a push of a button.

        • @scrimshaw:

Hmm thanks! how about for the PC itself?

        • @bxy00: The graphics card will always be the most expensive part in any gaming PC. I 100% agree with the above comments that 1k is enough. I think the biggest factor that makes people happier with their PC performance is the difference using an SSD makes for general use. I mean you could buy that Dell but if I were you I would remove the GTX 1070 and sell it to a crypto miner.

          +1 for good chair.

For monitor I would look at an ultrawide IPS.

Keyboard - Corsair K70 mechanical (never going back).

If you don't game then spend more money on Ram, NVME Drives, SSD and Intel optane.

  • So you want a $500 PC with a $1000 GPU and $500 worth of water cooling and RGB lights?

    Intel 9th gen 8-core, and a Nvidia GTX 1180…?

    • How could I a PC with these? Would I have to build it myself?

edit: Jokes, I realised there is no such thing as 9th gen lol

  • 2k including monitor?

    • Not including monitor

  • Build it yourself
it's literally plugging things and a few screws
Tools required: 1 Philips head screwdriver

    • I second this, I built my first PC when I was 8yo

Here's a PC build that matches the dell PC specs for $1975

But if you don't plan on gaming or doing anything that needs a GPU then you might as well spent that money on a nice monitor, keyboard, mouse, chair something that you will use.
What's good for gaming is pointless if you don't make use of the hardware.

Anything specific you would be doing with the computer?
