Seems the price has dropped since this post

Seems like a great price for a high pressure iron. Just make sure you do all your ironing in the one hit as it takes a few minutes to get going. This would not be a good option if you wanted to iron a shirt quickly before going out.

Something to consider is that as mentioned in other comments, it does have a long start up time and if you walk away it does switch off. Which means you have to endure another long start up. Something my mother was complaining about this week.

    • +14

Was she just subtly reminding you to get her something better for this year's Mothers Day?? :p

      • You got it haha

    • how does it know you walked away? do i have to hold it in my hand for the whole starting up period? (serious question)

    • Is two min the start up time as advertised or is it longer?

      • It's more like 3-4minutes.
Bloody awesome iron though. Got one last week. It's like speed ironing now.

        • So its got bad acceleration, but what is the top speed?

    • how long is long? i dont mind upto around 3 minutes, but if were talking 10-15 then thats a no deal from me

Had 2 non-steam tefal irons and they don't hold a candle to Philips. I swapped my last tefal for this:

      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/philips-perfectcare-viva-stea…

and never looked back. Auto-temperature control so you don't have to switch settings for different fabrics, starts up in 2 minutes, goes to sleep after a while but the restart lag depends on how long its been asleep. Reminds you when you need to run the auto-calc cleaning cycle (once a month for me, depending on the quality of water used). No regrets and you can get these for approximately $150 when on sale. Oh and the steam plate glides over fabric and doesn't scratch easily (unlike my tefal irons..)

Having said that $60 for a steam iron sounds amazing! Thanks for the post OP.

  • Thanks, got myself one.

  • thanks op! ordered

  • Thanks op

Purchased as a backup in case our current one breaks

    • What is the probability that it will break within one year. If not then probably it is not a good deal as a backup.
      :)

      • +1

Yep, I'd be using the new one now with the old one as back up. Assuming old signifies out of warranty. What you don't want is for the old one to break down when the new, unused one's warranty has expired and you find it is dead in its box. Then you would need to buy another iron.

        • Yes I was thinking same thing
Old iron is 3 years old

  • thanks OP… gone one!

Like most here, I hate ironing my clothes. Unfortunately I need to iron my clothes regularly for work. I usually bribe the wife to do it if I'm honest. She's been saying we need to upgrade, are these new ones much better than the old fashioned non-steam ones? $60 seems like about double what I'd pay for a regular cheapy so if $60 gets me into the next level of iron awesomeness I'm pretty tempted.

The thing I hate about ironing is I'm constantly going over areas again and again, seems like I could be there for an hour and it still not be perfect. If this thing glides and does the job much faster I'm on board.

I bought on the last deal. fro $60.00 this is a steal.

I was so used to using a good iron that when my last iron broke, i bought a $10 cheapie from kmart. absolutely terrible. could be ironing the same shirt for 15 mins and still full of creases. then tried this. and did 5 shirts in less than 10 minutes.

      • Find the local dry cleaner, often do work shirts washed and pressed for $2 a shirt. My local does.

        best investment ever.

        • +1

That's 30 shirts. This would pay for itself many shirts over.

        • @strangeloops66:

I'm with you, whilst $2 is a bargain for the one off situation (ie when travelling on business or to a formal event) sure. But if we're talking investments I'd rather own a decent iron than be paying an itemised fee each time. It doesn't have to be as good, just better than a regular iron.

        Your reply sold me.

I don't know where my iron came from, it was my late mothers originally and must be >15 years old. But you just described every shirt I have ironed, it's ridiculous I can be at it for 10 minutes and it still looks like rubbish, creases somewhere I left behind still.

        • Glad it helped. i did another batch of shirts on the weekend. literally did over 20 shirts in no time. Further reaffirmed my satisfaction and i hope it saves u time as well.

ps. i managed to get amazon to refund me the difference from what i paid. Score!

    • Can't say for sure about this Tefal, but like many long time ozbargainers here I have the Philips GC8642 which is definitely an improvement over normal steam irons. Although depending on your ironing style your hand might get steam burns the first few times (I did).

  • Ordered - thanks!!!

  • Thanks op got on it!

  • +1

Ordered thanks OP! Hope it smashes out creases on work shirts easy.

  • +2

i've got an iron already but i think im going to buy this anyway :( lol

  • Can't remember the last time I ironed my clothes :S

  • +3

    I ended up buying
    1. this Tefal Actis Plus GV6350 High Pressure Steam Generator
    2. Kenwood Ksense TCM400TT Electric Toasters and
    3. Tefal Avanti 1.7L Kettle KI260860
    !

All the savings are gone :)

    • Same here :( I bought the
      1. Tefal optigrill,
      2. Tefal steam iron,
      3. Delonghi toaster (I know what you feel buying this lol)
      4. And finally heaps of cheapies from Maxwell & williams! All my savings are gone as well :(
Anyhow would be happy if all are used to the max. Have a good time :)

  • Thanks ordered one!

  • Awesome! Got one. Thanks.

  • It takes me about two minutes on average to iron each of my work and casual shirts. Would this cut that time in half?

  • Any reasons why I can't choose free delivery? I have to choose Expedited Delivery which is another $5.99 otherwise I can't place the order.

    • Same

    • Noticed this as well. But select free shipping, look at total price, then select Expedited and you see the total goes up. So i think it is a visual bug if anything. My order worked out to $60 when i selected free shipping.

  • Thanks OP

I just timed the startup with a watch: 1:57min until ready.
3-4 minutes is way off. Never had that long after a few hundred used.

Once it’s left idle for a few minutes it goes on standby mode for 10 odd mins. Once you click the handle it’s only 10-30 secs until it goes live again.

Best thing I’ve ever bought. Had it for a year.

  • damn was keen for this but missed out. got the TS 715A instead, would be keen for this if it ever hits this price again tho…
