The fine print says *This offer is strictly limited to the recipient of this email only.
    It seems like it’s targeted?

    • maybe, if you dont receive a email best to call 28degrees to find out

      • I called they are hopeless couldnt tell me anything. they have no dep and unable to check if opted in for mkt

  • +4

Thanks for putting in the fine print too OP!

  • +2

Yes! I finally get a targetted deal!

    • Did you already have your 28 Degrees card setup on Apple Pay?

      • I did

      • I did not

      • I did not and I received the email.

      • I did.

  • +1

Do you reckon if I apply for the card now this will apply for me too?
    Does 28degrees have monthly/yearly fees?

    • no fees

    • +1

You should also take their insurance as they will cover a lot of thing. Put a reminder in your calendar to pay the full amount every month and you don’t have to pay anything. Last time some one stole my card and they gave me $200 credit for loosing the card. :)

  • Off topic but anybody know how to close my 28 degrees card account. i'm tired of their "pay my account" options

    • +6

      Call them.

    • +1

      Ask Google to call them.

    • +9

Post a dumb question on ozb.

    • Set up direct debit

  • +2

Not targeted. Might need to slow down my spending.

  • Didn't get this email :(

  • I got it but don’t understand
Must I use Apple Pay with the card?

    • +1

      Yes you must

    • +1

Only if you want to take advantage this offer!

  • +1

That moment when you only check your email after seeing something like this on Ozbargain :) Thank you.
I just checked my email and I got one like this too. I don't think it works for everyone as it is targeted! But I would call and ask them.

    • You need to activate offer

      • How to activate? There is no activate button in the email.

  • Got the same email for my go Mastercard

    • Is that also backed by Latitude?

  • +3

Hmm so you have to spend a minimum of $1000/month to get the 5% back. With not many opportunities to pay with Apple Pay (already have discount egift cards for groceries and fuel, and you can't pay bills with Apple Pay either) I don't think I'll meet the requirements.

    • Yeah, sounds like you need to spend $1000/month through Apple Pay to get the deal, which kinda blows it up.

      • +1

T&c says you need to spend $1000, not $1000 through Apple Pay. That’s how I read it. Otherwise “up to $50” doesn’t make any sense. It would always be $50 if you spend $1000 through Apple Pay in a given month.

        • +1

          ?

Offer says need to spend through Apple Pay. 5% of $1000 is $50. "Up to" is if you spend less than $1000

        • +2

Exactly… why put “up to $50” and “minimum $1000” in the same sentence? They kinda contradict each other since 5% of $1000 is $50, which means “up to” is unnecessary.

          I’m confused…

        • @yumdumpring: I see now, "up to $50" and "minimum $1000" should not be in same sentence. I'd say it's badly worded but just means that spends lower than $1000 qualify for 5%

        • +1

@grasstown: I asked them you don't need to spend $1000 to get 5%, but to get $50 you need to spend a mininum of $1000.
If you only spend $100 with apple pay you will still get $5

      • +1

        you don't, I asked them :)

    • +2

To pay in apps and on the web with iPhone and iPad, select Apple Pay as the payment method and place your finger on the Touch ID.

      • wtf

Btw. Should say Touch ID or Face ID - since iPhone X Doesn’t have Touch ID

Regardless their statement is very confusing

      • +2

How is this confusing? Apart from leaving off Face ID which probably didn't exist when initially they wrote it the description above is accurate.

While most people are only aware of the last paragraph (paying in a store) the first 2 paragraphs are still correct just used less often. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201239

      • Any way to use Apple Pay with Windows?

    • +4

I suspect what their trying to get at is you need to spend $1000 per month to get the maximum benefit of $50 (5% of $1000) which you can get in each of the 3 months the promotion is open for (max $150 back).

I think you'll be right spending less than $1000 you'll just receive a pro-rata 5% refund not the full $50.

Someone should ask google to call them and clarify :P

    • -3

Pretty much you need to spend more than $100O up to $3000 for maximum benefit. Not that confusing.
Since minimum credit is $50 upto $150.

  • -1

yes if someone calls let us know if its targeted or anyone with the card qualifies and if there is a minimum spend required to get the cash back>?

  • To pay in apps and on the web with iPhone and iPad, select Apple Pay as the payment method and place your finger on the Touch ID.

I don’t remember any websites I buy from that have Apple Pay as a payment method…

So spending $1000 in store kills this deal.

    • +2

Prezzee app accepts Apple Pay and you can purchase gift cards from there.

    • I don’t remember any websites I buy from that have Apple Pay as a payment method…

Some of the Shopify powered ones might. I bought a shower head off OzBargain which was the first one I used Apple Pay for last year!

    • The Klook app has the Apple Pay feature. Very handy especially when paying in another currency.

  • +1

Make sure to pay off your card via direct deposit. Bpay slugs you fees

    • What sort of fee?

      • A $0.95 fee on the 28 Degrees for Bpay payments.

  • +3

I was shocked the other day to find their credit card fraud line is not staffed 24/7. WTF?

Add this to the limited ability to pay your card fee free (direct debit and over the phone are free, not bpay, and the online service center blocks you from paying pending transactions, and blocks you from making more than one payment every 5 days)

Add this to the need to pay your card prior to your statement to avoid the 0.5% insurance (if you choose to take it out)

Add this to the non fee-free cash withdrawals overseas

= 28 degress has lost all the compelling reasons to have one.

    • -1

If they provide all those services, they be out of business.

    • +2

Except the no fee currency conversion benefit as a compelling reason…or am I missing something?

  • +2

i'm confused too, so you have to use on apple pay? where does it say only valid thru apple pay? the line where it says Now you'll get 5% back* when you shop using your 28 Degrees Mastercard and Apple Pay can be understand as using the mastercard itself is also valid??

    didn't receive this offer :(

    Clarified. See transcript below.

    1. The purchase must be by ApplePay function to qualify.
    2. Overall spend must be minumum of A$1000

I don't think that rep is right. Or perhaps rep thought you were referring to $50 as "the offer". My own inclination is that pro rata <1000 will get 5% back

      1. Should the entire $1000 spend be via Mobile wallet? My monthly bill does come over $1000 as I've my insurances and a few utility bills direct debited from this card.

I've written to them asking this.

      • Must be via Apple pay

      • Hi Kara, Have 28 deg responded to you query?

        • Very deceptive. Called and spoke to 28degree rep. He was so confused. Said I have to spend $1000 to activate the offer, and then spend more money to get 5% cashback of what I spend after $1000

Not being satisfied with his response. I spoke to his manager.

She told me that I need to spend minimum $1000 to receive any cashback. She admitted that her team was confused by the wording of the email and ruled it so 28 degrees will not be offering any cashback if you spend less than $1000

Better off continue using your AMEX or other rewards card if you aren’t going to spend more than $1000 in a month. Alternatively you can use Prezzee app to buy woolies/Coles giftcards at 5% off using Apple Pay (I assume there’s an option for android pay but have not tested it myself)

        • +1

          @lakers1222:

Hi Lakers, did they clarify that $1000 to be spent by Apple Pay? The wording in email suggests that we can use both the card and Apple Pay to spend $1000.

    • that's really weird I asked the same and they said there is no minimum spending to get %5, I even gave an example like if I spend $100 with apple pay would I get $5 they said yes

  • +2

Wondering if you can buy Coles gift cards using Apple Pay under this promotion???

Looking for ways to meet the $1000+ per calendar month criteria.

As Myki (public transport pass) top ups can be done with Apple Pay, this might also be another idea for bringing forward spending.

  • +6

Hey OP you can update this to say it's now compatible with Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Fitbit Pay and Garmin Pay. I just received an email about it.

    • Yeah seems to be available for Android Pay now. Somebody made a post but a moderator unpublished it - If I hadn't seen that post, I wouldn't know that this now includes Android Pay.

    • thanks post updated

      • The Google Pay offer isn't as generous:

Now with Pay any way, you can enjoy the cardless convenience and security of paying anywhere, anytime on any device. From now until 23 June 2018 use your 28 Degrees Platinum Mastercard on Google Pay and you'll get 5% cashback up to $50*.

    • Did you manage to enable it in Google Pay? When I try to add it it says to call them but when I called them the dude said Google pay isn't supported.

      • I didn't activate it as I'm about to end my 28D as I have better.

        • Your gonna pass up a free $50? :O

Out of interest which is better?

        • @No: I missed the $50 part. I thought it was just 5% but even then I need to find $1000 to spend on.

I use Coles rewards. Even though it has a $99 fee I still get it all back quickly with flybuys. I turned most of it into Velocity to fly free 😊

  • got this offer today.

I just got this today for Samsung but the end date is 31st August..

    • got my offer today as well. it will come in handy with my overseas trip next month.

    • I'm not sure what is going on in the OP right now. It seems to have merged the new offer into the first offer. The first offer is:

Your favourite shopping buddy just got even better. Now you'll get 5% back* when you shop using your 28 Degrees Mastercard and Apple Pay. That's up to $50 cashback a month until July 31st on top of the no annual fees, online purchase and foreign transaction fees, you already enjoy!

Eligible transactions do not include cash advances, credit fees or charges, credits, refunds, reimbursements or balance transfers into your account, or extended interest free or other promotional purchases. Offer is valid from receipt of email to offer end date. To qualify, you must fulfil on the terms of the offer. Up to $50 will be credited to your account when you spend a minimum of $1,000 in a calendar month, to a maximum of $150 credited during the promotional period. The cash back amount will be credited to your account within 30 days of the offer end date of 31 July 2018. The account must be open and not in default of the credit contract when the credit is applied.

To me there is nothing in the whole text that indicates that you have to spend a minimum $1000. Nothing indicates that you won't earn 5% for less than $1000.

The words "Up to $50 will be credited to your account when you spend a minimum of $1,000 in a calendar month" work with this interpretation. As $50 is "up to $50" and you will earn $50 when you spend a minimum of $1000.

That term is not inconsistent with the other terms of the offer. It does not impose a minimum spend on the offer conditions.

  • Samsung email for clarity based on above:

Personally I just read it as spend $1k p/m to be eligible, which in the 3 billing cycles that it's open (June/July/Aug), allows you to get up to $150

    • +1

Personally I just read it as spend $1k p/m to be eligible, which in the 3 billing cycles that it's open (June/July/Aug), allows you to get up to $150

Agree but this contradicts (the $150) and makes out you can get it for end of May.

Offer is valid from receipt of email to offer end date.

That's up to $50 cashback each month until 31st August

  • As some others above have pointed out, I've also been left a little confused by the wording.

The fine print implies that a minimum of $1k+ must be spent in that calendar month to qualify for the maximum $50 cashback (which is 5% of $1000, so anything above that you spend will not qualify). My question is whether the $1k+ must ALL be via mobile wallet payment. The answer I've been given (over the phone) is that you must spend $1k+ via mobile wallets. So you can't, for example, have $950 in transactions from mobile payments and then have a $100 online transaction separately (total $1050) to qualify for this spend. She says $1000+ must be spent via mobile wallets.

I don't quite trust what she says though. The wording certainly does not suggest that this is the case..

Anyone else with further updates/information? It does make quite a difference.

    • Yeah it struck me as tough to spend >$1k on a mobile wallet unless you have a largish family and are doing big weekly shops.. but I suspect that's what they're banking on - increasing card usage but having people fall short.

      • I managed to put a few postbillpay eligible bills (council rates) together to hit the $1k for May

        • +2

you don't need to hit the $1k mark, it's a poor wording but you get up to $50 for a minimum spend of $1000 but you ll get %5 even you spend only $10 with apple pay

        • how did you get postbillpay to accept apple Pay? Their in store terminals don't even accept it. Once you tap it says "insert card" :S

        • @abc: I used Samsung Pay in store as Australia Post for postbillpay. Since it was $1000, I had to tap then enter PIN.

        • @bdl:

I wonder if that still counts towards the promo?

  • Anyone got credit come through? I spent less than $1000 and did not see any credit :(

    • The cash back amount will be credited to your account within 30 days of the offer end date of 31 July 2018

My interpretation is that less than 1000 will qualify. Others have a different view

      • Oh! Thank you for the clarification :)

  • +4

I got my first $50 credited to my account yesterday. I thought I would have to wait until after July but appears not. I did happen to spend $1000 on Apple Pay.

    • +5

Yep and I got less than 50 as I spent less than 1000. Also yesterday

      • +1

I spent less than $1000. On the account the description is listed as SPECIAL PROMO CREDIT.

        • My spend with Android Pay (or Google Pay, as it's now supposed to be known) of $997.95 was on 26 May. Still no credit as of today.

        • @illumination: mine was the Apple Pay that didn't need activation/registration. I just added my card to wallet and started tapping with phone. The other promo has different terms I think

        • @grasstown: yes I think they had 2 at the same time where the first one didn't have a minimum spend but was maxed at $50 (for a minimum spend at $1000) I was on the first one and just got $25 back

      • +1

I just got $12.34 SPECIAL PROMO CREDIT. Didn't track my usage, but clearly less than $1000 that was supposedly required. Good to get free money!
