Doesn't matter cause you get 5.2% Cashrewards and $10 referral credit with new account (just use a new IP address using a 4G connection )

      • +4

just use a new IP address using a 4G connection

I'd prefer not to rort the system, the referral system should be for genuine referrals.

        • +2

Well I do question the genuinity of Cashrewards tracking practices since I had 3 transactions of hello fresh (I think cashback of $30 each) never tracking and other ozbargainers with large eBay purchases not being tracked.

    • So most people have this offer and I am the only one who doesn’t have it on 2 cards?

  • office works price beat 95$

    • -1

Doesn't matter cause you he 5.2% Cashrewards and $10 referral credit with new account.

      • Where do I find this $10 referral credit?

    • I tried, they sprouted some BS about it being on clearance, and wouldn't honour it…

  • Unless anything's changed,I would stay well away from them… Unless you are buying in store.

  • been trying to price match over the phone with office works for 15min…smh

    • Why won't they price match? It's their obligation to. Ask to speak to the on duty manager. I used to have problems with them as I used to price match for quantities of 30-100 and never had an issue.

I've taken them to task on various chromecast, google home products, even the ones where they had an instore limit, could get them to pricematch 30-40 at a time.

    • any luck mate?

      • +1

I got it price matched ! $95 … happy days!

      • yup, they said they would do it :) but gotta get there quick before the original website changes…

  • +5

They also have the tp-link smart wifi socket for $29.98 which is cheap.

    • Might be the non energy monitor one?

  • +3

    solid first post mate!

  • Is it worth spending that extra money on a google home compared to mini?

    • +2

personally, i prefer more minis than 1 full-sized, I have my GHM paired to a Bose bluetooth speaker and the only real difference between Home and home mini is the sound quality.

    • +3

      If for music, yes.

    • +1

AFAIK, all you get over the mini is:
      1) touch to wake and
      2) better speaker/baffle

If you want to listen to music/audio at a higher quality, but you're ok listening to mono audio then yeah go for it. If you want stereo and higher quality then a mini, a chromecast audio and a set of decent speakers will provide a better result but at a higher price and taking up more space (don't ignore the fact that 3 devices require 3 powerpoints - this setup starts to become something of a monster). There's also the Home Max which combines the 3 devices (better speakers, google home and chromecast audio), but it's very pricey.

I'm tempted. I sometimes listen to podcasts and audiobooks through my mini and the sound is fine, but not good.

      • Yea the mini is fine for small things, but if you want a slightly bassy song, or even just listen to music in a big room, the mini falls flat. It's great for small rooms and basic voice stuff. I also notice it doesn't pick up my voice from other rooms like the regular home does.

      • In what way does google max ‘combines’ a Chromecast audio?

….. in that it has a 3.5mm jack?

Imo the max being able to be hooked up with an Ethernet cable is a plus.

BUT, we are really all waiting for phone calls to be implemented, right?

(…which might be closer now as google home uk just got that feature).

    • +1

The sound quality is noticeable, especially at higher volumes. A Mini is fine in a small room, or just for voice commands, but the full-size one does a much better job of most music. I spent the money for the upgrade and haven't regretted it.

  • Good Guys Bundall won't price match, I was hoping to price match then get the $20 cashback

    • Cash back?

  • i don't think i could get into these devices until technology is advanced like in star trek, where you ask the "computer" for anything lol
now that would be freakin awesome

  • +3

Just price matched at David Jones Sydney City store. No problems. Lots of stock.

    • Thanks for that!

I was gonna go to OW but will just go to DJ's after work.
      What level is it on?

      What did you say?

      • Men’s building, level 3

        • Thanks

    • Were you buying it from DJ to use the Amex offer? If so, I thought the offer was only applicable for online purchases only?

      • Oh no. I did use Amex thinking the deal was in store too. Thought it was odd that I didn't get the Amex confirmation email. Oh well, still ok price.

    • Sweet, will pop in after work

      • Confirmed price match at DJ's Sydney CIty

    • -1

why? get it from officeworks with 5% extra discount

    • Just picked one up. Thanks.

  • DAMN! Wanted one for a while! Thanks!

  • Thanks OP :D Just price matched at Officeworks Glen Waverley. Got it for $95. When I called up to put one on hold, I was told that they have 7 in stock so there should still be 6 in stock after my purchase. None on display though!

  • +1

Thanks OP. Great find! Just got one from officeworks Hay Street (WA) via pricematch. The manager put it through no problem. Two other guys behind me got the same. A third gent walked in to get one and they were suddenly out of stock.

  • +1

Note free delivery via standard post from Australian Geographic.

    • The stores locations aren't too shabby. I'm picking up in store :)

  • Castle Hill Officeworks would not price match - they said that it doesn't have Australian Warranty… JB Hi-Fi price matched though.

  • Looking at getting this or the mini for the kitchen, I know the speakers arent as good on the mini but any benefits of this over the mini?

  • I'm quite sure I'll live my life without one of these, or at least until I have a kid that wants one. I've still got no home automation, no plans to install it, and no need for stuff that can't be done traditionally. Theyre a nice device if you can be bothered, sure.

Conversely I've got every console under the sun, a 4k oled and a new denon avr (thanks ozbargain for the latter two). To me, these serve a purpose..

  • Officeworks at Greenacre still have plenty, grabbed one for $95 and donated $5.)

  • +1

Its all fun and games until the lights are out at night and She calls out in the silence, "I can't help you with that" or "there seems to be a problem", at least it isn't as creepy as Alexa https://mashable.com/2018/03/07/why-amazon-alexa-laughing/#O…

    • Googles working on replacing people with its calling ai so…..

  • hows the google mini compared to google home as price wise it is still half of it ?

    • +1

I have both and I prefer Google Home over Google Home mini. Both have the same features but Google home has better speakers and mic. If there is a background noise (e.g. TV playing) then Google Home still picks up my voice fine whereas I have to mute TV if I want Google Home mini to understand me. Put Google Home in your main room and Google home mini in other rooms where there is not much of ambient noise.

  • Got jb chaddie to price match, had a 15% voucher from December… woo hoo $85. Couldn’t decide google or Alexa, this tipped the scale

  • What happens if you put two homes together. Will they talk to each other?!

  • Went to David Jones to price match, only realized once I was there that the Amex Offer was online only :( Tried to ask for a price-match coupon code that I could use online instead but they refused as they could only price match in-store (didnt believe them but couldn't be arsed sticking around). So ended up going to my local OfficeWorks (CBD Clarence street) and they agreed. Happy to get it for $95!

    • They're telling the truth. In store staff don't have the ability to give codes to use on DJs Online, only the Online department can give out codes

      Source: Current employee

      • Cheers, good to know. I did ask them if they could contact their online department for me as well, but they refused. No dramas, $95 is a great bargain!

  • This is now sold out

  • Just went to order and it has disappeared, shows up as page not found :(

  • Now gone - I'm guessing pricing error?

    • No, there the same price in store, got the last one from the Miranda store

  • Google Max is on kogan

  • +1

Now the "sorry we oversold" posts?

  • Search for just google on their webpage and it still shows. This was good enough for David Jones to price match :)

  • Mmmmm bought one online at 4.13pm, picked up from store.

I think it gets mailed to the store for me to pick it up.

    Hope it is honoured.

    • The store rang me. Picked up the next day.

  • Dang, missed that! Gone like lighting speed!

    • same, missed it by couple of hrs.
too busy at work :( should have just ordered it at lunch time.

      • Having the same regret :(

  • You think office works, jbhifi etc would still price match tomorrow assuming they don’t know it’s sold out ?

    • nope, they wont. They will check stock at the time you request for a price match.

  • Thanks OP been waiting for sub $100 but this was close enough!

  • Need a Google Home Plus with Zigbee.

  • Does anyone have a screen capture of the webpage, wanted to get this pricematched as there are no Australia geographic stores near me.

  • It's back up!

Had no trouble at all yesterday price matching/beating in store at Officeworks.

    • I'm in OW now, they said no cos it's on clearance and they don't match that…. Oh well. I didn't really need it as I already have a mini haha

      • That's rubbish, it doesn't say clearance anywhere.

        • Yeah, I got screwed… oh well.

  • +1

Link still works for me? Just ordered one.

  • can someone explain whats so good about the google home?

    • In my opinion, good for lazy people.

  • Will it get updated with the new (creepy) Google duplex AI or will they release another device for that ?

  • +1

Even at this price I couldn't justify buying the Home over a Home Mini, unless you're planning to use it as your main speaker for music. If you already have a better speaker, which most Bargainers would, I'd suggest investing the price difference in a Chromecast for your home theatre set up or a Chromecast Audio for a bluetooth speaker.

    • I have 3 of them bedroom (mini), lounge, kitchen.

Setting them up to play all at once means can fill most of house with music at once.

I also have an audio Chromecast hooked to a better speaker system (also controlled by the google home app) which I use when I want better fidelity.

  • +1

I need it, I dont need it, I need it,I dont need it,I need it, I dont need it, I need it,I dont need it.
Out of stock, Phew… such a relief

  • Out of stock… would OW price match if its out of stock ?

    • +1

      Nope just tried

  • +1

If google doesn't have most of your information already, buy this product to make sure!

  • +1

Thanks! Was able to pricematch at OW just as it went out of stock.

  • Good first post OP.

  • OOS again.

  • How do I post a receipt? Jbhifi price matched this deal this morning for me.

    • How did that work? knowing that the one in this deal is out of stock? which jbhifi was that. really wanna get a one!

      • Woden, Canberra.

  • +1

Why did I just receive a refund for my order? Was this a price error? The refund email had no further info…argh!!!

    • +1

      +1 I got the same email…

      • I emailed them and got a reply saying their stock levels on their website were incorrect. I'm spewing as I thought I got in quite early…Damn!

  • My order was also canceled : (
