Renters Insurance against Damaging The Landlord's Property

I rent a furnished home. One time we damaged the carpet and had to pay to get it fixed (fair enough). The agent said that the landlord could claim on his building insurance but the insurance company would chase us for damages.

Since the house is full of the landlord's furniture and appliances it is possible that we could cause far more expensive damage (knock over the TV, accidentally crash the car into the garage door etc.) Is there an insurance product that would cover us (the tenants) for damage to the landlord's property?

All I can find are Contents insurance policies which only cover our own belongings.

Note: This is similar to the following post, but I didn't find that it accurately answered my question.

  • Some renters insurance covers accidental damage. This one does for glass and ceramics. Might be worth looking around for other options.

I would assume any damage made less than the bond you paid wouldn't be worthwhile insuring by time pay excess etc.

    • Isn't that just for if you break your own glass and ceramics? Not the ones belonging to the landlord.

      • You're probably right but can always put those items on the contents cover if the insurance agrees.

        • Tbh I'm not really too concerned about insuring against minor damage. More if we accidentally caused major damage. Or if we somehow caused damage to the building itself.

The landlord probably doesn't have emotional attachment to the furniture in the place. I wouldn't worry about it, whatever you pay in insurance/excess will probably be not far off your bond which is all they can get out of you, unless they want to try to take you to small claims court or something. Which wouldn't be worthwhile over a few hundred for a nice second hand TV (if you broke that), or $50 for some second hand old couch.
