Dim Sim or Dim Sum? Anyone know why some sims are sums and some sums are sims? 🤔

    • Auto correct in my phone changed it to sums. I did type sims.

In general the style of food is called 点心, which can be pronounced as Dian Xin in Mandarin or Dim Sum in Cantonese. It's basically chinese style brunch/morning tea food.

Dim Sim is an adaptation inspired from using chinese-style pastry wrapping with a filling such as prawn or pork or whatever.

      • Dim Sum/ Yum Cha is popular in South China (Guangdong), HK & Macau, than the rest of China.

So you can say its more an Cantonese style tea food than "Chinese Style".

Don't you mean filled with dog/cats etc? :D

A dim sim is when your bargain starter pack won't activate causing you to have angry thoughts towards the telco. 😜

Are the pork buns any good?

    • +3

They're alright but they are mini so the bun to filling ratio is a bit off. Still good though for frozen. Love the pork siu mai! Quite a few 3 pc servings in a pack. Love microwaving a few for quick and cheap lunch at work.

      • That would explain why pork buns have helped to 'complete' my stomach - to the point that I have to breath in to do up my pants.

Wish they had some vegetarian options rather then stuffing meat into everything in the frozen section

I have bought dumplings from this brand and IMO they are no good, actually some are quite bad, but everyone has different taste…

    • For $5 a pack they aren't restaurants quality.

      • No, wasn't expecting restaurants quality, just comparing with other brands, e.g. 'Chan's Yum Cha at Home' are better, you can get them half price at Coles/Woolies sometimes.

        • Wifey makes all our dumplings with some flour, minced pork and freshly caught Brisbane river prawns. not gonna get fresher or better quality than that!

These do go 1/2 price sale at Coles quite regularly. I personally like them as a cheap snack/small meal filler. Generally buy up in bulk when they go at this price.

If I ever get a pet iguana his name will be Hong Kong dim sum

  • Good deal but if you want better value go to a good Asian supermarket! Can get a big bag for $3.50-5 with loads of different kids, all made in Australia.
