  • Already bought mx master yesterday.

    • Not as good as the Performance MX. Source: I own both.

      • Can you elaborate? I am seriously thinking of getting a MX master for my office PC, but I do have a Performance MX at home.

  • Advice with those that have this. I am a big fan of the OLD Microsoft Trackball Optical, still have one. The Logitech M570 was too small for my hands. Anyone care to comment on MX Ergo Wireless from a size perspective? From what I have read, the Japanese brand SANWA seems a likely contender for those with bigger hands. Opinions appreciated.

    • Have a look at the Logitech marble trackball. It's laid out differently, so you use your fingers for the ball instead of your thumb. Cheaper too, at Amazon US: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001F42MKG/

i have a mans size hand and i find it to be around the same size as the old MS one. very happy with it so far the only small issue is the scroll wheel makes a screaching sound that bugs me a little. hopping it will go away with use.

CST L-trac is the only trackball that will stay smooth forever because it uses self cleaning stainless steel ball bearings. If you feel any roughness in the rolling action you simply give the ball a flick and it's smooth again.

Every other trackball that I'm aware of uses teflon ball bearings which become covered in dust/grime which permanently compromises the rolling action of the ball.

I use m570 and pop the trackball out from time to time to clean those bearings. Why would you say permanently compromises? I've been using mine happily every day for at least 5 years.

Great price. Just bought one last week. Been using M570. I really like the hardware. It's a little larger than M570 and has 2 positions to vary your handle angle. I find it very comfortable to use.

However, the logitech "Options" software is appalling. It allows you to customise what the buttons do, and seems to work fine. Then it crashes with a "stopped working" message. If you re-start it, it will crash again in an hour or so. If you don't re-start, you have lost all your customisation. I created a ticket with Logitech, as yet no response. However there are reports of this problem with the MX mouse (same software) from over 3 years ago that have not been resolved. Of course, YMMV.

I do recommend it, but be prepared to accept the default button functions if the software fails for you also.

  • Any Austrlaian store sells a case for it?

    • If you can't find one at a reasonable price, consider Sistema lunchboxes. They're quite rugged, and you can probably find one that is about the right size.

      • Lol, that's exactly what I use!

  • I can't see how moving your thumb rather than your wrist is more comfortable in the long run. What is the appeal of these trackball mice other than that you don't need as much desk space?

    • For some apps like CAD, you may have to scroll off the side of the screen to make the screen pan. You quickly run out of mouse-pad doing this, and often have to lift the mouse up and re-position it on the pad. Not a problem with a trackball.

Also, for people with carpal-tunnel syndrome or similar condition, it's much easier to prop your arm in a comfortable position. But I think a fingers-operated trackball would be better than a thumb-operated one, in this situation.

But I agree, reduced need for desk space is a major advantage. Much easier to operate on your lap, too. Personally, I'd prefer laptop computers to have a trackball than a trackpad, but it's an extremely rare thing.

        like this one? 😀

        • Wow, how did you find that? The only other one I have seen had the trackball above the DEL key, which is probably a better position.

    • Rare use case probably, but I run my PC into the living room TV. This is perfect for mousing while lounging around on the couch.

I'm using the M570 at the moment but I'm probably going to jump on this deal, my M570 is having issues registering clicks now.

  • Officeworks will price beat just FYI.

    • Pretty sure they have brought down their prices in line with HN to avoid the 5%.

Edit: No they haven't. But I see the MX Master is same as HN.

  • Recently converted to this trackball, from apple Magic Mouse (RSI symptoms), very pleased.
