Great Find, O.P thumbs Up for this one!

  • I didn't think it was possible, but that makes Norton 360 good value!

    • You couldn't pay me to take N0rt0n bloatware (TM)…

      You're better off with;
      * Avast or AVG for free antivirus
      * Comodo or Zone Alarm for free firewall
      * Spybot Search and Destroy (www.safer-networking.org) and Spyware Blaster (www.javacoolsoftware.com) for free anti spyware immunisation. Just be careful to get these from the right sites, not the fake versions that actually give you spyware.

      • For what it's worth I used to feel the same way - Norton product was crazily resource hungry a few years back - and I've also used some of the programs you mentioned and found them quite good. But after reading many reviews I decided to try 360 V4 and have been quite impressed. To each their own.

You can set up free stuff; I'd recommend MBAM (paid) over Spybot/SB however. And ZoneAlarm? They've had sooo many kill-your-PC bugs over the years I would steer clear.

As for the deal however; I did read a year or two again that Norton had rewritten one of their packages from scratch for speed and stability, it may be this one and it may be worth a shot. I don't think I'll get the deal though because if I put it on any of the family's PCs they'll be calling me in a year to pay to renew it (I take it this works on a yearly license).

      • Can I just offer the opinion that unless you have used 360 for a while, or read multiple (reliable) reviews then commenting on the quality of this product may be a bit unhelpful. It's unclear from many of the posts here whether or not this is the case but I'm sticking my neck out and assuming most negative opinions are based on previous norton products such as Norton Internet Security. When it comes to those old packages I totally agree - Norton significantly slowed computers and was pretty much a virus itself because it was extremely difficult to remove all components.

The thing is, I've been using 360 for quite a while now (full disclosure: i get it free from a friend that works there) and couldn't fault it.. I have previously used ZoneAlarm Security Suite and Kaspersky and both were much slower. Norton 360 runs some decent background optimisation processes and I think most users would notice no or minimal speed difference after installing. Their virus detection rates are also significantly higher than before and I would now say they are industry leaders in terms of virus definitions.

My advice is just that people read some reviews and make up their own minds. Mind you it was sold out before I posted this anyway!

      • agreed, I use AVAST and see no reason to switch to another virus scanner.

  • Great program and a great price, great find op, Great work!

  • Great find. I have norton internet security 2011 installed and it still has few months left. I dont see a possibility of buying the product and get the cashback without activating.
Edit: Got the claim as a cheque last time from norton with no problems in 4-5 weeks.

    • Might be worth an online help chat with Norton - I found them very helpful and they added the 365 days to my existing remainig days - admittedly was 360 to 360 but worth asking - good luck

      • will definitely do that. thanks :)

….but Microsoft Security Essentials is free and does pretty much the same job?

    • MSE is a antivirus program only and you have to rely on microsoft. God knows, how much information they share hidden from us to their networks.
Norton has Antivirus, smart firewall, anti fishing and anti spam and the best part is the Parental Controls for parents, who want to control or restrict their kids activity.
Norton products are now quite light and fast. They are proving it by giving claims.

secondly, if you see a lot of online streams of videos or downloads with torrents. it is always advisable to use a good anti virus program with firewall, antispyware, etc.

  • Thanks op

  • More money saved! Ta so much:)

  • I have a question:

Couldn't you just buy the same product from umart for $48 and get the $40 back? Or have I missed something?

Also, I know umart doesn't have free postage.

    • +1

That's a good point - but you'd proably need to check if the package you buy is the retail version and not OEM as some sell them and the cash back may not apply

      • Ah right - OEM vs retail.

        There's the difference!

  • worst internet security money can buy… blerg
Cheapest computer upgrade you can do is remove norton!!
If you want the best, go ESET Nod32. Tiny footprint, works an absolute charm

Your reading skills really need a polish don't they?
      "keep that to your self"
You don't have to like Norton, you don't have to give the deal a plus, you just have to have a little bit of self control. Is it really so hard to do so? I'm a lot younger than the average guy (or girl :)) here and have managed to keep my thoughts about Norton to myself. You're really not setting a very good example for my generation are you…

    • NOD32 charges more for licenses from it's Australian distributor than overseas customers have to pay. Have they changed their policy regarding this? Also, for several years now Symantec/Norton 360 has been taking top spots in antivirus testing. Years ago I would have echoed your sentiments, but the product has been drastically changed for a few years now.

    • I was running Nod32 recently and got a serious virus infection which Nod could not detect. Only McAfee could out of the 5 or 6 different ones I tried…

Bad deal, why pay $25 when you can get similar products for free?

    • -1

Because Norton is taking top honours at independent performance reviews? Maybe?

      • -4

I beg to differ, VB100 tests found it only average, there are better FREE ones: http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/latest_comparative/index

        • If you are going to rely on one site for comparison think again. I can lookup many different sources with many different outcomes. Also tests are conducted daily/monthly/yearly would vary the outcome. And your negative vote is simply unwarranted, this is not a vote on the product whether you like it or hate it.

      • +2

        Mmmm… no it isn't.

It's bloated, slows boot time down to a crawl, way too intrusive with the constant Vista-like pop-ups/dialog boxes and a total resource hog. It's detection rate against spyware/adware is actually below par against many freeware on-demand scanners like Malware Bytes, MSE, Avast and AVG, which is just abysmal.

        http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challeng…
        http://www.eset.com/home/compare-eset-to-competition

Symantec products are good enough for the average user if used to compliment a robust software/hardware firewall combination or other dedicated anti-spyware/trojan/rootkit removers, but on they're own they're just a false sense of security.

    • People buy it because of the Symantec/Norton brand. If you don't like it just don't vote, no need for a neg. It's like negging a deal on expensive branded stuff (eg rolex) because of a lot of cheaper alternative exist. They all have their own market.

This is still a good deal for people that prefer the convenience and user experience offered by Norton 360, granted that some techies may not find it to their taste. I would personally install this in my technophobic parents computer knowing that it offers decent all round protection for their needs without the fuss of installing a few other applications to do the same job.

  • ALthough I think Norton is bloatware this is cheap and useful for those who want an easy to use and install all-in-one solution.

Also bear in mind Norton will give you your money back if you are not happy….

For $25 if you need something like this its worth a go.

  • +3

Norton ahahahaah - install and watch your pc slow down!

    • crapy PC there buddy hahaha

      just kidding :)

it does but i guess it a good way and i think it worth it. it watches and monitor your incoming traffic and scan everything you download (even firefox/chrome) and lets you know if its safe to use.

    • Its just the nature of things. All anti-virus and internet firewalls have a balance between speed and anti-virus efficiency. Either you have a extremely fast virus scanning but a low detection rate and vise verse. I believe there will be some anti-virus software are not what it seems like. Companies like Norton and McAfee must have a good reason not to give their software away for free, otherwise they would be pushed out of the market.

Opinions for different kinds of software really depends on what you need. If you are always using internet banking, then you would not risk using 'free' anti-virus software because who are you going to complain when you discover you are missing $10,000 from you bank account? For those online gamers, a reasonable anti-virus would do most of the job while leaving the computer running fast.

From my experience of using Norton Internet Security for 3 years, it does slow the computer down and the start up is a few seconds longer but I just got use to it and micro managed all applications and services.

Being a patient person, I would guess many of you out there would just throw the mouse or keyboard at the screen while using NAV, NIS or Norton360. Feel free to use other anti-virus that suits you and your computer as there is no law saying you have to follow these bargains.

Finally, do please remember the voting system is for you your opinion on the bargain, NOT the brand of the bargain.

  • Do you need to pay annual lic fee after this? How much does that cost?

  • Good bargain Thanks.Does it make any difference with code?

  • The deal is good if you like Norton's, but if saving money is your goal, use Microsoft Essentials - free, fast, no unusual resource hogging.

If you want a paid option support Australian company ESET and buy NOD32 - one of the best AVs out there.

  • Good deal.
I have been using 360 v2 for 1 year, so far so good.
No problem with cash back, no drama from Symantec.
It is actually free after cash back and tax return.

  • Good Deal. Its cheaper than BigW.

  • Can anyone confirm if $25 is only for one year license?

  • -1

    Sold out

  • Will Wireless re-stock it? I was just about to order 1.

  • Mr. Norton, I wouldn't even accept $25 to install and use your software on three PC's for a year.

  • Less than 10 left it seems so better hurry….
But look on the bright side - seems there's lots of people who won't be fighting you for them
    So be it
