Hyatt, Hotels and Getting Hitched in Hawaii

Hi OzBargain!

We are getting hitched in Hawaii!

But speaking of hitches, we need the help of a true bargain professional!

You see we have decided to stay at one of the Hyatt's, but can't seem to find any good discounts on the hotel. Signed up to be a member, but the discount rate is literally only a few dollars. They are also having a "Stay 4+ Nights Get 1 Free" promo, but the overall price is almost the same as the member rate (think 20% off + 19% on eBay sales :D ). Can't find any valid codes or points offers, yet it is the low season (we must be doing something wrong)?? Can't seem to find any Cash Rewards discounts, nor "CashRewards" equivalents in the US.

By the way, anything else really cool we must see or do whilst we are there?!

Thank you so much in advance, OzB!

You see we have decided to stay at one of the Hyatt's,

So undecide and stay at a place you can afford. When I go to Hawaii I spend like 7 hours a day in the hotel room. So much nicer outside even at night!

They will be on their honeymoon. They will be spending lots of very nice time in the room.

Congratulations! You will have a wonderful time in Hawaii.

Accommodation in Waikiki is generally expensive. Just book wherever you’d like to stay, and you can focus of finding bargains elsewhere. The shopping there is great.

    • Thank you!

    NICE!

We were married on the Big Island and honeymooned across the Hawaiian islands and stayed in the Hyatt Maui, Kauai and Waikiki.
I was a waiter in the Hyatt Sydney at the time and got staff rates of $100-130/night, it was outstanding.

I would say of the two, Kauai was the most outstanding, Maui also impressive. Swimming lagoons extending through the property, parakeets and I think Maui may even have had penguins. Waterslides and beautiful surrounds as well.
Waikiki was really not worth it, it's just a high rise hotel without any particularly standout features.
Just my 2 cents, have a great wedding

    • Waikiki was really not worth it, it's just a high rise hotel without any particularly standout features.

      Second this!
Authentic Hawaiian experience is found on the other islands.
      Also my 2 cents

    • That staff rate is amazing.

The other islands look amazing also :D

Waikiki is very very expensive for accommodation. Been 3 times and in my experience, finding a genuinely "cheap" deal on a 4 or 5 star hotel is pretty much impossible. I think because demand is just so high all year round. There is honestly no real "low season".

Best value for money in the past has been the Hilton Waikiki Beach but their pool area is super windy if you care about that….but you can get around USD 200-250 per night if you book well in advance.

Best 5 star luxury hotel achieved using points + pay for the Royal Hawaiian under the Starwood program. Absolutely stunning hotel.

If you are set on Hyatt I would investigate how to best get points into their loyalty program from any other point programs you have and what your point return ratio is as could be worthwhile.

Other thing to consider is Air BnB/vacation rentals and not staying in Waikiki. If you have a car, there are many other beautiful spots on the Island where you can rent apartments or houses. For me the perfect split is 7/8 nights outside Waikiki and about 3/4 nights in Waikiki.

  • Are you only going to Oahu?

    • Yes, just a short trip

Check your credit cards. Citibank reward cards for example have 15% off Expedia hotel bookings.

    • Thanks, I can only see 10% off with Citibank/Expedia. But 15% off equals about the same as booking direct with the hotel - less the perks of booking direct (e.g. breakfast, parking etc). Would love to see Citibank fund 10 or 15% off the Direct hotel price - that would be awesome and the sort of code I have been searching for.

Have you looked at these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/375344
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/374162, need to use a foreign currency fee free credit card to really make the most of it.

Ive just booked a hotel using the Expedia Mastercard deal, it worked out cheapest cos once you are logged in you can get 10% member discount on quite a lot of hotels dunno bout Hyatt but worked for me with Sebel hotel, then stack the offer on top so you get 22% off. follow the instructions in the deal post.
Another trick is to set up a new booking.com account maybe in your fiances name if they dont already have one and use the referral link from your own account. After you stay you both get $30.
After you book it use booking.com price guarantee to claim the difference on the cheaper rate you found directly, they will refund the difference after your stay. Sometimes they decline to honour at the start but argue and send them a screenshot from the same date you made the booking. Oh and dont forget about cashrewards too.
