Glencairn Whisky Glass 2 for $15 (RRP $10.99 Each) @ Dan Murphy's (Member Offer)

840

Raymond Davidson of Glencairn Crystal took it upon himself to design a glass specifically for the whisky drinker. He invented a unique inward-curved shape glass, allowing the focus of the whisky aromas, encouraging a user to appreciate the 'nose' of the whisky as well as the palate. Today, whilst there are a number of different styles of such glasses available, Glencairn is the first style to be endorsed by the Scotch Whisky Association and it is used by every Whisky company in Scotland and Ireland. A simple innovation that is now the preferred tasting glass for connoisseurs the world over.

        JV g0t sch00led boi!!!

    • +8

For whiskey it's about completely full.

  • Looks more like a rum glas.

    • -8

I think you mean 'rumm glas'

      • +7

        Don't get it.

  • Need to differentiate between whisky and whiskey.

    • +10

      one has an 'e'

    • +7

      Whisky for Scots, Japanese.
      Whiskey for Irish and American.

      • Thanks, never noticed that despite knowing that both spellings existed.

        • +1

Buying alcohol without a good understanding is very wisky.

  • the capacity should be cut in third as the expensive Suvillan Cove will finish in two glasses

  • +5

Anyhow, these are good glasses. Much better than jam jars or swigging straight from the bottle.

    • +4

Definitely enhances enjoyment, the bowl concentrates the aromas whilst pulling your nose high enough to avoid most of the burn from the alcohol vapour.
I'm pretty sure you could emulate pretty closely with a small wine tasting glass for less $, but it's nice to have as a gift.

Significant improvement over a jam jar or regular tumbler.

      • Wait … it pulls on your nose?!

        • Well physically prevents your nose from getting too close, unless you stick the glass over it!

  • Nice find OP, might be my Mother's Day gift :-)

Just saw another one for Whisky Snobs:
Denver & Liely Whisky Glass - $49.99 each!

  • Would these be good for Scotch too? - Dad drinks scotch so though might be an alright gift. (Excuse my ignorance I don't drink spirits :P )

    • +7

      Scotch= Whisky made in Scotland

      so yes.

      • +1

Well - I've learnt something new today :) - Cheers!

  • Cheers OP! Grabbed 2!

  • Just go to whisky events, one of these usually comes free with your ticket

can u recommend which one? i am trying to find one in perth

      • If you sign up with My Dan Murphy's they do hold whisky (amongst others) tastings.

  • +2

I have these but I don't use them really - they're too narrow for my liking.

Maybe they are optimised for Scotch, but you feel prissy drinking from them..

    • +5

They're for whisky appreciation (a nosing glass or snifter). Not really for everyday drinking. So handy for that good bottle you've been keeping for a special occasion.

Standardised glasses are important when comparing different whiskeys - so different glasses don't effect the experience. Drinking for pleasure - it's not so important. But the aroma in this style of glass should improve the appreciation🍷

Taste + Aroma = real appreciation!
Accentuates the aroma - directing it to the nose with the narrow rim. Being a bowl shape, easy to swirl to release aroma.

  • Tempted to give it a try but the glasses I got from Yamazaki's distillery works really well and they are only about $6 each.

    • Plus airfare😀
Will get some & a bottle next trip.

    • They were about $11 each from memory. I was there last month. Amazing place.

Would I be able to fit a can of red bull and a shot of green label into this?

    • Only half a can I reckon.. they're pretty small glasses, but weird choice… Tonic Water would be my preferred mixer… :D

  • Thanks Shibuya, perfectly timed for a b'day present. Bought 6.

  • +1

Fantastic glass. I use this for the intended beverage and also for heavier stouts and porters.

  • Mo'fos I just bought one on Sunday!

  • Thanks OP, bought 4

  • Does it fit around a big snout

Have seen some great looking whiskey glasses, this one is simply fugly.

    • +1

No-se, this one's a Snifter or Nosing glass - designed to release the aroma when tasting good whiskey. It's designed purely for the appreciation of the whiskey, not the appearance of the $7.50 glass🍷

How do these glasses deal with the coke bubbles ;)

    • +1

The tapering towards the top really helps control the head if you pour too vigorously..
These were especially designed for drinking Whisky so they've thought of everything!

    • +1

Ha someone doesn't have a sense of humour….

      • More like someone doesn't think the cheap trolling about mixing Expensive Whisky with Coke is especially funny.
We could make a good double team though…
You throw out the lame troll and I'll come over the top with the witty faux-ignorance retort.
