First submission, so let me know if I should fix anything.

The KitchenAid accessories aren't cheap, but this is the best discount I have seen for them. I picked up the 3 piece pasta roller set, the flex scraper and the grinder.

Would anyone recommend the ice cream bowl? I was considering buying it, although I think it would barely fit in my freezer.

Would anyone recommend the ice cream bowl?

Nope. It takes ages to freeze, then still doesn't seem to be cold enough for most mixes I've tried to get a strong enough consistency which you're racing against time to get in a bowl to quickly eat or freeze.

Using pre-bought Pauls Chocolate Custard worked well. All my other recipe attempts (buttermilk, non-egg, homemade custard style) failed hard. They were too icy, too eggy, too thin. It's really hard to get right. I've never had the hopper (is that what it's called? the plastic bit that stirs it) click like the videos online do when it's done mixing. Even after 20 or so minutes. At that point the bowl has condensation all over the place and I don't think it's going to get any better if I leave it on longer.

I want to try sorbet but am concerned because I don't think the bowl will be cold enough thicken the liquid, like what happened with my plain, non-egg mixture which went slightly icy (even after keeping the bowl in the freezer for days).

Also, the construction of the bowl is not really something you'd expect from Kitchenaid. I really wouldn't expect it to hold up to much use. I'm worried the thin plastic outer casing will separate from the inner metal casing leak.

I got mine for free with the KitchenAid promo but seriously could not recommend it.

Also, side note. Seeing how much sugar goes into ice cream is scary and may scare you off eating it. So if you're addicted to ice cream, it may be worth it as a deterrent.

      • isn't there a difference between the USA and non-USA versions of the ice cream attachemnt? Which do you have?

        • No idea! I didn’t know there was. Is there any way to tell?

          and

Another issue that arises is with the KitchenAid ice cream attachment. European models of KitchenAid mixers have certain EU-mandated safety features so the US-model of the ice cream attachment does not fit or work with European mixers, and vice-versa

But not sure if this is your issue

Funny, my experience has been the opposite. I find the bowl works really well, only once has it gone icey and that was my fault messing up the custard. Just make sure the bowl is well frozen, the custard is chillud and your room isn't hot and it works great.
I just leave mine in the freezer all the time. You are right though about seeing all the sugar going into it

    • I picked up the 3 piece pasta roller set, the flex scraper and the grinder.

These are the 3 I really want to get. Does anybody have experience with these? Especially the grinder and flex edge.

I have the grinder. I no longer buy mince meat. I just pick a nice piece of meat and grind it myself. Its a bit slow but it does the job.

I also just bought the ice cream maker. I hope i dont get the same as you. I am worried about room in my freezer though. Been considering getting a chest frezzer for a while now i think this will push my decision :-)

I use the Flex Edge most of the time with my machine, I find it does a pretty commendable job of mixing down from the sides of the bowl, but it can leave a bit of unmixed mixture at the bottom of the bowl (probably can be mitigated with proper mixing height which I haven’t played with)

  • Does it have an attachment for grinding seeds/powdering rice/grains?

  • Dang, flex beater out of stock. I've only got the bread hook and whisk atm.
