The phone scored an impressive 270,680 on AnTuTu benchmark

So whats the RRP? Where is the bargain? It just got released?

    • If you click the link it shows 20% off, down from USD$908.33.

This link from the newsletter makes the 6GB/64GB version $628.99 US instead of $699.99 US.

  • Aside from the 845 and 8 GB, what makes this such a great phone? LCD screen, old-school design.

Still a generation away (at least) from a genuine gaming mobile, 120 Hz screen or not.

Apparently it has water cooling, although I don't think that's necessary on a phone

      • Maybe not now but it has to start some where. Them phone cpu aren't getting cooler to run the more powerful they become. So i say its only a matter of time before phones too need a different cpu cooler. Passive cooling is not going to cut it anymore.

        • Cooler CPU temps can come from die shrinks to less nm designs

        • @hen dawg: While I don't disagree that die shrinks and less nm design has helped. We are fast approaching a time when we can only make these CPUs so small and continue to have faster CPUs.

Thermal throttling is such a hindrance in performance that to really fully utilise at the absolute maximum for a cpu and gpu for that matter we have to address the heat issues.

Traditional coolers that is passive heatsinks has made way to air cooled units. Which has progressed to water cooled units in PC's. Why not try it on phones?

May not be necessary now. Again. It has to start somewhere.

        • @xoom: fair point

  • Cool new phone, bargain it is not.

And the controller for the left hand only is dumb.

  • Looks hideous…

    razer phone knockoff

Exactly! No Razer logo => no deal!

[that's sarcasm, kids … friends don't let friends buy Razer gear, ever]

One look at the back of the phone and you will never want this phone again.

  • Can I say, this looks like a turd?

So there are gaming phones nowadays…

I won't lie, teenage me thought this was rad.

      • +4

        That's because it was.

      • +3

Ah the N-Gage (first one), who could forget it?

      • It was probably one of the best phones I had until going to my first "smart phone". The taco taking position was its downside, but something I could live with at the time.

Got this bargain ages ago, it's fantastic for SNES/PS1 on the go.

    • Holding out for a gaming smartwatch :P

Is anyone really playing that much candy crush?

  • +2

No Band 28 or NFC, lol.

    128GB ROM

What the hell good is 128GB of memory if it's read-only?

  • @OP a better video is this one - https://youtu.be/2ERnq4c1cNo

A chinese buyer has made an unboxing/overview video and someone has translated it to English with one of those text to speech programs.

  • Great, finally a phone you can play Candy Crush on while waiting to see the doctor.

    • I don't get the doctor part of the joke

  • Worst phone ever.

  • It’s a cool idea to introduce the hardcore gaming concept to mobile phone.

    • Is it though?

      • Not in Australia but it is in China.

        • I think it could be cool…if there were hardcore games to match. But even if smartphones were as powerful as current gaming PCs, smartphones still wouldn't be a good platform for hardcore games because of the limitations of touch screen controls. I think that more powerful hardware will basically only enable better looking versions of the sort of mobile games that currently exist.

        • @mrdavedave: Black Shark were heavily promoting PUBG alongside this phone at announcement. That's the market they're aiming for in China currently.
