Huh? I can buy 1 prawn and it will be serve on a plate?

    • What's the price of King Prawns at Coles etc?

      • Not sure ATM, but I can get really good sized, nice, fresh, local school prawns from the local fishmonger for $13/kg most of the time! :)

        • for really big prawns you could get around 10-15 per kilo.

        • 10 to 15 per kilo only if they're on special I guess.

  • If one prawn is all you want then sure!

Whenever I'm in Indonesia, they have these massive red freshwater prawns (15-20cm long & 2-3cm thick; I'd easily pay a buck for those here if we could get them; but it'd wanna be a bloody good large Aussie Kingy for me to pay a buck each for!!! ;)

  • each!!

  • wow a buck each, they better be pretty bloody big lol. it would be better if they were hot and cooked in some chili sauce or something.

LOL, you do realize that your at woolies with this offer, ALH is woolies.

        • Hi Markis10, Yes ALH is 75% owned by Woolworths but I can assure you that our suppliers are definitely different and these Aussie tiger prawns (from the Gold Coast) are top quality

decent if you ask me, $20 plate of prawns at a pub would probably only have about 10 normally.

    • Fair point indeed! I do agree with nubzy though…if these were cooked or presented as a dish then the deal would be far more…dare I say it…appetising! :)

  • Just how "Aussie" are they really? I heard they arrived on a boat somewhere around Ashmore reef.
More like Aussies intercepted another school of plankton-seekers.

    • Hi Manic, These are top quality Aussie tiger prawns and definitely not imported.

      • Woosh! They are ocean prawns. Penaeus monodon.
Of course most of them are farmed in Asia these days. And unless you are buying them fresh and raw, it would be impossible to tell the difference.
I suppose a supplier might think he could get away with calling them "Aussie" since the species is found in Australian waters. Whereas calling them "Product of Australia" might risk a fine if they are farmed.
The word "Aussie" has about as much legal protection as the word "large". At $1 these is no way these are large.

How can you really know where they come from, Mr Rep.? You work for Kailis?

        • Hi Manic, You are correct, these are Penaeus Monodon, also known as Black tiger prawns. Our supplier is Gold Coast Tiger Prawns as identified on our marketing material. More information on the product is available on their website.

  • there is a venue in pymble offering the "top quality aussie tiger prawns" which is close to where i live.but i do wanna have a look at the size and the quality first before i order or leave. however, has anyone done this before: walking into a hotel, ask/look for where the prawns are. after saying a few times "hello", "how is going"etc, and realise the prawns are not that good, and then leave the hotel…

  • yeah pymble is near me too. its not a very tempting offer to me though, its not that cheap and i'd rather hot prawns with some condiments or cooked in a sauce or something.
