The QC range of Bose are not designed to work without power, so of course it sounds much worse without the ANC on.

      • -5

It has power.. in the form of a battery.

With or without ANC, it sounded bad. What made it not totally suck was the usefulness of ANC. If you take that away and all you're left with is the flat sound, all you're paying for is the brand. When I listened to the QC20, it was only when it was noisy and I needed the ANC. If it wasn't noisy, cheaper earphones sounded much better than those.

  • Only compatible with Apple devices?

    • +3

Probably means just the remote buttons. Not sure how it plugs in to devices as that end of the headphones is obscured in the photos… probably 3.5mm at this price point, meaning most Apple devices are incompatible.

      • probably 3.5mm at this price point, meaning most Apple devices are incompatible

Sounds pretty courageous. Explains the discount.
Back in my day, you could buy high-end headphones and expect them to outlast the devices you're plugging them in to.

Good price OP. Huge Bose fan but I bought the Soundtrue Sport a while back and found the silicone flanges would cause the IEMs to sit awkwardly in my ears, disrupting the seal and thereby increasing ambient noise and decreasing sound quality.

    • These aren’t designed to go into the war like IEMs. They’re more like the old traditional earphones , similar to the EarPods etc.

  • This is obsolete as apple no longer produces phone with 3.5mm jack. I expect the price would come down even further. Might be worthwhile to buy now if you have a credit card offers price protection

    • +2

This is still quite relevant for those with Apple phones WITH headphone jacks (i.e. iPhone 6s and earlier), not to mention the iPhones without headphone jacks come with an adaptor cable. But I agree, sooner or later it may become a lightning cable connector if it remains marketed for Apple

Good reminder as to why I should keep using my iPhone 6 Plus.

Good reminder on why you should now make the switch to Android ;)

        • +4

@montorola: Some of those are sans-3.5mm also. Pixel 2 is an example. Google made fun of Apple for removing the jack when they showed the Pixel 1. Now they just look like big hypocrites.. and copycats.

          @lostn:

I'm not saying that Apple don't execute better - because clearly they often do - but literally everything Apple has done in the last 10 years was on Android first: fingerprint unlock, face unlock, notification shade, multitasking, NFC payments, mobile hotspot, voice commands, full screen display with notch, no headphone jack (Oppo, Motorola, LeEco), phablets, mini tablets, turn-by-turn navigation, etc, etc.

It's pointless saying either is a copycat. The first iPhone aside - which was truly revolutionary and obviously much copied - Apple has been a follower ever since.

        • +3

I feel the general consensus on how Apple goes about things like this is they usually take the Toyota approach and only add features to their products once they have been proven outside of Apple (Copy & Paste, Third Party Keybords, NFC, Wireless Charging) and usually when Apple does bring a feature to its devices, it implements it well. They also have the foresight (most of the time) to kill off or never implement certain features because it can cause them to die by not embracing them or because they will be superceeded soon. Apple never including Blu-Ray in the macs is one example.

It's OK to be a copycat. But not if you first poke fun at the person you're copying for doing what you're copying. And yes, I understand Apple has been guilty of doing the same thing (phablets, 16:9 screens, styluses). Most of these were Steve Jobs doing the fun poking, and Tim Cook doing the copycatting after Jobs passed away. I suspect Steve would have stuck to his guns if he were still around.

It makes you look bad when you use the headphone jack as a selling feature, take a jab at your competitor in the process for removing it, and then do an about face a year later and admit without saying it, "you know they were right after all". That's just embarrassing. Apologize and admit you got it wrong, or stick to your guns, or… don't take a jab at your competitor for doing something you potentially will end up doing yourself. And let's be honest, I don't think Google would have ever removed the headphone jack if Apple didn't do it first. It really did take "courage" to be the first to do it, though not in a good way.

          Copy & Paste

Wow. What was their argument against C&P?

Apple never including Blu-Ray in the macs is one example.

No one includes Blu-rays. Most PCs don't even include optical drives of any sort anymore. Apple can't take credit for that.

and usually when Apple does bring a feature to its devices, it implements it well.

tbf, the things you listed are not things that are easy to screw up. Copy & paste. You either have it or you don't. Wireless charging, NFC same. They either work or they don't. What they did screw up is finally including fast charging in their iPhone but not providing the cable or the charger needed to use it. And then charging a lot if a customer wants to buy them… That, I wouldn't call implementing it well. That's just fleecing the customer.

        • @melbourne guy: Interesting point about Blu-ray and macs - just triggered a thought that Apple heavily relies on services (iTunes, Music, Apps etc.), so supporting physical media might be a cannibalisation of one of its major revenue streams. Removing the ability to read physical media also gives them the ability to promote iCloud and device integration, not to mention more marketing data they can work with). There might also be the small marketing issue of "we have the slimmest, most portable laptops in the business".

@montorola: Haha..nah, will keep using what I have till it breaks or starts being unusable.

        • @dazweeja: Copyin is one thing.. but I think in lostn's comment, the emphasis is on making fun of something and adapting the same in the very next upgrade 😜.. Surely it happens at many places where they think something is bad and then change the mind few years down the line. But this one was within a year in the very next Upgrade…

        • @lostn:
          @thriver:

Fair point ;) Doing the same thing within a year is as close to admitting that Apple was actually right as you're going to get… without actually admitting that Apple was right.

        • @lostn:

Now they just look like big hypocrites.. and copycats.

Most idiots have short memories, destined to repeat their mistakes.

      • Can’t you just use the adapter that came in the box? Just leave it on the end of the cable.

    • This is obsolete as apple no longer produces phone with 3.5mm jack.

These earphones are not courageous enough to adorn an Apple device.

  • The coupon code doesn't work - says it's not ready. Any ideas?

    • +3

That's strange it says it starts at 10am…

    • +1

      Starts at 10

      • +1

        Ah - LOL - thanks

Bought this a while ago and around the same price and in general they are ok. They sound great other than the fact there is poor audio separation when you listen to things its hard to distinguish between the vocals and the bass. I would still use my earpods on a daily over these.

  • +1

eww .. pick your own ear

  • -2

Unless the price is dirty cheap, I'll not purchase any corded earphone, just in case one day I'd have to use a seperate device to drive it, either an old mobile or an awkward adptor.

  • +1

Bought 2 of these over the last year. Excellent all rounder, good isolation, wings keep the buds in place very well, good sound, sweat proof, $79 is a great price for these.

    • Is it works on Android?

      • +1

        yes

      • -4

No. Blackberry only I think. Might work on Windows phone, not sure.

        • No love for Maemo and Sailfish?

      • The volume up and down will not work but the play, pause does work when using an the apple headphones on a Samsung S8.

  • Can you use MYER gift cards for MYER EBay purchasers?

    Thank you.
