LIFX + Smart Light Bulb A19 with Night Vision
My $2 light bulb from the Reject Shop also has night vision when I turn it on…
Weird concept - light up your house so everyone else with an infrared camera can see inside…?
I think it's so your webcam can see your house without visible light being turned on
Yeah I understand its purpose but as a security feature I'm not sure how effective it would be….
If you put the bulb outside and had the camera inside it would be handy, as the IR light always reflects against glass.
@marquise: How would it be handy if it was reflecting?
@marquise: How would it be handy if it was reflecting?
@Diji1: I currently have a xiaofang sitting inside the house next to door facing out through the glass. When it's dark the IR light comes on and reflects against the glass, so can't really see anything. If the lifx IR bulb was outside I would change the setting on the camera so the IR light wouldn't come on and that would fix the problem.
@marquise: or get an external camera
@asa79: Yeah considering putting the xiaofang outside, but more complicated to wire it up. Any other cheap recommendations?
@marquise: are these bulbs waterproof and weatherproof?
Most cameras turn on a special IR cut mode when they turn IR lights on and you generally can't turn on one without the other. Not sure how you'll fare in this scenario but please report if you try it.
The last time I looked inside a house with an infrared camera, this is what happened.
I was previously assured, multiple times, that the Lifx bulbs were better value than the Xiaomi Bulbs, I'm not seeing it…
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/5808584/redirFor what it's worth the LIFXs have much better colour rendering. If you set a Xaiomi RGB bulb to warm yellow or orange you're going to actually get a green tinge. It's pretty fustrating trying to nail it down to an acceptable warm colour. Once you notice it you can't un-notice it.
I have to disagree with you there, just tested my Xiaomi Lights, I have 2 V1 RGB bulbs, 1 RGB Strip & 1 RGB Bedside lamp and don't have that issue.
Try with colour temperature under white settings, right in the middle is a really warm orange and slightly either side a warm yellow.
Also, under scene pick 'Romantic Evening'Hope that helps.
Forget this if you want reliability.
Have their been complaints about the reliability of the Xiaomi one? I haven't seen them. Plus, for the price you could buy 5 of them.
Agree, I have the 4 Lifx colour and it keeps resetting, I need to go the setup process again to connect it to my Wifi.
If you want anything reliable, you are better off with a system that has its own hub and not directly connected to you WiFi router. Ie z-wave or ZigBee (Philips Hue)
I have a few of these, I use them outside they are much brighter than the incandescent floodlights. They work well with Google Home. I did have connectivity issues prior to upgrading my wifi with Google Wifi mesh.
The kicker is I paid only $40 each around December time - I tried to submit the deal here, but Lifx store was banned at the time for sockpuppetting.
Can someone explain why would you want to buy these over something similar like the new xiaomi yeelight 2?
LIFX have bayonet B22 and E27 screw type, Xiaomi only have E27, you will need a converter if you only have a B22 lights. I have both and the price difference is not worth it.
I have to agree. I loved LIFX when they first came out but since the chinese alternatives are a fraction of the price its a no brainer. LIFX is of course much better quality but that much better?…probably not
The referral link will give 10% off but I'm not sure if they will stack.
Personally I'm waiting for GU10 to go on sale someday (or a good gift card hack to get them via JB)
