    Does that include insurance ?

  • 7 days from bne to syd is pretty good. But adding in insurance would probably negate the deal.

    $1,000 bond/excess? Tell em he's dreamin'

    • Actually in the Terms and conditions under 'Relocations/Short term rentals':
      1.1(but I think they meant 18.1?(i)It says $2000 bond?

    • -1

Ever hired a car before? Normally 3K

      • +1

Incorrect you don't pay a bond to hire a car

      • Maybe a Ferrari, not a pos

  • Availability? How many people could book this headlined trip?

  • -6

    Hi JV,

The $1000 security bond is to cover minor damage and refunded at dropoff in Sydney.

The additional insurance coverage is outlined in the Terms & Conditions

    Cheers,
    Maxi

How about being upfront and tell us the charges for the additional insurance instead of getting us to read the whole page of t&cs which doesn't tell us what we want to know.

If the rental costs $1 but insurance costs $80, does this make it a deal? No.

        Clearly you haven't.

Why? It has nothing to do with my original comment.

        • @Maverick-au: basically, JV is saying that the OP is at fault because he didn’t put “only 4 available” in the post.

Website looks like it cost $20 and mobile phone number is business number.

    • Possibly more interested in campervans than websites. Re phones, why wouldn’t u prefer a mobile?

      • Because usually a landline means a physical office with a phone that cannot be turned off.

Because usually a landline means a physical office with a phone that cannot be turned off.

Maybe 20 years ago it did but now you don't know where a number terminates or diverts. I have a "landline" number and 1300 number and both terminate on mobiles.

        • @Maverick-au: good point :)
Still a landline make it sounds more like a serious business to me.

I agree, a 1300 number has a minimal cost and looks so much more professional.

  • i dunno.

I didn't read all the Terms and Conditions, but they do seem a bit odd:
    Terms and conditions:
    Use of the vehicle:
You and any authorized driver must not:
4.1(i) drive the Vehicle outside City and Town limits between dusk and dawn

    • +2

Tourists (and majority of city based Aussies) don't appreciate the risks from animal strikes during this time. I can understand why they'd include a clause like this.

  • +2

I like to use imoova.com.au for this kind of thing.

  • +1

I would prefer it if they kept my CC details on file in case of an accident rather then forking out 1k upfront and waiting a week for it to go back into my account after dropping it off. Didn’t know about the $80 insurance though.

    • That method is going to get the business screwed out of money they are owed at some point.

Even if you put a $1 deposit there are multiple ways to make sure they can't bill your card for $500 if you damage it.

  • -1

does it include a mobile cook

    • Two.

Scroll down to the second picture on the link

      • +1

I assumed they were bed warmers not mobile cook, thank you jv

You can hire a 3fd party travel insurance for a fraction of the cost. On my last relocation I used 1Cover

  • You can normally get insurance through your travel insurance which is typically a lot cheaper than what rental companies charge. Just in case anyone was thinking of taking up this deal and was after something cheap.

No you can't, what you get is excess protection. If insurance is not included you have to take it out when you hire.

And note that some budget travel insurance will make you take out all the optional excess reduction before they will pay out.

  • Will probably cost more then $200 in fuel

  • $1000 upfront makes it not a deal, might be a bond but there is no need for it. Rental car companies don't do it

    • $1000 upfront makes it not a deal, might be a bond but there is no need for it. Rental car companies don't do it

Why? Not everyone lives paycheck to paycheck.

    • Yes they do, in the form of a hold on your credit card.

  • Dishonest. Disclose extra fees and insurance up front.

  • +5

Won't do that again: last time I had a one-way flight and one night accommodation in Brisbane all paid for. One day before my trip I was told, sorry car isn't available anymore - as outlined in their conditions they reserve the right to rent that car out to anyone paying full price. If you've made travel arrangements you're stuck with the costs and no car to drive.

Was this with Travelwheels, or another relocator (and a general comment)? Wondering who to avoid.
