One day i will buy Raspbery Pi board. Til then i will keep collecting the spare parts…

Many years later, you shall build it and it will be glorious!

      • Provided if i end up buying the board..

        • First you get all the accessories, then you buy the board.

I have a cooktop, oven, sink and cabinet handles in my garage for the day I buy my own place.

        • @ascent send me a pm. I will send you one of my many boards, so you can experience the Pi.

        • @cnut: considering how long delivery can be for some of these items it makes sense to order ahead. if you get the 3b+ it will probabaly be from a local supplker and arrive fast …. so get those heat sinks into a parcel.

  • Thanks Askhole, another for the collection.

  • Now the PiHole won't overheat

How necessary are these for everyday use without over clocking? I've tried googling and there seems to be different views as to whether pis need cooling.
So far I've got a pi running Hass and it doesn't seem to get too warm. I've just bought a second for US$28 after one of the recent deals and I'm looking at building a Plex/Kodi music server and pihole, which might need a bit more oomph than Hass.

    • I am running my pi2 as plex server for my aac music file easily.

    • Recommended if running retro pi psx games etc overclocking

Also keeping chips cool means they won't burn out as quickly

    • You don't need this. I was running games on the rasPi for hours on end and watching videos and never got too hot to touch.

    • I don't think additional heatsinks are necessary on a Pi2, but they are on a Pi3.
I used a much larger heatsink than the bargain above on my Pi3.

Rather than double sided tape, HY910 is much better. from ebay

  • Not sure what to do with my RPi2,, retired it from the TVMediaPlayer job a few months ago in favour of a $40 Amlogic S905X based box.

I did the same (S912 box though).

Maybe something in the PI Mags can spark your interest.
      PI Mag 50

      • Thanks for sharing the link. I noted people discussing firmware issues with S912 hence, stayed on S905x, which has been okay but manages to lose sight of the network after being on for a day and has to be restarted. How's s912?

        • +1

The S912s run hot. I knew that going in so I ordered a heatsink and HY910 which arrived before the s912 so I was ready to mod it the second it arrived.

I got the mecool m8s pro L (needs to have the L).

Which has the copy protection stuff and can play netflix at 1080p which is perfect for the other TV in the kids room. It is playing content of the NAS with no worries.
The dual band wifi works great with my dual band AP/Router but only has 1 wall and about 12m (ish) to travel.
I have it dual booting the stock android (for netflix) and libreelec kodi for NAS content.

It can play stuff off the NAS in 4k.

On the 1080p TV i just downloaded and played the jellyfish-110-mbps-hd-hevc.mkv and it ran perfectly. (I can't remember what is H265 in my library).

The heat sink still gets warm.

Woah, Chile produces nearly a third of the world's copper!
