Ford Falcon (2004) Bootlid Punctured

I met with an unfortunate accident of bumping onto a metallic fire extinguisher case which puncture the boot lid. Would like to know what are the options as well as the approximate cost of repair? Car is a 2004 model. Thanks!

This won't help long term but at least for now, while you figure out your options, I'd go to Bunnings and get yourself some Sikaflex in a tube and seal her up so your boot doesn't become a pool!

      Or duct tape at least.

      • Cut and polish, should buff right out.

If anyone here says anything other than the same answer from there I’d be surprised.

      Ie purchase bootlid from wreckers.

    • nice find……..

    • Perfectly decent answers too.

The repair would be worth more than the car, go to the wreckers and buy a new boot lid.

    • swap car for ex taxi ford falcon, will have good boot.

      • except for the screw holes for the bootlid billboard.

        • Use it to advertise ozbargain

        • @tuzii: step 3: profit.

  • Did you ever source one from the wreckers?
    :PPPPP

    • agreed, its about $80

Cost of a boot lid and labour to install.

If you want the colour to match, cost of painting if you can't find a boot lid matching in your colour.

There is no other 'easy' way to fix it.

I mean if you don't want it to look pretty, just get someone to weld a bit of sheet metal in there to keep it watertight!

Or the other super cheap option is duct tape and replace every month or so.

  • This is a fairly common car. surely you can find the same bootlid from a car being wrecked for spares? You might even be able to find one in the same colour too (saves you having to get it painted).

Fit a rear spoiler to cover the hole, and would improve high speed stability too.

Otherwise tap it back near flat, dress off the paint and apply a fibreglass filler.

Or buy an OUCH! Sticker to cover to hole.

Punctured bootlid on a 2004 Falcon. Total economic loss. It would cost you more to repair it than what a complete replacement Falcon would cost you.

Since you already asked on Whirlpool and got plenty of answers there, then I guess you are fishing for something else. So, in the true spirit of OzB, what you need to do is seek a lawyer and find out if there is a way to take the fire extinguisher box to court. You should have made a post about it not having insurance or that it had insurance and now the box is refusing to take responsibility for damaging your car…

As a question for OP, what were you hoping to find out here that you didn’t get from Whirlpool?

    • +2

OzBargain may suggest OP could park in a loading zone, hoping a $80k high yielding car might run into the back of them.

probably end up with bikies fighting and damage the bonut though.

  • I'd try to straighten it out as much as possible, seal it with some silicone and color it in with touch up paint/texta/nail polish.

  • Add more and market them "speed holes".

Ford Falcon - just drive it to wreckers and leave it there

  • Cover it with this.
