I found this is the best deal for Nikon D7000. Not grey import, Australian Stock with local warranty. Shipping is $19, or you can pick up from their Brisbane showroom:
Suite 607, Level 6, 180 Queen St (Located in Queen St Mall, in the Country Road building)

Other two deals from Nikon authorized dealers:
$1479 including 8GB memory card http://www.digitalfunstuff.com.au/prod973.htm
$1488.85 incluing one camera bag http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=D7000B… (use PAYPAL2010 at checkout to get free shipping)

Updated on 11/1/2011
I forgot to mention you can get 3% money back through moneybackco for RYDA purchase. After $44.67 cash back, the total comes to $1444.18 including one lowepro camera bag plus free shipping. It turns out RYDA is the best deal.

  • Nice, thanks.

  • Yes, that's a damn good buy! Might be finally time for me to bite the bullet and upgrade my D90.

$1450 is a far cry from the up to $1999 some retailers were charging less than a month or so ago (http://clubduh.com/blog/2010/10/12/australian-nikon-d7000-pr…).

$1450 is a pretty good price but it has been around that for a while. Digital camera warehouse is $1485 also with $19 delivery or pick up from their Brisbane/Melbourne/Sydney store http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category95_1.htm. They come with one year Nikon warranty but their extended warranties are quite good value.
    1 Year Warranty $55
    2 Year Warranty $70
    3 Year Warranty $85
    4 Year Warranty $99

    • some credit cards give free extended warranties which is also quite good

    thats excellent value!! BIG PLUS

  • I thought it was D700… My bad… Almost consider to get one :-)

  • That is so good!
I got mine from citiwide online (grey import) for $1319.

    • The grey market appears to be maturing such that some reputable players are offering real warranties with two-way freight costs included. However given this is over the AUD$999 threshhold of GST-free 'importing' I'm happier to pay slightly more for local warranty, local shop-front and no risk of GST add-on with big customs processing fee (?? $200??).

I heard HN's Gerry Harvey on Radio National again this morning complaining about lack of GST on grey imports. The 1/11 GST saved is often levelled out by freight costs - so I think GST is a furfy. This retailer coalition should be leveraging their combined market-share on manufacturers to lower the Australian wholesale prices. Or else just adapt to the lower margins of on-shore or off-shore retailers with minimal or no shop-front and thus minimal customer service over-heads.

Great deal. Buy the D7000 - you wont be disappointed!! :)

    • has the hot pixel problem been solved?

cause the press release from Nikon after the firm ware update seems to suggest its solved but they sort of wont guarantee its 100% fixed for legal reasons.

any feedback from people who actually have installed the new firmware?

      • I haven't done the update yet. Ill do it on wednesday after work. I did have a few hot pixels. If anyone wants to try it now, the link is http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17108/kw…

It seems that you may have to run it twice for it to work. I'll let you guys know tomorrow if it worked.

        • I thought I'd give it a go today and tried just a little while ago - couldn't do it as the battery wasn't charged enough. Tried to charge it just then for 15 min but still no go. I'm off to sleep :(

        • I've done it. It worked great.

      • I just did it as well. I had to do it twice for it to work. Pretty happy with the results. I had a few now there is only 1 stuck pixel - its in an out of the way place. I might run the patch again and see if it will fix it but I don't know if I can be bothered as I couldn't even see the other ones in video or pics. The only way I could see them was if I had the lens cap closed.

    • dd are grey importers

  • Thanks for this post - the day after I finally decided that this is the model I want to buy as my entry to DSLR (or re-entry from SLR film world).

I had been thinking about grey market Citiwide @ $1,210 +freight - but as I live in Brisbane and have OS travel in early Feb (i.e. GST refund at airport via TRS) this looks like it could be it. (Though it will be interesting to see how Union Shopper respond!).

Is there anywhere else that sells these that should try to price-beat this? I don't think OW or DSE carry this model.

    • Given I'm buying this for work - self-employed - is there any advantage or disadvantage in using TRS refund of GST rather than just claiming the GST credit via my BAS??

Low-cost quality lens suggestions for this….???

I'm looking at a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D prime lens to go with it. Am I correct in my understanding that the D7000 does have an autofocus motor on-board to drive the AF on this lens?

After out-lay on the camera, the prime lens is all that I can afford for the moment - not wanting to waste great camera on a crappy kit lenses. However the need for accessories for this endeavor will help clarify birthday and Christmas choices for the next couple of years!

Interesting that Camera Pro list their Nikon lenses as being Australian stock - even though my understanding is that Nikon offer international warranty on their lenses - such that for lenses zero warranty problems in buying grey market lenses (unless there are issues with 'white-box models' (i.e. kit lenses that have been pulled out of the box when a retailer has sold a body only.)

    • I am using a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D lens now, it can be autofocus on D7000.
Nikon 35mm f/1.8 AF-S is also a fast and inexpensive lens. Both lens can produce quality photo in low-light without flash.

    • yeah im pretty sure lens has international warranty an body only has regional warranty

my main concern with grey lens is where the lens are sourced from…. Im not saying that the sellers are dodgy, but make sure you can be verified by nikon that they will fix lens sold by the respective seller

ie, I brought some Nikon gear off a HK grey item seller, when the lens came in, I noticed that the items aren't even from nikon HK but like europe or Japan…. so it can be hard to get them to go through with the warranty because its source from some where else since seller is HKD and stock is Europe/Japan

  • Try and price match that with Michaels camera in melbourne.
Do a search in whirlpool and try to get hold of Cameron.
They seems to be very competitive.
    Good luck.
