Pretty good price for 5lb of Optimum Nutrition Whey.

What's it to you to give a shit what other people do?

    • +24

"Artificially pump themselves up" or "get stronger and healthier by lifting more and giving your body the nutrients it needs"?

    • +2

Herodotus looked to be pretty ripped if his statues are anything to go by

      https://www.worldatlas.com/r/w728-h425-c728x425/upload/2d/73…

    • I surf and pump myself up. Cant beat a good froth and pump

      • +1

Agreed. I love pumping out froth as well.

    • Girls and boys!

  • Oh.. should've bought this. Bought 10lb of extreme milk choc, when i could've bought 5 and 5 of extreme milk and vanilla creme.
My order was delivered quite fast also, think it was 3 days.

  • Any flavour recommendations?

    • choc coconut…yummy

    • +1

Cookies and cream is probably my favourite. Extreme milk choc is good also, as is rocky road (if you don't mind a bit of cherry taste)

    • Extreme milk chocolate and chic malt is quite good

    • Extreme milk choc ftw.

  • +1

How does this compare to badger milk?

    • +22

A serving of this is much less dangerous to collect.

    • Cattle are more docile and easier to exploit, with large outputs. There's nothing special about bovine milk (apart from it being ideally suited to baby calves) over other mammalian milks except simple economics.

      Whey

      • -3

Simply incorrect information. Like you might expect on a Tumblr blog.

        • Really? Please fill us all in.

    • I find beaver milk much more satisfying.

  • Is this pre workout??

    • +2

      It's just whey protein.

    • +1

      Nope, it's a protein shake

    • +9

Cocaine is a good alternative to preworkout

      • +3

        To everything

        • +1

He's not lying, I've started using cocaine instead of sugar in my coffee and it's much better now.

        • @F-22:

I use happy butter instead of harmful plain butter. Every morning I hear and see thousands of angels singing for me. It makes my day every single time.

    • CELLUCOR C4 seems to be the most popular pre workout supplement. Can't give a review as am yet to try it.

      • Just drink a shot of coffee, don't waste your money in pre-work outs

        • Copy that.

  • +1

    Any recommendations on flavours?
I've always taken Optimum Nutrition but always stuck to either Vanilla or Chocolate.

    • I've had coffee recently and the only way I could drink it was mixing it with soymilk. Anything else just didn't work but all in all I quite enjoy the taste!

    • Rocky road is quite good.

    • strawberry is pretty good - use full cream milk if you want it to taste like the mcd stuff

    • I've tried - many years ago, strawberry and rocky road.

Starberry had a really artificial taste. I can't quite remember but it was either okay with milk and bad with water - or the other way around.

Rocky road i thought was amazing the first few shakes I had, and then absolutely hated it. Way too sweet and artificial. Had a marshmallow choc taste.

I just stick to double rich choc these days - much prefer it over extreme milk choc too. Too scared to experiment with other brands and flavours - ends up being a lot of unenjoyable shakes.

  • +1

Why do the good deals always use sucralose as the sweetener?

Stevia tastes far nicer to me. Used to buy True Protein, but they seem to have stopped giving us nice deals.

    • The ON 'Naturally Flavoured' version is this but uses Stevia. Not particularly cheap though.

    • It doesn't go on special much but balance 100% Whey is made with stevia as the sweetner it also doesn't contain any strange ingredients like some other brands. And I've used the chocolate one and it is definitely sweet enough. I would recommend mixing with water as with milk it becomes a bit too sweet. And it isn't as cheap as this deal but for what it is it is priced very reasonably. Product link

  • Having a hard time deciding whether to go with Double Rich Choc or Extreme Milk Choc. Any suggestions? (I only mix with water, not milk, and I'll also use it in smoothies with ice, almond milk, peanut butter and a couple other things.)

    • Both sound not selling

    • +1

Double choc is very palatable with just water

      • Thanks, went with double choc

        • No worries, haven't tried extreme milk choc so couldn't comment on that, cookies and cream tastes absolutely revolting though.

        • If it's any consultation I much prefer double rich over extreme milk

    • Extreme milk chocolate better

    • extreme choc milk. the taste is not as strong as the name makes it sound to be.

  • +2

Will I look "Swollen" if I consume this product after partaking in some strenuous activity?

    • How long does it take to get these inflammations?

    • +5

There are little blue tablets that can help you swell up which may be more effective

  • +4

Should really buy BN, these guys had a lawsuit against them for using filler. Wouldn't trust.

    • +2

Wow didn't know that. ON is a mix of Isolate (more refined and faster absorbing Whey) and Concentrate (poorer version of Whey).

And given they don't provide a ratio, you could assume that its mostly concentrate. In which case, the prices from Bulk Nutrients is much better.

Only issue is that The ON product tastes quite a bit better to me. Even still, I'll stick to my BN protein.

EDIT: So the small print states "With high quality whey protein isolate making up a majority of the formula and whey protein concentrate secondary…"

      1. Interesting that the product is sold as 'isolate' but clearly it isn't completely isolate.
      2. I take the word 'mostly' in the above statement to mean 51% isolate /cynical.
    • +1

      What’s bn?

      • +2
      • +1

Bulk Nutrients. Pretty much the official ozbargain source for protein as its decent quality and cheap.

        • Tastes pretty shit tho, better to get myprotein when there is a deal.

        • Cue BN jumping in with a counter deal. Possibly a good opportunity. BN is great!

        • @rover100: no way mp is better… Mp is the worst ive ever had.

I want to buy with bn again but they don't have discount code no more

        • @rover100: Have you tried the chocolate honeycomb? It's pretty damn good in my opinion.

        • @Rysta:

Choc honeycomb was filthy when i tried it this year,

I cant even get through it i might just buy another.

        • @Jofzar: Odd, was it the PM+ or a different one? Maybe I just have terrible taste.

        • @Rysta:

Yeah it's decent, but myprotein flavour is better if you get the right ones.

        • @hippyhippy:

They already sell at really low profit margins and no your tastebuds are fked.

    • Will place an order with BN next time they have a deal, which are rather infrequent unfortunately

    • ON used amino acid spiking to increase protein content a LONG time ago, back then everyone in the industry was doing it too. They've since addressed it. Should note there are benefits of consuming a blend as oppose to straight isolate…This product is probably comparable to BN Protein Matrix but ON does taste better and better instantised/mixes better (I also find their digestive enzymes work better than other brands).

  • +3

    Nutrition Information (per 100g)

    Protein 77.4g
    Fats 4.8g (1.6g sat)
    Carbs 12.9g
    Sugar 3.2g

To be honest, I don't find these numbers to be particularly great. You can buy cheaper WPC from Bulk Nutrients or VPA and get similar numbers, or buy their WPI products and get much better output.

    • +1

Agreed. The only thing going for ON is their taste. Admittedly, they do taste good straight out of the bag. The flavors used in Bulk are a little yuk IMHO.

      • +3

Well yeah, 16.1% carbs in a protein shake does taste pretty nice

        • Yeah good point actually.

      • +1

I've been buying from VPA lately - they typically have a freebie on Tuesdays and Fridays, sometimes it's a 1kg bag of some lower-spec protein type, not something I would pay for but it's a freebie! Flavours are okay for me, vanilla is #1, sweet for my palette.

    • +1

+1 I personally go for whatever is cheapest per kg. Normally WPC on sale from MyProtein for $16/kg which I'm happy with.

  • +1

This Protein gave me immense headaches when I used it, read up and it seemed to be something to do with the sweetener used. The headaches were so bad it Made me Switch to rice and pea protein for about a year but I got tired of the duller flavours and switched to Mushashi, which fortunately have been ok so far.

    • +16

They sent you something free which you didnt like, and you then complained about it?

      • -2

That is a package deal and they gave me the option of flavors when I made the purchase.

        • +2

I don't remember seeing this number of unreasonable neg votes in a while…

xiaozaocha is saying that he had the option to choose the flavour and the flavour was wrong. If that is a small or a giant reason depends on who is buying but I think that's a reason to complain even it that's "FREE", because nothing is really free and we consider gifts when buying stuff.

If you go to eBay you find a lot of deals with "free" gifts, some of them you can choose the flavour or size (t-shirt), etc.
I there are two sellers offering the same whey for the same price, but one of them has a free t-shirt, I might choose this one because of the gift. Therefore, if I can choose the size of my t-shirt (LARGE) and they send a XXXSSS or XXXLL instead, that is a problem because I made my decision considering the LARGE t-shirt.

I believe the described "terrible" experience is not only based on the mistake but also the way how the seller managed the problem.

Similarly, if you buy a car and they give you the official black mats and P98 full tank "for free", you won't be happy if they give you green mats and P91 petrol instead. That's part of the deal for God's sake!

Some people woke up in a very bad mood today with all these negs. I recommend you go to the gym, relax, do some meditation and have a good night's sleep.

        • +1

xiaozaocha had every right to leave a neg for this deal, he felt his previous experience warranted the neg and the vote guidelines allow for it. Though he probably could have been a little clearer on his reasons in his initial comment.

However, other members have every right to feel that the reasons for leaving the neg was not enough to warrant a negative vote and enough of them down-voted his comment that the neg was automatically removed.

It's the best way of having checks and balances in an open forum such as this.

No one was in a bad mood and it wasn't personal against xiaozaocha.

        • @tderevko: Agree, but maybe he shouldn't have used the word "free"

        • +1

          @tderevko:

Thx buddy. It was my responsibility that I did not describe the situation clear.

The item I purchased was like this one listed in their ebay store
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gold-Standard-100-Whey-by-Optimu…

They gave me the option to pick the flavor and did not send the exact product I choose. During the contact with seller, their attitude was quite cold as well.

Yes, my negative rating was to the seller not the product. I am a fan of ON protein.. had consumed at least 50lbs…

        • @Chridim: my bad:)

  • +1

I was allergic to this brand, used less than half the container.

  • -1

Thanks. This is great whey protein that works well for me. Cheapest price by far!

  • Bought. Thanks OP.

  • -4

Hm, if you're looking to spend $7 more on a better product I believe not filled with crap, try this: Now Foods, Sports, Whey Protein Concentrate, Natural Unflavored, 5 lbs (2268 g) - https://au.iherb.com/pr/Now-Foods-Sports-Whey-Protein-Concen…

    Why, compared to this product?
    + Concentrate not isolates
    + No artificial flavours
    + No sucralose
    + No artificial sweeteners
    + No maltodextrin
    + No modified food starch
    + No dipotassium phosphate
    + No acesulfame potassium

It's unflavoured, so you need to add it with other things like coconut water, oat milk, banana etc.

  • I have been using PureProduct whey protein from Ebay. Heard a lot about the gold standard. Is it better than the pureproduct?

  • are the coffee or choc mint flavours any good?

  • -2

Not THAT cheap when compared to other brands e.g. BulkNutrients and MyProtein (especially when on sale). Here you're paying ~$29/kg. BN sells ~$27/kg without sale. Look out for Myprotein sales - i got protein for ~$16/kg at one point

    • doesnt delivery kill the deals on MP?

    • -1

i got protein for ~$16/kg at one point

That one point was which previous century again?

      • Was a boxing day sale i believe - they occasionally do sales though. With ON, you're really just buying the brand.

  • Has anyone tried Kaged Muscle Re-Kaged? By far the best post workout protein I have ever had..

  • +3

I ditched O.N Gold Standard after they took out the good stuff/changed the ingredients.
Have you noticed that almost every site that sells O.N have taken down the ingredients picture. Why?
Because they took out "Aminogen" (Google it, I dare ya) and added sugar.
Check reviews on Amazon on the "Change"
I have tried both products, and the "old" mix just felt better in my gut, (no bloat or hurt) and my muscles recovered better after/post work out. YMMV
PS. Check out the Ingredients/pictures here
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2VOWXNLCGRV7J/re…

    • Careful now, might get a neg.

      • +1

I think gut health is very important over all. And if your going the effort of a healthy life style with exercise that needs recovery supplements. And then one day you get bloated (and hurty) and then take the time to discover WHY. Maybe others would like to know. That was my experience. AND one of the major reasons of my researched purchases of O.N in the beginning (and the past three years) . They changed, I was not aware of that "change" and paid in money, time and hurty gut. Also some times I got a mild head ache after as well. I put it down to over excursion on my part. But when I changed supplements they went away. YMMV

        • Yep, 100% agree, that is why I didn't purchase this product and went with NOW (post above).

        • +1

@RocketSwitch: I can feel the frustrations with finding the "new" product, for your life or lifestyle. It can take weeks! (I have a chart of questions, with support data) But the investment is worth it. I used O.N every day for over three years and recomended to all with active life styles but had gut "complications". I see you (RocketSwitch) have put effort in too. Hopefully myself, or you. Have helped someone and their immediate cycle of influence to improved results.

    • Any idea when this happened, completely unaware? I find this is a good product but due to buying in bulk when on sales I haven't gotten any for about 8 months?
