is it even possible to get an HD version out of a film-shot original from 1969?
Film has a way higher resolution than digital - especially formats like 70mm, track down the 4K version of Lawrence of Arabia for proof - if they got this from a good original print it should look great in HD.
Good article here: http://4k.com/news/the-4k-uhd-restoration-of-the-classic-mov…
Yes, like those 50's and 60's movies shown mid Saturdays on TV sometimes - like Hitchcock ones (North by Northwest). They look great in FullHD.
Such a good film. Absolute classic.
If you like car chase movies here are three classics:
Ronin - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122690/
Bullit - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062765/
Gone in 60 Seconds - there are two versions of this movie, the Hollywood remake with Nick Cage and the lower budget no-name original which is an absolute hoot. Really down to earth 70s fashions, dialogue and characterizations. Get them both and see which you prefer.
The original Gone In 60 Seconds had B grade acting at best, but once the car chase starts you will see why it’s a cult classic.
Ronin is a great film - one of the best for car chases
Not a feature film, but Rendezvous (a 1976 short film) is pretty epic… real footage of a guy speeding around Paris in the early morning in a Ferrari 275 GTB… you can watch it here https://vimeo.com/34039780
No love for The French Connection?
only from those that live in Poughkeepsie
Bullit was on TV recently and looked great but it ran long and my PVR cut the end off! Argh.
According to my calculations, the copyright on this film expires next year. Wait another 8 months and watch it for free!
Can you point to any references for this as being the case? I can't imagine all films pre 1968 are copyright free.
UK Copyright on films lasts for 50 years from first public release (unless otherwise legally altered like Peter Pan).
Or $4.99 to buy, as it's one of those movies you might want to watch from year to year.
