I've always wanted a dash cam but I really don't want to have video evidence of all the stupid shit I do.

    • +1

You just turn the audio recording off then you will be fine.

    • As long as you're in no danger to others, besides yourself, then you're fine.
Might I suggest early in morning just before sunrises. ;)

  • +1

There's actually an English version of this now I believe.

    • will wait for English version then..

    • Yeah, need a deal on the English version.

      • Yeah need a deal on it ASAP

        • checked with supplier, english version don't have any in stocks for now, and also cost price will more higher. at that price you can pay few more and get the viofo 119S V2

        • @MiniInTheBox: Any deals on the Viofo :) $100USD is no good.

        • +1

@CaffeinatedTech: don't have any chance recently, cost price rising too high on this item recently.

        • @MiniInTheBox: Oh look. Viofo sale at Light Box.

    • Does the Chinese version not have any english in the UI?

      • +1

The DVR talks in Chinese and you can't turn that off - only turn it down unless you physically open it up and disable the internal speaker. Also, the Chinese version on supports voice in Chinese.

        App is in English.

  • I can’t see if this has a capacitor or a battery. Can anyone who has this clarify pls

    • +1

Its a battery. Box says 240mAh. So in the hot Aussie sun, it will degrade quicker.

      • Exactly. Thanks for clarifying!

  • It's just a machine. Isn't it?
Not exactly, she has a name and answers you like a parter.

If this is meant to say she answers like a partner, no sale. We will just be bickering for the whole damn trip.

  • Battery only.

  • Have one.

Took a few photos while driving …. although Image is clear with ultra clear setting , I can not read the car plate which is directly in front of me by 10_15 meters. Cabt read the incomings car plate either. This is on a clear sunny morning.

You can see people's face okay though. But plates, pretty bad .

But for this price, I will just buy for piece of mind.

    • +1

I can not read the car plate which is directly in front of me by 10_15 meters.

Are you referring to the 70min dashcam?

      • +1

        Yep. The 70mai dashcam

        • Wow, that's a deal breaker, I love the app feature but not being able to read plates is unacceptable. My G1W shows plates clearly.

    • As long as the plates can be captured clearly within 3 metres, I think it should be alright.

      • Should be ok at 3 m if in an accident as collision are meant to be close up.

I don't have other dashcam. But doubt if any others can read 10m away cars while both car driving at 50kph

        • But motion blur will make it difficult to read the plate.. it's only good if stationary.

  • +3

In case anyone wanted to know how long the recordings it can hold.

    16GB 32GB 64GB
    ~1.5 hours ~3 hours ~6 hours

    Straight from the manual.

Also remember to untick shipping insurance.

    • +3

Why is the device called "70 minutes"?

      • Probably the battery holdup time.

        • So I won't get the 6 hours with my 64GB because the battery will die before then?

  • +1

These are good dash cams for the money, I bought a few for my cars to use front and back.

  • Can this be installed without a car technician? I mean the cables does it go through the roof panel?

    • +1

The cables are just usb powered, you can just have them dangling around in your cabin, but I would recommend tucking them in your roof lining and a pillars. This is as easy as just pushing the cable between the seam of the roof lining and the roof. Maybe watch a video tutorial if you're still confused.

  • +2

This is Chinese language only and has a battery rather than capacitor. Better options going around but hey, this has the magical X word so go crazy people.

    • +1

Other products you'd recommend near this price point?

      • +1

Yep, I’m also interested in dash cam suggestions at a similar price point. The G1W-C is around $10usd more, is powered by a capacitor and OzBargainers sound happy with the clarity of plates in recordings but it doesn’t have wifi, which could be useful.

      • +1

I recently purchased the Blueskysea B1W. Recommended here: https://dashcamtalk.com/blueskysea-b1w/

Seems very similar to this Xiaomi, but capacitor instead of battery. Audio is poor. With some coupons you can get it down close to $50aud on Aliexpress.

  • thanks, purchased.

  • I wish there was a RHD version of this. You cannot see if its recording while you are driving as the LED is on the left side. So if the SD card plays up, or somethings wrong you will not know.

    • I've got this and have noticed this too however if you don't have your stereo volume too loud the voice assistant says something at which point I just check the app. Probably also helps that my stereo takes a couple of seconds to hook up to the phone and there's a couple of seconds of silence after starting the car during which time she'll alert you

  • Was looking for a rear dash cam hence don't care for GPS as I have Viafo A119s V2 for the front. A good deal on the english version would be a solid.

  • How does the parking mode recordings fair on this (if it exists as a feature)?

    • No parking mode.

      • Thanks for confirming :)

  • English version of this camera ships on May 1st. according to AliExpress reseller. Its also more expensive however it support 128 GB flash drive and the voice commands are supported by Nuance server. https://goo.gl/Tq33pF

  • I'm getting "Sorry,your coupon code doesn't exist".

Will wait for next deal. Thanks!
