    Blue label is so overpriced

If you are willing to spend ~$100 on a bottle of scotch, try out the single malts - Laphroaig 10 yr, Ardbeg 10yr and the Lagavulin 16yrs

Or…. add water to an ash tray and drink it! I've tried to like Islay scotches (ironically I love the smell of a home fire or a bush fire) but just can't do it! But agree on the concept of wasting money on bad whisky. Hell even a bottle of Monkey Shoulder for $45 is better than JW Blue!

      • Yeh I forgot to say that I'm a smokey whisky fan, so those 3 above are pretty must smokiest whisky you can get for the price range :)

        • I'm not into heavily peated whisky's either, but I like keeping one bottle around for cocktail making. A lot of whisky based cocktails are much improved with a little spoonful of a heavily peated whisky on top.

      • That's a bit of a stretch. I'm not a blue label fan, as I think it lacks character for a premium whisky and as others will say in the >$100 world, there are better whiskys for cheaper, but it is incredibly smooth and drinkable. Monkey shoulder is fine, its my go to blend for mixing, but it is not of the calibre of blue label.

I would be extremely surprised if anyone picked MS over the JW in a blind taste test. I suspect this is just the usual trend of it being cool to hate on blue label talking.

+1 for Lagavulin 16. Hooley dooley!

    • Problem with Lagavulin 16 is after a while you soon begin to taste the artificial colouring and the water they add to dilute it. Lagavulin 12 year is more expensive than the 16 for obvious reasons. Agree though about JW Blue Label being over rated. Best Value JW is the green label 15 year old vatted malt - I buy it when it's on special for about $65.

    • I've been working on a bottle of Ardbeg 10yo since Christmas. Oh, so very smoky! I just don't understand the appeal of blended Scotch whisky, where they try to be all things to all people instead of doing one thing really, really well (like the single malts). If I want to drink blended I'll reach for a decent Canadian whisky instead which gives a distinctively different flavour profile.

      • I got Japanese for a premium blend. They make some absolute crackers. They've become quite pricey though in the last few years which is a shame.

Depends what you're into though. If you want an Islay peat monster then you won't find much from Japan for you. I'm not that fond of drinking swamp water though so it works for me.

  • Who is Johnnie

  • Don't they sell single bottle? Was looking to buy only 1 or 2

    • Yeah, over priced and over rated whiskey.

Personally I think JW Blue is a terrible whiskey.

If you buy 1 or 2 you're unlikely to ever buy it again. Perhaps they want you to buy 6 at once because they know that!

      • Thanks ..I am actually after JD & Glen ones.. and was scanning Gary's alcohol listing couldn't find single bottle options :(

I buy them on sale for gifts to people who don't know much about whiskey, always works a treat.

  • are these refurbs?

  • I received the box, it seems to be fake. The front label has no serial number, the height at the bottom of the bottle is different. The back of the bottle has no label. I am requesting for a refund.

    • just be aware that older bottles and new bottles, if I recall, one has serial numbers, one hasnt,
also the box designs are different,
there are differnet bottle designs as well,
the newer bottles have more glass at the bottom
