Good morning,
Is there any sleeping bill that can be bought without a prescription? I'm not after natural formulas or melatonin. Something light like unisom? Or do i have to see a sleep specialist?

You can get tablets called Sleepright which contain doxylamine, over the counter at pharmacists. I have trouble sleeping and these do help, although sometimes I feel groggy in the morning. You can't take them every night I don't think.

But yeah if you have some serious problems in getting to sleep or staying asleep, and you can't attribute it to factors like stress or lifestyle, maybe go see a sleep specialist
Just watch the Kardashian's.
Puts me to sleep everytime my wife watches it
I used to take Restavit. One knocks you out in 20 mins and makes you groggy for 2 days haha.i would take a quarter.
Me too. They're pretty strong
Restvavit is great but even a quarter brings grogginess in the morning.
Before the fun police outlawed it due to dipshits O/Ding on them through pure stupidity, Phenibut was great, you could probably still get it online.
too late
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-23/what-is-phenibut-the-d…Is it legal?
Earlier this month, the Therapeutic Goods Administration officially listed Phenibut as a Prohibited Substance, meaning that its possession, use, sale or manufacture is now banned in Australia
This is good for sleep, start with a small serving first to see how you handle it.
[bpm labs] (https://www.nutritionwarehouse.com.au/the-delta-zone-by-bpm-…)
It says on the label that it "promotes sleep and enhances libido".
I'd be wary of falling asleep half way through.I found that it basically has a calming effect, it doesn't knock you out or anything.
Even if you wake up in the middle of the night, it is much easier to fall back asleep.
If you take too much you just wake up groggy in the morning.if i pay that amount, i wouldnt be able to sleep anyway :P
I think you missed the joke. Probably too subtle.
@4sure: Lol, a few months with a new baby/sleep deprivation, a bit slow with that one.
melatonin from iherb
Remember the OP saying
I'm not after natural formulas or melatonin
In fairness, supasaiyan may have dozed off on that point.
Can you get some Phenergan - That stuff puts me into a deep coma
For the next 48 hours :P, holy shit this stuff knocks me for 6
Makes me sleepy for 8 hrs and stupid for 24, not generally worth it for me :/
I used this on a flight last year, 1 rum and coke and I slept for 3 hours. Cant say I noticed any side effects as I was already tired from a long flight
Promethazine should do the trick. Phenergan is the most popular brand here, but it is a 'pharmacist only' medicine, which means it is sold over the counter (no prescription) but you must speak to a pharmacist first.
Tryptophan worked OK for me in the past, a lot better than 5-HTP did to regulate sleep.
When people say to have a glass of hot milk (or other food/drink known to make people dozy) before bed, it's the Tryptophan that has that effect.
It can be bought online without a prescription - go for the 500mg caps.
Restavit (doxylamine) 25mg works a treat. Will cost $10-13 depending on the pharmacy you go to and they will label it up for you.
Good for a short term solution along with good sleep practices and habits. Long term it becomes ineffective so better to see your GP.
What's the problem with getting something by prescription? If you have an ongoing issue, why wouldn't you speak with someone who can discuss the full range of options with you?
Valerian Forte (2g)
Isn't this what doctors are for? If you are having problems why not speak to a professional?
Cause if you don't have a regular doctor, and go to them just to ask for sleeping tablets, A> they either refuse cause they think you are a junkie etc or B> prescribe Temazepam which is useless and OTC Restavit works better than that.
Don't ask for stuff.explain the problem. Id be concerned about long term use for all these things. Solving a medical issue by treating symptoms is unwise.
I highly recommend you to see a sleep specialist to find out the underlying cause. Not point treating the symptoms without addressing the root. If you're certain it does not have any underlying causes, try the natural way such as
- Making sure you get enough sun during the day
- Vit D might help
- Minimise blue light at night time (no laptop, TV, phone)
- Have a good sleeping environment. Bedroom is for sleep, nothing else. This way you train your body to respond to the cue to sleep
- Avoid drinking too much water an hour before bed— this is to prevent bathroom run in the middle of the night
- White noise (if you like noise),or ear plugs
- Finally, if all fails, listen to online lectures because they seem to put people to sleep :P
Good luck
8 Shut neighbour up
9 Shoot out their porch light8 try to regulate temp of room to comfort level
White noise
Does my tinnitus count?
I hate the smell myself, but a lot of my mates take 1 stick of cigi-weed. Seems to work quite well!
Honestly, no. Go to a sleep specialist if you need to.
Non-prescription stuff is either placebo, or will make you feel like utter shit and groggy.
Generally good sleep medication is a tranquilizer. Anything else you get over the counter or without prescription will either:
- Have a placebo effect and show you don't really have a sleep problem.
- Do absolutely nothing.
- (profanity) you up and make you feel like arse (e.g. taking a bunch of antihistamines will knock you out, but you'll feel like shit for a long while and not be rested)
thank you very much everyone. much appreciated.
Only treatment that has long term evidence for insomnia is psychotherapy and sleep hygeine/behavioural sleep techniques (eg sleep restriction). Best to see your GP regarding that, provided your GP is knowledgable in that area. If not, a sleep physician, or a psychologist trained in cognitive behavioural therapy for sleep would be a good option.
For short term help, eg. if you need a day of catch up, the odd shift work, etc (something you know won't be a long term circumstance), sometimes sedatives are appropriate.
Shorter acting ones are less likely to make you groggy in the morning; hence Doctors prescribe temazepam. Otherwise, if you're after an antihistamine that won't zonk you like doxylamine or phenergan, polaramine (dexchlorpheniramine) is probably a better option and is available over the counter. In general, best to discuss with your doctor to ensure they're appropriate for you.
Go to ebay and search for Kirkland Allergy Medicine (Diphenhydramine HCI 25 Mg)
eBay item number: 122092399109
Says its an antihistamine but also under different packaging described as a night time sleep aid. (Diphenhydramine can also be used to help you relax and fall asleep) Works a treat !
Comes from US. Under $20 for 600 tablets deliveredside effects of dry mouth and throat, increased heart rate, pupil dilation, urinary retention, constipation, and, at high doses, hallucinations or delirium. “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.”
Its an approved over the counter drug in the US.
But side effects no different to any other drug if you read the fine print.
They are just covering themselves for everything.
Ah diphenhydramine. Gives me nightmares! But my partner is very happy using this occasionally. For me, just the most horrible horrible dreams on it.. urgh.
Everyone is assuming that you have a problem sleeping, but you don't actually say that.
There are lots of things you can do to assist falling and staying asleep without pharmaceutical assistance.I work shifts in ICU. I use promethazine to ensure a decent sleep. Be wary though, it affects people differently. 25mg makes me groggy for 8h after dosing so try half a tab first (12.5mg). It is available from pharmacies.
Any of the first generation anithistamines will work (a couple of them are mentioned above).
I tried half a restavit and I could feel its effects in only 15mins. It didn't get me to sleep however and I was left feeling like a zombie for the entire day, felt awful.
i tried half a restavit too, it helped me dive into more quickly than usual but i felt awyful too during the next day. so i quit. sleeping pills are not the solution i guess.
Yeah lots of wine
