Got a clearer barcode? Don't think that one will scan

    • It appears to be ruined by Facebooks famous compression, but like usual, just showing it on your phone will get staff to bring their own copies out.

If I find a better barcode, I'll post asap.

    • +4

just copy the barcode into a barcode generator

    • +5

The real PDF/ barcode is always in the comments.

      Thanks OP, good first post.

    • Does this include photo Albums too ?

    • Just tried at my local BigW - Doesnt work.

UNLESS you use your Everyday Rewards Card as well. (Any members card will do)

      THEN it will work

  • +1

Does this stack with staff membership?

    • Probably not, from my experience at other department stores. Worth asking tho.

    • It has in the past, but I haven't worked at Big W in around 9 months so I couldn't say whether it does anymore.

    • +2

No, this is the staff discount. It does still stack with 5% off egiftcards from Cashrewards though!

      • Lol if that is just the staff discount can i use it normally at woolies for 5% off

        • Staff scan their usual discount card to get this offer. Since this is a family and friends offer, the general public (family and friends) instead uses the barcode provided on the flyer to access the same discount this weekend.

        • @victorwilson: Yeah, but have they programmed that barcode specifically just for this or is it in the system just as a regular staff discount card and can be henced used at woolies for 5% off normally. Someone test it.

        • +1

@joungs: The staff discount is tied to each employee's personal Woolworths Rewards card. The marketing department isn't as stupid as you think they are; of course this barcode won't entitle the whole world to 5% off at Woolworths.

        • -3

@victorwilson: ahaha wouldnt put it past them, especially if bigw doesn't have the 1store system yet. Worth a shot even if it's a long one.

For those that want just the barcode, here it is, in:

    • PDF form (Vector format so scalable without loss of quality)
    • PNG form (Bitmap format so scalable with loss of quality)
    • Name continues to check out.

      • +1

I don’t know why this comment got so much hate

        • +2

I didnt neg, but I'd say it's because the post in question actually had absolutely nothing to do with math (despite using terms used in maths), so it didn't actually "check out".

        • +2

          @caprimulgus:

Yeah but it's a nerdy way of explaining it. Which, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of. The last part of his name is nerd.

        • +2

          @Pharos5:

His name is MathNerd though. His name is literally saying he is a nerd about math (just like WatchNerd is a nerd about watches). If he is being a nerd about something else, then the name DOESN'T check out, because he is being a nerd about something that is NOT math.

It's like saying "name checks out" if I posted about caps (or posted in all caps!). Yes, my name includes the word "cap", but that is not what my username is saying. Similarly, MathNerd's name is not saying he is a nerd in general, it is saying he is a nerd about math.

Or to put it the other way: his post demonstrates he is a nerd, but it doesn't demonstrate that he is a math nerd - therefore the name "MathNerd" does not check out (ie. is not confirmed to be true). We have no idea from that post whether he is a math nerd or not!

If his name was MathAndBarcodeNerd or MathAndFileFormatNerd, then his name would check out! ;)

(As I said, I didn't neg you - I'm just telling you why your post doesn't "check out", and I'm almost certain is the reason why you've been negged)

        • +1

@caprimulgus: I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but thanks.

        • @caprimulgus: I can't believe my username is generating so much discussion, but if you ever want to check out the "validity" of anyone's username, you can certainly scour through their past posts/comments. I believe that in my case there are plenty of comments that agree with the username :)

        • @MathNerd:

Oh, but I'm not questioning the validity of your username! Not at all!

I was simply pointing out the improper use of "username checks out".

As you say, there are many many examples where you have demonstrated that your "username checks out" - but this was not one of them. ;)

        • @Pharos5: I loved your comment :)

  • Exclusion: gift card

    That just ruined my day

    • Doesn't hurt to try at self-checkouts

      • Very true

      • You will need staff help to process it and even worst, they will ask you to go to staff assisted check out.

        • +1

If it's a non-Wish/Woolworths giftcard which doesnt need to be loaded via the EFTPOS machine (i.e. those with barcodes), you can generally get away with it.

But in my experience, gift cards dont attract the normal 5% staff discount at Big W like they do at Woolworths anyway, so it probably won't work.

          • (Former staff)
  • -3

How does this work? 10% off each item or total when you pay?

    • +2

You print out the barcode and you scan it on the self service checkouts and it should take 10% discount will apply.

    • +29

      Lol what's the difference?

      • +34

There are 2 types of people. One understands mathematics; the other doesn't.

        • +20

Don't you mean there are 3 types of people?

        • +1

          Isn't the old joke;
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't
Also, according to my sister doing gender studies, there are 112 types of people in 2018 and counting

        • +1

Maths is as easy as 1, 10, 11…. or for those less numerically inclined: α, β, γ

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary, those that don't, and those that didn't expect this joke to be in ternary.

        • -3

@T-Quizzle: … Than there are those WHO understand English and those WHO are literally challenged, so they use the non-human pronoun THAT when they mean WHO.

        • +4

          @mike001:

Than there are those WHO understand English

You were saying something about the literally challenged? :D

      • I was going to say the same thing but I've made enough of a joke out of myself on this thread hahah

  • +1

Oh i thought consoles are included :)

  • +1

"if you plan to buy full price item, you can call on Thursday morning and put your items on hold for 48 hours. So less chance of it getting sold out.

Although it is against the company's policies, depending on who you talk with, you might be able to do the same with sale items."

    Now that's a useful tip.

  • Does it include Games? Just wondering whether consoles being excluded means games are as well.

    • +1

Games and bluray will work. I tried it many times before.

  • +5

I remember when 10% or 15% off storewide at BigW and Kmart were regular occurrences last decade. Good to know this lingers on somewhat, as our country gradually slides toward "shithole" status.

    • +8

That was when KMart was a real store and not a bazaar.

    • +1

      Target as well.

  • +9

Well, dang it. Doesn't include consoles. Someone, please, console me.

    • +3

eBay is doing 20% if that's any consolation ;)

      • +1

I'll admit, it does provide some consolation, and I thank you. However, even the cheapest price I've seen for a Switch is still probably going to around the same price was EB Games was and it's going to grey. Frankly, I have a case of the first world problems.

  • +4

*excludes 99% of things you wanna buy from us

    • Exactly what I was thinking, excludes items that need the discount the most haha

  • -1

    Any bargains?

  • Good stuff always out. They are losing my interest.

  • This includes PS4 controllers I assume if so that is good for me!

  • +1

Is telstra recharge under gift card?

    • Same thinking, it worked for me back in 2016, I hope it will work this year as well.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/3728145/redir

    • I'm hoping to get some Woolworths Mobile recharges. $23.09 cost for the $30 recharge. That's including EDR and 5% wish card discounts.

      • +1

@sween64. Me too. Let me know how you go.

        • +3

It don't work. Apparenlty recharges are treated the same as gift cards. BS.

        • @sween64:

          Thx, save me the trip

        • @sween64: thanks for letting me know!

    • I scanned the coupon, the checkout said "scanned and stored" but it didn't apply discount to Telstra nor Woolworths recharges?

      • I couldn't scan the barcode. Old POS possibly.

      • I contacted Big W via Facebook. It was escalated and I ended up receiving a $5 egift card for my troubles.

  • i guess i can pay with Woolworths discounted gift card from cashrewards ($100 giftcard for $90)and save more?
i did this a couple of weeks ago when they had 10% accor gift cards.

    • +2

      $100 giftcard for $90

It’s only 5% discount, so would cost $95 for $100 GC

      • so it is, apologies.
i might order some more for this offer

  • Does consoles include controllers?

    • it shouldn't. I've used my staff discount card on a PS4 controller before and it worked

  • Consoles excluded, but what about accessories like charging stands and controllers?

    • should be good!

  • +4

Excludes: Stuff people might actually want to buy.

  • What is "Big W Movie"?

  • +2

What about games.. Ie switch games?

    • What good Switch games are available now (or in 5 days)?

    • +1

Tried applying code today and it’s a yes for games

  • +2

Would they count the playstation vr as a console or an accessory?

    • +3

Employee here. During the last 10% off storewide sale, Playstation VR wasn't included. After a customer complained, the store manager instructed me to manually take 10% off.

      • Thanks for the reply, was talking to an employee today and neither of them were sure about it

      • So l checked the code online and it works with the base headset but the bundle isn't online to check if it also works for that

        • Went into the store and they said that the code would work with the headset, BUT as a bundle ($389), it only works to discount the game. They consider the bundle as a CONSOLE bundle, which I called bullshit, but they wouldn't budge.

        • Bought mine about an two hours ago and the code worked for me when buying the $389 bundle and got $38.90 off

  • +1

Oops just realised it's this weekend
    Barcode declined

    • +1

Need to scan everyday rewards card as well. Then it will

      • +1

Yeah, i noticed the machine stored the barcode but wouldn't activate it. Didnt have an erc on me to check.

  • +1

Imo this should be a highlighted deal. Now, any bargains? ;)

  • Sorry if it's a noob question, but can we buy Visa prepaid gift cards with it?

  • any mention of the expiry dates?

    • Ends tomorrow (15/4).

  • +4

I had some trouble using this barcode to buy a switch game this morning. The scan doesn't work UNLESS you also scan a Woolworths rewards card in the same transaction, then it works fine.

The staff at my local BigW were good about it, and called helpdesk, so this may be fixed by now - but if not, try scanning your rewards card.

    • same here. waiting at service desk for them to refund every item
