Great to combine with your new Tefal Filtra Pro

    • Guess you would have some exhaust issues :)

    • you have been around too many enclosed car parks sniffing the fumes to think of that one

    • @iforgotmysocks again! Damn it.

  • what's the regular price?

    • +2

When you click on the Deal it says $39.75.

  • Damn, I just bought a 6L bottle of penrite HPR5 for about $42 from Repco. HPR is a better oil but my old falcon doesn't really care!

If it is old are you sure 5W won't cause any oil burnt issue?

      • 2013 model EcoLPI, runs dedicated LPG - so perhaps not that old!. I just do lots of (highway) km's, but the engine is still really strong. Thanks to the high km's my car isn't really worth anything anymore and nobody wants LPG these days.

@wtfnodeal 5W indicates the viscosity of oil at cold start. To avoid burning problems grade 40 or 50 SAE is often used. It could be 5W-40 or 10W-50.

@webbiegareth, Penrite is so much better. Unless you have a 250000+ kms car, I'd avoid anything but Penrite or Mobile1.

Oil burnt generally refers to oil escapes from engine due to the oil not being thick enough. You can have 0w40 to have oil burnt but no problem with 15w40. This can happen before engine is even warmed up yet.

        • @wtfnodeal:
mate that's not oil burnt, that's bad piston rings or generally bad engine oil leak.

        • @sergeyv: it is not necessary bad piston rings or bad engine oil leak as oil burnt can happen in new cars too like I said below. Try to use lower viscosity oil than the acceptable range stated in your owners manual to see if the perfectly new engine in your new car will cause oil burnt problem. Changing from 5w30 to 5w40 or 10w50 won't fix the oil burnt problem like you suggested above as the oil is still too thin for a new car if the acceptable range is say 15w to 20w.

        • @wtfnodeal:

Been servicing cars for years and haven't seen any new car using anything above 5W. They Are generally 0W or 5W. Unless it's a dedicated gas ford, even then, I'd be using 5W. But if it did happen to you to see an oil burning at cold start with low viscosity oil, might have been a bad luck then, unless you're running industrial construction machines :)

        • @sergeyv: my old turbo Nissan took 15w but at 50,000km service I tried Mobil 1 0w and immediately had oil burnt problem. Switched back to 15w problem solved.

      • Since i changed my oil using 10W-40 last time, i keep recording how much oil i need to add to the engine.

Over the last 3450km, i added about 0.65 L oil (a bit of mix of 10W-40 and 20W-50).

Would that be considered oil burn or within the normal engine oil consumption? (For a 1.8L / 240900 KM / Sydney Inner Suburbs Driving)

Actually, will any of those or other conditions affect the engine oil consumption? Freeway driving burning less or more?

        • Try not to mix oil if you can avoid it although unlikely to cause engine failure. If your car is always fully loaded or your push it extremely hard then might cause more oil consumption. Otherwise likely your engine is worn (piston rings or valve guides). 0.65L per 3450km isn't that bad as some new cars claim 2L oil consumption per 10,000km is normal.

    Cheers 2 to pick up

    • You can pick up as much as you want. Just 1 transaction per pair at a time.
I picked up 4 in one store and paid twice.
      The staff were pretty cool.

      Thanks OP btw!

      Cheers

  • What’s the typical shelf life of this stuff?

    • Up to 5 years, best used in 2.

      • I'd avoid any mineral mixed oil that has been on the shelves for more than 2 years. Full synthetic engine oil shelf life is 2years, unopened.

Ignore the other replies, no idea where people find this crap. There is no agreed upon time by any of the oil manufacturers, and its been proven that decades old oil is okay to use so long as the specification matches the requirements of the engine https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/…

The other month I bought a bottle of HX8 from repco which turns out was made in 2012 and had no issue with sticking it in a car the same age. Surprise surprise the car doesn't car either!

  • Is this semi-synthetic?

    • Yes

    • -1

      Semi-syntheic but fully-sickkkkk!!

  • +1

    Thanks…Great value.I got 2 as I service two Hyundai Getz ('06 & '09)

  • It seems this oil is more popular than the "Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 5L - $19.99" deal here on OZB.

    Is this one better??
