Moto G5 Can't Open on PC

First time today I went to put movies from my computer onto my phone, went fine so decided to put a second movie, phone didn't have enough space so I cancelled the transfer and now my PC won't pick up my phone as a device. Also interesting is that I can't save screenshots or take photos on my phone since this happened (was working fine before). All else with my phone seems to be normal

  • You probably filled up the phone filesystem. You need to delete the files taking up the space.

    • I deleted a bunch of apps and things so now I've got a couple gigabytes of space free but didn't fix the problem

  • Is the phone set as an MTP device in the usb options?

    • It was the transfer files option out of the 4, that I was using to do the movie. Can't even see it register my phone under any of the options when I choose them now though

  • Some devices you need to set to use MTP when they're plugged in, some devices you need to open a notification saying "plugged in" or words to that effect and choose MTP. Restarting Android to start the connection process again if it's failed is sometimes required.

However, connecting Android devices to Windows is often a (profanity) of fail, so much so that I find it easier to install an FTP server on the phone and transfer files over wifi using FTP. Make sure you secure the server if you do this.

  • Are you using the genuine cable?

    • Yeah same cable that came with the phone. I haven't installed any software on my computer for it, but the first movie I transferred works fine
