Hi guys,

I have made an Android and an iOS app both of are a dictionary reference of Australian slang for overseas students or people from overseas. The Android app costs $1.99 to remove ads and allows offline use, whereas the iOS app normally will cost $2.49 (AUD) but is currently running on $1.49 (AUD) or $0.99 (USD)

I am running a promotion currently and I have 50 promo codes for each of the apps. Promo codes will make both apps free to use, no ads at all. Each promocode is unique and can only be redeemed once, which is why I have not been able to provide the code in the "Coupon code" section above.

Both apps also have a Hangman word game for people to test their knowledge and both allow you to compete on leaderboards against other people. Additionally, there are a lot of pictures of different places in Australia. Every entry in the dictionary has pronunciated words pre-recorded too.

To redeem in Android:
- Go the Play Store app.
- Click on the menu icon (top left).
- Scroll down to "Redeem". On my device it is just below the "Account" menu item.
- put the promo code in there. That should do it.

To redeem on App store:
- Go to the App store.
- tap on the silhouette of your profile (top right).
- tap on redeem Gift card or code.
- tap on "you can also enter your code manually".
- enter promo code. App should download.

  How is this different, better and/or easier than simply googling the word?

  Furthermore, given the nuances of dialect or slang words, particularly in spelling, scrolling through a dictionary to find what may or may not be the correct word seems a little disingenuous when compared to google's ability to predict or suggest similar (and often correct) alternatives.

    hi, you are right - you can certainly Google phrases and this is not trying to compete with that! :) It does two things differently, one is, it is a pocket reference and it allows offline use (like if you were travelling and didn't have a reception). Two, it is aiming to make things fun by introducing a game in there.

        Nope, both are written in their native platforms. So the Android app is java/kotlin hybrid and iOS is ObjC/Swift :)

    I have lost count. Android might have been months (refactored to make sure there is image caching and countless other fixes) and iOS might have been just about 80 hours for dev work. My wife, when she curates the content she spends a half hour here and there. I have made the apps convert all the text files she provides me in to DBs! But I have learned a lot from the different things that have been impenented.

  I would definitely suggest investing some time into your graphic design. The thumbnail and header images look pretty awful (that green is super harsh).
  Most users' first impressions of the app would be that it looks cheap and under-developed.

  I'd start by reading through the material design guidelines.

    This is one of the main reasons OS call centres are so difficult to deal with. Maybe big market there, but god forbid they ever try using it back to us. Just imagine a Filipino or Indian mangling some of it! :-)
