    Does it come with sandpaper?

      Lol

  • Any issues using this in Australia? Does footage pass through China first?

    • Everything Xiaomi goes through China. You're using their app afterall.

      • I'm using the Singapore server to make my Yeelight work without a gateway. I believe that's the only way unless you have a gateway.

        • +2

Yeelights use wifi not ZigBee gateways

        • No, the Yeelight does not require a gateway.

        • +1

@m9: no, but I believe if you do hook it up to one, you can use the China server, right?
It's all a bit confusing.. I bought a smart switch which only works on the China server, but if I switch to that my Yeelight won't work with Google Home.

        • +2

The Chinese authorities blocked access to Google and its services. So if you need Google Home integration you need to use the SG server. The Yeelights themselves can connect to either but the problem lies in that smart switch. Fingers crossed the SG server adds support for it in the near future.

Some camera has geo lock so after firmware update they can be locked for outside of China usage. That's what had happened with some Xiaofeng cameras.

Other than, all traffic goes to china unless you hack camera firmware & limit features of camera.

I use Xiaomi product but hate it being locked to china and had to hack to bypass it's home calls.

    Any good with Home Assistant?

  • Does this camera connect with a free server , ie. So I can just connect this camera to home wifi network, then view camera footage of my home via android phone when I am not home ?
I have another brand wifi camera package that I can connect to it all and view live video footage free while im out, but I believe many companies make you pay for server access etc .
Also, could this be linked to a sensor, so that I receive notifications to my phone if motion sensed inside my house, then I can check via camera to see if my home is safe and secure.
I cannot afford to pay for subscriptions to go along with any products.

      you wish

    • +1

You can view camera when your not home on your phone, you can also link to sensor and receive notifications.

      • Thanks . Does it cost me anything to view live footage, and to get notification from sensor ?

        • +1

No. It's free. Mi dont do subscription based camera feed services.

Unfortunately, notification alerts wont work as i.xiaomi.com is down, but wait for next firmware release and it should work again. (When you get a notification someone has walked past, hit play it fails atm, have to go back into camera, pick time and date to view footage).

    Xiaomi = never again

    • Can I ask why? I've got heaps of their stuff and am happy enough with it.

      • +5

I sick of their app, servers, locked timezone, poor services, unreliable throughput.
I have noname camera which is about 10x more functional.
I had something else from them, i don't remember now, but id didn't change my impression of the company.

        • +1

          Which camera did you buy?

        • +2

Thanks. I'm running my smart home stuff via home assistant with a raspberry pi as my server, so I'm not using their servers (and have blocked outbound traffic from them via my router), which would explain our different experiences.
I don't have any of their cameras yet though, and aren't sure if they can operate without access to the xiaomi servers, so it looks like I should be careful.

        • @newdad:
          Proprietary protocol.
Anything else you need to know about xiaomi…

        • @newdad: I'm looking for a similar setup. Doss this mean you don't need the xiaomi gateway device if you use their sensors on home assistant?

        • @shavi:
You still require their gateway because the Zigbee sensors themselves can’t communicate with your wifi network. Unless you’re talking about about their wifi-enabled yeelights or cameras

        • @kacak: I have their yeelight. Expanding now to their zigbee gear,so will have to get the gateway. Cheers

        • @SHPION: Cameras work fine using local RSTP servers. Load up fang hacks (for dafang/xioafang at least) and it works great.

  • Does Light In The Box charge international transaction fee if you use a credit card?

    • +1

LITB aren't responsible for the international transaction fee. That would be your CC provider.

      • Ok, should rephrase the question - are purchases on LITB considered international transactions by CC providers? ie, should I use 28 degrees?

  • Oh what. Just ordered a gateway earlier, should I have got this instead?

    • Yep.

The gateway has a light and fm radio tuner if you are interested and does a lot more than this "gateway" does. This gateway doesnt have the standalone gateway functions in it, but acts as an IFTTT co-ordinator for the other sensors.

Also, if you are anything like me you are going to end up with multiple gateways (30 device / 27 device limit from memory)

      • I'm only just getting into this. Had a bunch of sensors that I'd bought over the last year or so from bargains on here that I realised I can't use without the gateway :)

  • For a single camera installation, no subscription, with motion detection, what should i buy?

We've got one entrance to our property and i know people walk down it

  • Anybody have any problem paying by paypal? Mine seems to have 502 Bad Gateway from the seller

    • +1

Yeah…. but if you go to pay by paypal - rather than going to checkout to put the coupon in - and then when you go to review cart, put the coupon in - you should be groovy.

      • Thank you. Just bought it.

        Good Night

  • Which is the one I should go for? Dafang? Aqara? Chuangmi? Mijia Smart? Would need to have local storage preferably and loops the video, powered by USB with good 1080, wide angle image and in low light. So many cameras from the same manufacturer..

  • All Xiao mi cameras are for indoor use only. Any recommendation for outdoor cameras I can connect to my Gateway?
    Thank you.

  • I bought this on the last deal. I can't get it to work. I've tried every server. It just fails.

    Maybe don't buy.

    • Send it my way, I will use it, they are great cameras!

    • Someone mentioned that some issues might be fixed with new firmware update. I would try updating firmware before you give up on it.
Also Im sure some others on ozbargain with more experience with this stuff, could help you out with advice :)

  • This any good as an alternative to a baby monitor?

    • Might be if you want xiaomi (read chinese gov) to help monitor your baby…

  • got a "Sorry, your coupon code doesn't exist" error message during checkout. Anyone else getting the same?
