    What plane do they fly?

    • 777

I checked one flight, it shows Boeing 777 :(

That's a huge plane for Wellington's tiny runway, I'm surprised they can manage anything bigger than an A340.

        • A340-600 is significantly longer (almost 20%) than a 772, to the tune of 12m.

What's wrong with the SQ 777? It's the same heavy they use on some on the SIN MEL sectors.. very good in my experience

Will skip, needed to be the 787

        • +6

          ok princess

        • -2

Needed to be the 787? What? Why?

SQ don't even operate the 787 as of yet, in fact the first aircraft (787-10) was delivered less than a week ago and won't enter revenue service until May (SIN-ITM).

        • @Sir Casm:

Because 777 is a dated product, much better jumping the ditch on Emirates A380

          @juventino:

I guess you don't fly much, or of you do it's in cattle class. it's ok. Not everyone can sit up front.

        • @Jessie Ryder: I’m pretty sure Wellington hasn’t started, let alone completed the runway extension - so good luck landing a loaded A380 there.

        • @Jessie Ryder:

A dated product? The world's airlines disagree: 777s are still rolling off the assembly line at Everett, over 20yrs after launching.

  • thumbs up for full service.

    It’s a old 777-200 (regional version)

There are better products out there but for economy sure beats Jetstar/virgin narrow bodies.

  • Great! Very tempting. Can't actually seem to book the 304 AUD. Not that it is a massive difference but cheapest I can find once I click through is actually 316.68 AUD

    • I just ran a deep search and more are showing at $304 … some of those may still be bookable

      • e.g. I click on the 20th of Jan - 9th of Feb. When I click through via the Singapore Airlines website it shows up as actually $316.68

  • Out of curiousity, how is Singapore allowed to fly direct to Wellington?

Doesn't Singapore Air have to be confined to Singapore? Did they open an ANZ subsidiary or something?

    • +1

They can do it because of the 5th freedom of the air (https://www.flypointyend.com/5th-freedom-flights/?mobile=1) which is part of the air service agreement between countries, in this case Singapore and Australia. It's also how airlines like Emirates can similarly fly between Sydney and Christchurch (after arriving at Sydney from Dubai)

      • Didn't know that, thanks!

  • We need more competition for SYD-WEL

This was the old Capital Flyer between Singapore, Canberra and Wellington. That service was replaced by two services, the Singapore-Melbourne-Wellington return service, and a new Singapore-Sydney-Canberra triangular service.
