Officeworks Clearance Items

Does anyone know if an item goes on clearance at Officeworks if that usually the final price or if it could go down further? Sometimes I like to live on the edge and see if it goes down further before it goes out of stock.

Officeworks afficianados and enthusiasts please chime in.

Not an officeworks afficianado or ethusiast but I assume clearance is as low as it gos. I'd actually assume that if something is on clearance they expect to either leave it there for however long or just throw it out (or donate it?) but I base that on absolutely nothing. If its on clearance at a certain store though and its kind pricey and theres a few stuff there, if you get lucky you might be able to get a staff to give you an even better deal? I'd guess chances are they'd be happy to get rid of it if you can talk to a floor manager.

    • Items can go down, I work there, they start at a price and automatically get moved down by some algorithm, I have seen items listed on clearance at $10 and then found a lost one a couple weeks later for $3.

      • And sometimes clearance items aren't even on their website anymore.

  • The Officeworks clearance items that get listed on here are always too hard to track down, I would say it would be minimal stocks and therefore unlikely to go lower

You can see on the clearance tags if it has already gone through multiple price reductions chances are its not going to drop lower.
Not entirely sure on what these intermediate prices are - clearance or "special" or something else entirely - but they are clearing stock for newer updated stock to replace it. The old stuff won't be restocked.

  • Officeworks, in my experience, very commonly has no stock of their clearance items. It's hard not to think that it's a bit of a scam.

    • Things on clearance are probably no longer stocked and only go on sale once there's just a handful left in a couple of stores that are struggling to clear the shelf space, bit unfair to call it a scam.

      • Even though they leave the "clearance" signs up on the product hook for sometimes weeks after they're out of stock?

In fact, sometimes the store doesn't have any stock at the time they put the clearance sign up.

        • I would imagine that would come down more to poor process implementation, which isn't to say they couldn't possible get a telling off. Although it's not like it's advertising outside of their store.

A scam would suggest intentionally going out of their way to mislead consumers.

        • @tomsco: And having a clearance price tag on a hook when they don't have any stock isn't misleading?

        • @pjetson:

It is, but my point is more they probably get given the tags, some retail assistant chucks it up without putting 2 and 2 together and this is where we end up.

They’re not advertising externally, so it’s not like it’s bait advertising.

As I said, it will just be a case of processes and real world not matching up, not a conspiracy to mislead consumers.

  • Might now help, but I recall that when I got this, I got it for under $4, so possibly can go down further.

  • I think that the last genuine clearance item I bought from Officeworks was around 10 years ago - 100-sheet pads of ruled A4 paper for 1c per pad - reduced from $2 or so.

I bought 300 pads - 30000 sheets - for $3.00, and I'm still using them (but down to my last 10 or so pads).

I live in hope of seeing them on special again, but I doubt if it will happen!

    • Can I ask what your pen to pad ratio is?
