Just came across this while looking for a Mini-PC to replace the wife's core2duo dinosaur so I bought one. I think this the cheapest I have seen this unit. This unit has the latest 7th Gen i7 low power CPU (28W TDP) with the new IRIS plus built in GPU capable of some decent gaming and supports 4K, wireless and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. This is the taller model (ie.BNH) which can also accomodate the 2.5 HD or SSD. There is also a i5 CPU (15W TDP) version for $80 less. The units only need memory (ddr4), HD/SSD/M.2 and O/S to function.

  • The i7 is the same as the top spec CPU 28w from the 13" Macbook pro with the 64MB of eDRAM.
Its a really great chip that will run a high res desktop interface without the dropped frames i find in the run of the mill 620/630 style Intel graphics.
Still not meant for games, but will do twice the frame rate if you have to i guess…
    Great price!

    • The i7 is the same as the top spec CPU 28w from the 13" Macbook pro with the 64MB of eDRAM.

It's still only the 7th gen CPU though. The 8th gen model when it comes out will be a lot more powerful with double the cores.

      • Yes but im talking about this being a better all rounded CPU/GPU, im not saying its better for specific multithreaded multimedia apps, like the chips in 95% of gen 8 low powered devices.
Its also only $500, when the next gen are released you will need to wait until this time next year for a sale on them like this…

There's real issues comparing mobile CPUs and integrated GPUs because of the myriad of ways they can be throttled by OEMs to save battery/stop customers "worrying" about heat/provide great 3d performance for 5 minutes/whatever else.

The same CPU can behave very differently in different devices.

Cheapest price on StaticIce for NUC7I5BNH is $465, and $592.59 for NUC7I7BNH. This is a good deal cheaper.

I have an old N2830 and a 5 series i3 NUC around. They're not bad devices provided you source them cheap, otherwise I think you would be better off with a desktop/ITX build.

  • Apparently this supports external gpu

    http://nucblog.net/2017/04/kaby-lake-i7-gaming/

    • The NUC has a Thunderbolt 3 connector which enables the possibility of using an external GPU

      Apparently it's a possibility.

      • Bought it for that possibility. Hope it's the case.

        • With the Thunderbolt 3 connector, it's also a possibility you can have two 4K screens going. I bought it for that possibility and I also hope it is the case :D

        • @hotmumbo: LOL please be sure to update us. I'll need to find out how to afford a Razer Core next.

  • Sorry for silly question. I never use this before, so this Device is not include with SSD or HDD i need to buy that extra right ?
And can i use this to run Internet Download Manager, for download movie and watch it straight away on that Device too.
Thank you so much for you help.
    Thanks

    • You have to buy SSD or HDD and Ram, operation system (windows 10) or free linux to run. Yes, it's desktop pc, can do anything like a pc.

      • thanks Winman !!

        • no worries. I had one of those NUC i5, running perfect for HTPC.

        • So we need to install the Liscene the Window for that too ?

        • @thomas2017: sure, you know it.

  • The i7 is $132.50 below my distributor price, and the i5 $75 cheaper.

Amazing units grab them while you can absolutely.

  • I realize the form factor but I wish this was quad core so I could put my Esxi labs on it.

  • For anyone on the fence about whether to go for this unit or wait for the 8th Gen version, bear in mind that the current 8th Gen CPUs don't come with IRIS plus GPU so do not perform as well on graphic intensive applications (ie. games and maybe 4K video). However, the processing grunt of the 8th Gen CPUs are significantly better for other tasks but you'd need to wait for who knows how long before it comes in NUC.
