  • What on earth would I use this for???

Behind/under washing machine/Dishwasher for any leaks, Under vanity/kitchen sink

The usual spots that you can have leaks

    • +2

I have my home automation system shut my windows when it rains; or someone pees on my balcony, one or the other.

      edit

    • Mine alerted me to a big leak under the kitchen sink!

I'll be honest, I bought one of these a while back but didn't really think I would have a use for it.

But I have found it very useful with the wife.

    Thanks Xiaomi

Not …sure… if …comment is super innocent or overly sexual. Dang it.

      I think you meant wifi?

I have one that went off the other day and told us about a leak. I'll be buying a few more as its proven useful.

  • Anyone else getting 502 errors trying to order?

    • Yeah LITB have broken their upstream server and passing post variables.

      To checkout:

      • Choose paypal checkout
      • Preauthorise the full amount ($20)
      • After paypal checkout, it will return to the "postage screen"
      • Apply coupon, remove shipping insurance, change to free postage
      • Click Order

      It will work.

? How do I know this will work? - It's been broken for 2 weeks, no response from their tech team, they don't consider it an issue. 50% of my devices and ALL of my accounts experience the same problem.

Try and search through the search bar and it will 502 as well.

      • I found another way (which I found when trying to order it again - it said I'd already used the coupon) - I just opened another tab and went to LITB and looked in My Orders and the order was there but said it was waiting for payment - I just clicked on that order and clicked to pay and that worked fine.

        • Yep, that's been mentioned before; good work.

It works if their payment gateway accepts the order; a lot of the 502s don't actually create an order.

Good work, hopefully they fix it.

Curious, does the search bar work for you? The standard search bar for shopping that is.

        • @MorriJ:

Yep - search worked for me

  • Thanks OP, got one

  • So this items works on its own? Don’t need any other product to get it to work

    • It needs the xiaomi gateway to function, as it communicates via the zigbee protocol to the gateway which can then connect via wifi to your routers

      • Oh ok thanks. Where do I buy the gateway at a good price?

        • Most people starting out tend to go for the 5-in-1 kit, which is what I’ve done.

One reliable (and quick) source is gearbite on eBay $75 and there’s a 10% ebay code (search ozbargain).

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-5-in-1-Smart-Home-Securit…

        • The gateways are also available by themselves - they come up for a good price on various sites at various times - generally < USD$20 is pretty good.

  • Does it tell me the temperature of the water? Was thinking of using to fill my bath tub. When the correct water level of reached, it will sound alarm.

    • Don’t think so, it’s just to detect presence of water eg. A leak in pipes flooding your house etc

  • Was on the lookout for these! Kicking myself to have missed out as I could do with 4 8^(.
