  • Does this work in Australia now?

    • my existing one works fine, not sure if new once can be setup easily, should be fine as long as u select the location as china

      • +9

The new Xiaofangs are region blocked and will not work in Australia. It's hard coded into their firmware and setting mi home app to China locale doesn't work.

You'll need to hack them (Fang hacks) to make them usable.

        • Hey Scrimshaw - do you know if you can FangHack one that you've already setup not knowing that it was region locked (thought it was just a brick now) Cheers

SCRIMSHAW IS CORRECT…The new Xiaofangs are region blocked and will not work in Australia…

I have 3 units and worked with these the last 3 months… The last unit purchased from GEARBEST wont work in Aust.

Gearbest fail to reply to MESSAGES or emails to fix / refund….
Currently I'll probably seek refund support through PAYPAL …
My email to GEARBEST as follows…

"Gearbest Order WW1802280445505*** - item will not work – Cannot lodge TICKET.

Item I purchased says "EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN VERSION".

When Item is switched on it WILL NOT WORK but reports "USE ONLY IN MAINLAND CHINA - THIS PRODUCT IS ONLY USED IN MAINLAND CHINA" (AS PER PHOTOS ATTACHED).

          Gearbest Order WW1802280445505***

          reference number is UG3234314***,

          sku = ZRM40***

I tried several time to lodge a Ticket but your system keeps rejecting it saying "Check Goods Please"

Please send working item or pay refund.

          @urbancartel:

Don't know the answer to that I'm afraid. Check Reddit /r/xiaomi, XDA developers or the Xiaofang Github page

          Cool will do ;)

If your camera has a QR code at the bottom and mac address starts with 34, fang hack doesn't work either. In that case you have to down grade the firmware to 3.0.3.56, then the fang hacks will work.

If you want to use it with mi home app, you need to use older version of the app (4.0.11) as well.

@urbancartel: You can downgrade the firmware and then get FangHacks going. There's instructions somewhere in the GitHub repo (or maybe it was in the wiki).

          Hi @urbancartel:

I've successfully done the FangHack on a previous Xiaofang unit I have. Take your time … follow steps diligently and it works as stand alone unit with SD card on-board and controlled through "MiHome"…

Thanks for the info. Comment bookmarked :)

        • @cpuram:

Awesome thanks for the info mate - just checked and it has QR code and MAC 34 so i'll give it a go :)

thanks mate! the second one I bought has a QR code with firmware starting with 34. It was working fine in the Mi Home app but then the app updated and it stopped working. Figured that I would have to use an older version of the app but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I have 5 of these and a couple of dafangs which I bought over the last 6 months from GB and LITB. Setup was straight forward and they all work fine since the setup day. Have been upgrading firmwares whenever prompted. Had no major issues. Sometimes the stream doesn’t open on some cameras randomly but I think this issue is more related to the Chinese servers rather than the cameras themselves.

Just don't unpair them by mistake.

Once you do, you'll have a hard time trying to re-pair. I unpaired one of my Fangs by mistake and it's now completely rejecting any attempts to connect (it stops the connection process @ 89% percent of the way)

I kept the firmware at stock — never updated them out of the box and I also tried 3 different versions of mi home application.

Happened to me once and I managed to fix it, the following might help:

          (1) Try with another WiFi network probably using your phone and setting it up as a WiFi hotspot. Choose the same SSID and password for your hotspot as your main router. Once it pairs successfully you can then turn off hotspot and it will work via normal router.

          (2) Use this Chinese version of the apk:
          http://app.mi.com/details?id=com.ants360.yicamera

          (3) Once the QR code has been scanned successfully and the light turns blue, wait about 10-15 seconds before hitting "Next", this will give it some time to register on their Chinese server before your app polls the server.

  • I bought one of these, the software completely sucks rendering the unit basically unusable.

for a while now there has been a bug:

associated mihome app does not download the recorded notification videos (otherwise cameras work)

  • +1

I also bought 2 of these.

Can't seem to get them setup as the software/app sucks

  • I've got a few of these from old deals that I never opened :/
    Anyone want?

    • I'll take two at same pricing + postage?

    • I'm interested!

    • I'm Interested

  • just a general question, if I don't mind paying few dollars more, is there version available that will definitely work in Australia? or are they all the same? TIA

    • Dafang's work in Australia as far as I am aware

    • Yep, buy them from Mi directly or one of their official channels. LITB, Gearbest, Zapals etc are not authorised channels, they are just resellers. They will unlock them, but expect to pay through the nose.

      • How do I buy it direct from Mi?

  • +1

Hacking these can be very frustrating. I ended up bricking a couple, and had to solder wires to the serial ports to recover them.

  • I bought one from last deal, and it does not work from latest updates, anyone who know how to get it to work I am happy to sell it to them cheap, drop me a message cheers

    • still have some xiaofang to sell?

  • Only need reset & reinstall app.Problem solve.
    I had 2 & still working fine.

  • Nice
