  • I tried getting their insurance and called 3x. Couldn't understand any of the salespeople so I went with racq fit $100 more

    • You paid $100 more?

      • +1

        Yes.
Not only due to the fact that I spend 1hr+ trying to sign up and I couldn't understand the answers to my questions regarding claim processes and what's covered.
But also because I know racq has an easier claims process.
As brucet and homr said, claim process is important and theyre cheap till you need to use them.

You should look for easy claim company . ( not the cheapest one ).

  • +4

They're cheap until you need to use them.

    • I would never use these guys for the small amount you save on any insurance you use them for, you can loose 20 fold plus on a claim. These guys are the worst.

    Thanks OP, purchased.

  • Which is better for adventures on holidays?
Allianz has extra add on for that while NRMA doesn't have it so very confused. Before you take any travel insurance please have PDS deep read as they man not include what you want to cover.

    • Define adventure.

      • Snorkeling, absailing, moped ride, quad bike etc

Spend like $80 a year on a commonwealth gold credit card and you get free travel insurance. (you don't even have to book the flights on the card.

    • ANZ platinum CC insurance provided by QBE, met all conditions contacted to get confirmation of insurance before leaving everything was legit.

Contacted them for something minor while on holiday and they had never heard of us as we're unable to provide us services without confirmation of whatever…

Recently IIRC an Aussie travellers life support was turned off while the doctor was on the phone to his family member as the insurance company wasn't paying up and the family member couldn't produce cash asap.

Moral of the story is travel insurance is like a condom, you're better off (profanity) with one then without one and preferably a decent one that you paid for and not the one your credit card provider keeps in it's wallet just in case.

  • Thanks Regie69! I've used these guys before and they were great when WestJet lost my luggage in Canada. I was about to buy another policy with Budget Direct again when my partner suggested we quickly check OzBargain on the off chance there might be a promo code we could use. We found yours and it saved us $24 so thanks!!!!

  • To anyone who is negative of Budget Direct, I'm a person who carefully reads the T&C's, so I know where I stand. I've used numerous companies prior and Budget Direct does offer the best coverage for the least amount of cost.

We rent cars overseas and don't like paying the extra $25 per day for the loss damage waiver/collision damage waiver/excess reduction to get the excess down from $6000 to $500. So we get around that by ensuring we have an insurance policy that includes a rental vehicle accident excess of $6000. Budget Direct are the only ones that do this high an amount!

There is loads more they cover that the others don't.
