  • I still remember that someone from a post last year (140GB for 70 Optus mobile broadband) said next year Optus will come with 200GB plan for the exact same price. I mean, yes, it is the trend, but it comes to us too soon.

Can i get this 200gb plan and put the SIM in a 4G Modem (bought outright eg eBay) to replace my crappy ADSL2? Then just use the iPad on the 4g wifi or even sell it?

    • +3

Yes, exactly what I have done.

      • Awesome… Does Optus cap the speeds if its used in a 4g modem? I read if you use one of their 'Home' modems it is capped at 12mbps. Also can you recommend a modem?

        • +1

Na, 3CA brings me up to 170Mbps @ lower north shore sydney during daytime but is also acceptable (40Mbps) at night

I use Netgear 790s and got speed 30Mbps download and 10Mbps upload, which is great faster than ADSL 3Mbps/0.7Mbps. i just cancel ADSL last month. This one pay a bit more but get awesome speed.

optus has WIRELESS broadband, yes it's capped, and can't use all the bands, Optus also has MOBILE broadband, no it doesn't get capped for downloads, Netflix vis the app on the tablet / phone which isn't counted is 1.5mbits SD, go above that and it counts.

WIRELESS broadband and MOBILE broadband are 2 different products and there are some differences.

I've never been shaped on MOBILE broadband and a 4G modem with optus.

      • Which modem do you use? Thx

        • I use Netgear AC810s (bought unlocked on eBay) and it works great. The data usage display feature doesn't work cause the device is in fact Telstra Advanced III and has Telstra firmware. I'm on 100GB plan ($52.5/month with iPad)

      • just remember, it counts uploads and downloads, but yeah, unless people have an xbox that needs updates, for a lot of people it's great for home and you can take it on holidays.

      • How much did you sell the iPad for if you don't mind me asking?

    • Yes you can do that but Trust me you don't want to run it on 4G. Run it on 3G by changing the network settings as it will cap the download speed because If you run on 4G 200 GB will vanish in no time. I am using this plan in 3g mode, no issues streaming and browsing.

    Free streaming of Presto!

  • If they had this on 12 month instead of 24 I'd be sold.

    • They have it on month to month 200GB @$70, no contract. Offer valid till 4/4/18

512gb iPad Pro 12.9 for $80pm would’ve been a ripper deal if they had stock!

Okay okay so if I put the sim card in an unlocked 4g modem, can I use this as a home internet alternative? Will I still get data-free netflix etc? Will chromecast work with this and data-free too?

    • Yes you can use as home internet, no Netflix won't be data free

  • Im on the optus $40 plan with a ipad, can I upgrade to this plan for free?

or upgrade it with ipad pro for free?

So if I cancel after 12 months, I just have to pay out the balance on the iPad for the remaining 12 months with no other penalty.

Only problem is I can't see where it tells you what the balance on the iPad will be for 12 months.

    • I think just need to pay the ipad. It is listed in the bill. If you hsve not purchase, just ask them the repayment credit per month for the ipad.

    • It says $33 per month for the device. So I guess if you're looking to cancel after 12 months, you might be required to pay $396 for the device!
