Beats by Dre Studio 2.0 wireless over ear headphones opinions

Hi guys,

Can i please have the communities opinion on Beats By Dre Studio 2.0 Wireless headphones? I want to know if they perform well and if a good buy for $170. I've never owned Beats before and am in the market for over ear wireless headphones without breaking my bank account. I'm after comfortable with a good sound. Another thing is that i have an Android device so is there compatibility issues?

Please no Beats by Dre haters and don't tell me that I'm wasting my time and money because I'm not an audiophile. I want opinions from people that have either had them or other studios. Also what other headphones would you recommend for less than $300?

Thanks

  • I don't know if you'll get much love for Beats on Ozbargain.

I think they're widely viewed as more of a fashion accessory.

Have you considered any other brands?

I must confess that whenever I see someone wearing Beats I think "douche".

    But hey… I'm no audiophile.

I bought some Sony XB650s a while back from Myer for about $130. I think they're great.

    • Yeah I've definitely considered other brands. Sennheiser urbanites for example. Have read really good reviews about them. How is the clarity on the Sonys?

    do you want noise cancellation?
how will you be using them? - around the house, on the bus/train, on a flight?

I'm not a beats hater. - they are simply overrated and overpriced.

    • Yes definitely noise cancellation. Mostly say on flights, bit around the gym on weight days.

  • Noise cancellation means qc35 or wh-1000xm2. If not then a whole world other than Beats opens up to you.

  • Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2. These beat out the QC 35 II when I tested both.

  • I agree with above. I had a set of Beats (before I discovered OzB) and they broke within a year, just before the warranty ended. Luckily they were under warranty so they got repaired. And voila, they broke again within a week of using them.

I got them for around $170 too but that was essentially $170 down the drain. It is a fashion statement. The sound isn't fantastic for what you're paying. And yes, they are incredibly overpriced.

    • Were they studios or solos?

  • Get the Bose QC. You'll thank yourself later.

My beats studio wireless is 3 years old now ($300), never had technical issues. The pads wore out and shreded after a year, I bough new aftermarket pads and replaced them (easy).

Mostly say on flights, bit around the gym on weight days

On the flight it's fine, good cancelation, I never travel without them. Though over long hours of wearing them, the outside of my ear starts to hurt as the pads are leaning against them.
I would never recommend using this at the gym, unless you're just there to look at girls and not working out. the pads are thick and makes you sweat around the ears. Even if you're lifting weights and not doing cardio, you should still be sweating and it will be uncomfortably hot.

I'm wasting my time and money because I'm not an audiophile

If you're not an audiophile, wouldn't you find something cheaper but with similar audio quality?

if a good buy for $170

I don't know where you can buy them for this cheap as retail is double the price. just beware that it might be fake (very common, hard to distinguish).

    • Thanks! Yeah i was thinking over prolonged time with over ear headphones whether they would start hurting and extra sweating etc.

I found a pair at Harvey Norman on clearance that's why I'm curious to find out if it's worth investing money on these headphones

      • I don't think you can go wrong with it if its half the normal price. I would have recommended bose if the price was around $350. Since it's only 170, go for it. but still look at alternatives around that price.

        • Yeah will definitely look at alternatives. I know the pairing with an android device won't be 100% either so that's another drawback. Let's see if they even stick around till when i can go into store and purchase haha

        • @ay-papii: I think they are wired not wireless. If they are wireless then yea get them for sure

  • Can anyone recommend a good wireless over ear headphone? Would mainly be used for gym work, current pair close to failing.
