  • Good price. $200 is usually about he best for the LP60.

Looks like there’s 30% off all Audio Technica turntables. I’d stretch to the LP120 for $400ish.

  • Don't you need direct drive for mixing/scratching?

"Don't buy belt-drive turntables! Whatever the manufacturer claims, they are totally unsuitable for DJing. The main reason is that a belt-drive deck can't maintain a constant speed of platter rotation. And this is extremely important for a DJ because even slightest speed fluctuations will lead to galloping." - http://www.djingtips.com/equipment/choosing-turntables

Not all turntables are designed for DJ'ing applications, this model is targeted towards homes listeners.

True, I just assume from "Apparently a good starter turntable for beginners like me!" means OP is looking to learn to mix on these.

Yeah the world of home vinyl has it's vocabulary. I've upgraded to my now 3rd turntable which is a Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 which sounds amazing, and they still consider this a "audiophile starter" turntable.

If you can, spend a bit more and get a turntable with a counterweight. The LP60 doesn’t have one and it has been known to wear records out over time.

    • +1

Can't agree more. records are expensive and using lp60 is a sure way to ruin it. It tracks over 3 gram because it's not using a counterweight. Better go one step up to lp3 or lp120

This is a great turntable for Vinyl Beginners.

It was my first turntable, and it played about 90% of my records very well. Only issue as raised above by PollyWaffle is that it doesn't have a counterweight, so heavier vinyl like 180gm would have issues playing. ETC Master of Puppets by Metallica.

If you can spare the extra $130 get the Audio Technica AT-LP3 ($300.30) I upgraded to this turntable and I find it much better.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/audio-technica/audio-technica-at-l… (White)(I bought this one)
It has all the Automatic features of the LP60 with most of the features of the LP120.

Overall the LP60 is great for someone who is a beginner just figuring out the vinyl world.
Also make sure to get a good pair of speakers. I bought the Mackie CR4 4" Powered Studio Monitors and for the size they are a great set of speakers.

  • Does this play Vinyl? And can it be connected to a sound bar?

    • Yes it plays vinyl.
It also has a phono preamp built in so you can plug it directly in into an auxiliary source. For your sound bar, check it has RCA Aux (Auxiliary) connection.

      • Thanks

Found these specs on the soundbar would it work?

        HDMI: 1 in / 1 out
        Digital Optical: 1 in
Analog Audio: 1 in (Stereo mini)
        Subwoofer output: Yes

        Its a Yamaha ATS1060B

I dont see any RCA…?? Tempted to own my first turn table as I think its good value

        • I actually had a look at a few sound bars after posting previous reply, and saw that some had the analog audio (stereo mini), so that will be your only option in this case. So you'll need an RCA to 3.5mm stereo plug such as this: https://www.jaycar.com.au/3-5mm-stereo-plug-to-2-x-rca-plugs…

If you do enter the world of vinyl be warned it's an expensive addiction but a very fun experience :)

        • @bassiveguitar: Thanks mate. Much appreciated

        • @Ozjoey: Just a heads up that this Amazon AU 2 for 1 deal is on to kick start your collection - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/366530
I just got Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon & Division Bell for $55 delivered :D

        • @bassiveguitar: Thanks mate. Bought two vinyls. Wasting Light and Mylo Xyloto. Any recommendations for a vinyl turntable with the counter weight on its arm?

        • @Ozjoey:
          Nice taste!
Yeah I definitely won't say I know all the turntables out there, but I currently own a Pro-ject RPM 1.3 which I now love to death for its audio quality for the price. Pro-ject's cheapest player the Pro-ject Essential which has raving reviews and seems to be easily accessible (available at JB Hi-fi). It's $429 though and will require phono preamp, so it may be beyond some people's budget. But what it lacks in features it makes up for in quality. Hope this helps!

        • @bassiveguitar: Ok thanks. I’ll do some research. Have you got yours linked up to speakers or sound bar?

        • @Ozjoey: mine is hooked up to my receiver and satellite speakers, but I did hook up my mother's vinyl player to her sound bar and it sounded really good :)

Missed out on this deal. From all the research this player is the best but very expensive. Did not realise you need a counter weight so it doesn’t damage records.

Is there any other cheaper alternatives or just wait for a price drop on the above again? How often does JB do 30% off?
