Whoa shipping kills the deal. But what do you expect for fresh meat.
$22 to ship to Brisbane
hey, thanks for sneaky edits! :)
I've subbed to the newsletter for a while now. Whilst there are plenty of good deals on quality meat, the shipping cost kills it for me. I really wish they could work out a way to reduce that cost.
Yeah, agreed. Do these come frozen? I assume so. If so then you could stock up but otherwise it makes it expensive.
I got 2x3kg roasts for 137.99, $22.9 a kilo of quality meat sounds good to me.
What if your not home during delivery? Do they just leave it at the post office at room temperature and go off?
last time they delivered in insulated foam box, it was still chilly.
When did you pick it up from the post office though? I can't pick it up till the day following day because the post office is closed when I finished work.
If you ask they will leave it at your front door. Mine arrived during a 33 degree day in Brisbane last time and it was fine when I got home - the ice had all melted but was still cool.
Round up all your gym mates or "foodie" friends, order in bulk and split the shipping. That's what we do.
Do you all freeze your steaks? I prefer not too, I find it's not the same after defrosting.
This is from their website…
"All meat is cryovaced for maximum tenderness and flavour and depending on product can last up to 4 weeks in the fridge. Each delivery will be ice packed and sealed in a recycled polystyrene box to ensure maximum chillness upon receipt. All items are labelled with a used by date"
And I agree. I try to avoiding freezing decent meat if I can help it.
Thanks. WAsn't aware of this process, that makes it more justified.
What about in general when they're not 'cryovaced'?
had no issues with cooking a defrosted steak. I can eat anything when I'm hungry though.
@yoba: 2 things.
Cryovac aka vacuum sealed meat does nothing for tenderness, it keeps air out which makes the meat last longer. The bags cost 10-40cents depending on size if it has channels ect (could be higher if they are using really big ones)
Freezing steak will make it lose more moisture, so it will be dryer than if you had not frozen..
If I was to pay for premium meats I wouldn't be freezing them…
@Slippery Fish: agreed, neither do I, these are not a premium meat though.
@yoba: maybe not but if I was paying $20 for postage it'd wanna be some premium arse meat sealed in platinum bags with liquid nitrogen freezing lol :)
@Slippery Fish: served on a golden plate, I assume :)
@yoba: delivered by lady's in edible gold leaf bikinis :)
@Slippery Fish: spot on, I swear I had a bikini girl in mind typing my prev comment!
@yoba: lol :) we meet over meat
So.. anyone actually tried the meat? Are they cut as thick as the pics?
Any luck getting custom cuts? I don't like my short ribs cut sideways.
Found the meat generally very good, and at a reasonable price. Whole chickens look a bit scrawny (because they are free range) but taste great - much better than Macro free range in Woolies. Sometimes Scotch Fillet are a little thin, but you are paying by weight.
I'm in Sydney, so they visit each Wednesday.
All food is cryovaced and seems to stay fresh for a long time (but we go through it quickly)
I’m friendly with my local (and small) Woolworth butcher and he gives me 50% off any meat which he cut earlier in the day (ie has been on display for a day). I think you will find a similar experience with many other local Woolworths if they are friendly enough.
I buy from him every week like this and it feels like I’ve got the Amex shop small jackpot every time. 😄Bring back this deal
