Cybercool 72 bottle wine fridge. Seems to be pretty close to the best value per bottle you can get in a wine fridge for single zone with stable humidity.

Has been priced at $459.95 (still best value per bottle), down to $379.95 or $303.96 on eBay 20% off code PREWINTER.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CyberCool-Mirror-Effect-72-Bottl…

Postage to Sydney was priced to me at $37.95.

Don't have any personal experience regarding the performance, efficiency or durability of this item, but have found a few reviews around and they seem ok.

When you post an ebay deal, please link to the ebay store not the actual store as you cannot get the deal form the actual store.

    • OzBargains wouldn't let me link as eBay store wasn't "top-rated seller" is there a way around this?

delivery to melbourne was $60, which isn’t bad for an item of this size.

if only i had the room at home, not just for white wine, but also red wine in the summertime….

  • Costs ~$1 per day to run

Damn that's a lot! Is this oddly expensive? Or about par for the course for a wine fridge?

      • Normal for a wine fridge, just letting people know.

        • no it isn't

a normal small wine fridge is about $50/year

large ones will be around $100-$150

        • Interesting these are 180L - show us yours?

    • According to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335127, about 2kWh per day in summer when set at 12 degrees. At $0.30 per kW (peak) it's probably more like $0.50/day?

It's rated at 200w so would be 4.8kWh if running constantly, but most likely would drop power usage once it hits the set temperature….

      • So worst case 4.8 x $0.30~ = $1.20/day?
But noone hear pays max rate for power so more likely ~$1

        • Correct. But I'd expect it would run constantly initially until it hits the set temperature, then power use would drop so realistically it should be a lot less than $1/day, in particular taking into account cheaper off peak rates etc. Be aware of course that this type of cooler will have issues if it's in a warm room and/or does not have sufficient clearance at back or sides.

Basically it's way better than keeping wine in a normal cupboard, but a compressor system may be better if you want to put it in an area where the environment might get too warm (causing it to run constantly to try to keep cool so being expensive, and/or not being able to maintain the set temperature.)

1 dollar a day is quite a bit

  • I have purchased 3 of these over the past few years (2 for myself, 1 for my Dad) and have had no issues with them. All fridges are still running well and keep the wine at a nice stable 12 deg.

I had bought one (albeit an earlier model and silver in colour) back in 2011 for about $380. It was a 2-door side-by-side model, as opposed to the one linked.

My only gripe was that the temperature alarm, which supposed to sound whenever the temperature is outside the range specified and the door is left ajar (i.e. reminding you that the door is not closed properly). The alarm on my unit became erratic after about 3 years, and would beep randomly and for a prolonged period of time throughout the day and night. There was this one summer night back in 2014 when the alarm went off in the middle of the night and kept beeping for some 40 minutes. It was so annoying that I took out a hammer and a screwdriver, and chiselled out the speaker unit.

While my unit does not beep anymore, it is still going strong after 7 years. In fact, I found it to use less electricity and runs better than the 2015 VinTec unit that I have. The VinTec unit that I have has a condensation problem, which causes mould to grow in the unit.

Given my favourable experience with CyberCool, I am tempted to buy this unit to replace the VinTec.
