Dyson really isn’t good value unless you’re hellbent on bagless, for whatever reason. Even still the savings on bags could take a good decade to break even on, assuming you buy something like a $250 Miele C3. But then again, the C3 will thrash any Dyson.

        • Having a bag is not a problem. It's the filter. It requires washing/replacing.

We used to have a very good LG bagless, worked well. Became an issue when the 2 filters were clogged. Washing and replacing them is one of the worst thing.

You're mistaken if you think that a filter-less design is going to be 100% effective at preventing all dust particles from getting into internal components.

The vac will lose suction much quicker than a properly-maintained bagged vacuum, and will ultimately have a much shorter life span thanks to it.

I guess if the end user is happy treating a $600 vac as a disposable item and replacing it every few years for the sake of not having to do regular, easy maintenance, then that's their choice. Personally I think it only thrusts us further down the rabbit hole of being a throwaway society.

        • @googleyahoo69: I agree. Bagged is so much better. I was trying to say that for a Dyson to pay itself off (by way of savings on bags), it’ll take 10 years. During that time the vacuum is overall poorer performing than a good bagless (Miele C3, which can be had cheaper than the cheapest Dyson, yet still utterly thrash any Dyson machine).

        • @wintermadness: exactly right. Picked up a Miele C3 a few months ago and I will swear by it. Previously had Dysons for the last 15 years (3 Dysons) and the C3 shits on all of them, even the upright, which was fairly strong. I was a bit worried about going through bags like crazy but it’s been good, on to my third bag now and the first one filled up quicker, probably due to the new vac picking up years of things the old ones couldn’t.

        • @no not me:

Completely disagree. I have Dyson and Miele right now, and I basically only ever use Dyson. Miele only matches Dyson on price, otherwise it's as good as a $50 crap from any odd store.

        • @mrau: I don’t know. Most cleaners you hire tend to use Miele and swear by them. Did you buy a C3 or a lower end model? I think the C1 is lower quality.

        • @no not me:
Older than those two and it's an ok vacuum, but not as good as a Dyson

These are now effectively on run out as James Dyson himself said he has stopped making corded vacuums with the launch of the v10…

    • +1

Still great vacuums though. Although I still wonder why they stopped making them without the pipe being stored around the vacuum itself - it made them far easier to store.

    • Stopped development meaning these will be the last design, didn’t stop production yet.

      • Could also be marketing for the V10. Then in two years release a new corded model "due to high demand".

    • Well, better throw away all the corded vacuums then, they all suck more/less now!

Its the vacuum cleaner brave moment like when Apple ditched the you know what. I always thought of Dyson as the Apple of Vacuum cleaners.

I buy the cheap $50 vacuums at kmart and it gives me about 2-3 years of service before i turf it for a new one.
Not bad considering i use it for the car, sucking up saw dust, iron filings in the man cave too.

    • All well and good, but if you’re using it on your carpet - you should do so and then run a meile or Dyson over it afterwards. The stuff it’ll pull up will be amazing.

Dont have carpet so not really an issue for me i suppose.
