  • Damn you guys and gals!

Only recently picked up the 2TB Xbox game drive. Couldn't resist the SSD at this price though if the performance improvement is there… Might do more research before unboxing to ensure the gains are worthwhile in real world testing.

If you've tested yours on some titles please report load time differences if known.

      • I'm glad you posted that site… (Hardcore gamer one), as that's the one that stuck out to me the most when I read it originally looking at these drives.

It's not worth it mate. Unless you play BF every day and really want the time saving, the 5 seconds saved isn't worth the cost and capacity hit.

  • Bought one from prospect, still 6 left

  • MLC/TLC or 3D?

Can these be used as a PC drive? Any tear down articles on these? Standard sata ports etc…

    • +1

if you are still interested, and can find stock in officeworks, just disassembled mine and it has standard sata port. disassembly similar to Seagate 2tb portable plus drive. looks to be usable as an internal drive for a pc but don't quote me on it as I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

  • Plenty of stock still left at Officeworks, Prospect. I just got one and am deciding on whether to keep it or wait for a Samsung T5 deal around the $200 mark.

Got the drive from Officeworks yesterday. The drive can be opened up without tools. The aluminium foil stuck on the drive are very easily damage in the removal process, however. Here's the drive disassembled.

The drive inside is a Seagate Nytro Client 140. The drive is made by SK Hynix in South Korea (see "site: HYN" on the label) for Seagate. I am 99% confident that it is a rebranded version of the Hynix SL308 with lime green plastic moulding.

See this for review of the SL308:

    • Doing what needs to be done. Good job sir. So a Samsung 850 EVO is better.

      • I void warranties, that's all I can say.

Lower latency than 850 Evo under a heavy workload, but total bandwidth is less than 850 Evo. And you get 40 minutes more out of the battery in a laptop when this is used in place of the 850 Evo, which is a big plus if you are putting it on a laptop.

        • Seems good enough to edit videos of though like people do with the Samsung T5 models, amirite?

        • @YellowKnight:
Performance between them are close enough.

  • Still some left at Officerworks. I wonder why these aren't popular. Even for external use on PCs these are cheap.

  • Doesn’t show up at all on the Officeworks site now

    • Was removed many days ago. You have to check instore if you want one. Price should still be $180 for any remaining stock.

      • Here's hoping it'll drop even lower in price.

        • Or it will sell out at $180…

        • @fookos: I doubt it will sell out. Even though it's great bang for buck, no one wants it because it is Xbox branded on the front.

  • Picked up the last one from Officeworks Warners Bay on Tuesday.

    • How much did you end up getting it for?

Actually they're still at Officeworks Fermtree Gully. 5 boxes on shelf
