Apple iPad 9.7" Wi-Fi 128GB $509.15 Delivered @ Myer eBay

650
PMYERTECH

Airpods are slightly cheaper than the current $199 deal at TGG. OW have it listed for $199 as well so price beating TGG is no longer an option. OOS at Myer eBay, have updated the post to just include the iPad.

Not as cheap as the $479 deal, however this is currently the cheapest I can see listed for local stock.

    is it the latest model?

    • +1

Yes. It's last years model and should be replaced soonish though.

      • Maybe. There’s some rumours this model won’t be upgraded given it’s lower end status in a bid to keep costs down and that it’ll just be the Pros that get updated to include FaceID etc.

I can see sense to that. Keeping this one as is for another year would help to differentiate the pros further.

        • If the Pro gets an update without increasing the price, while the standard does not get an update, but keeps its price, that is less reason to want a standard. But I guess that plays into Apple's hands, because people will want a Pro instead.

        • There are rumors this iPad will be upgraded this year before the Pro model

          https://www.macrumors.com/2018/02/21/ipad-certifications-eur…

        • @lostn: Exactly. Moves people to the higher margin devices.

@ozdesi: Yeah sure, there's rumours both ways. Really the only ones that know are Apple.

        • @Smigit:

Wish they would hurry up. I have six ipad minis and an SE all desperate for an upgrade.

  • The airpods are in-stock again I think.

These models aren't so great due to the screens. Spend the Extra for the Pro version (currently have 10.5 pro)

    • +8

The pro is great if you're happy to spend twice what this one is…

But for everyone else, the screen on these is totally fine.

      • Although it's not intended to say these are bad, just want to make people aware of the headache other people are experiencing before purchasing.

        another link

        • Yes but the way you've worded it, you're saying the screen is a dealbreaker. It's not great because of the screen, and that one thing alone is so bad that the entire iPad has to be considered 'not great' overall. Some have even called the screen crappy (the same screen they had in earlier iPads that they didn't consider crappy before). I think that's overblown. A laminated screen is a bit better, but it's not night and day better. It's still the same resolution and colour accuracy (I think?). Those are the two things that stick out to me first when evaluating a screen.

The updated processor is a bigger consideration than the screen imo. But iPad 9.7 is still plenty good.. for now at least. However, if they don't update the model this year and don't cut the price, I would personally recommend the Pro over it.

      I have a Pro.

This one is honestly fine. I also had a 3 (called New iPad at the time) and I've never complained about the screen. Only the really fussy people care. The average Joe is not going to know the difference. So there's a tiny gap behind the glass. That's how all tablets used to be and no one said anything. I didn't find myself saying oh gee, I wish this panel was 0.5mm closer to the glass.

If it's a few hundred dollars cheaper, I'd rather get this than the Pro. The laminated screen alone does not justify that premium. But I already have the Pro 9.7 so I don't need it (purchased it before they released this model).

There is a reason they are hidden off to the side of the Apple store and NEVER displayed next to a pro. You would never buy the pro unless you had a specific reason related to the pencil, speakers or CPU.

Officeworks used to have them on display side by side but I think Apple killed that.

  • I'll need an iPad for the second half of the school term - I'll just buy whatever the latest is around June/July - any ideas when we can expect the new iPad?

    • Only Apple knows. If your after this lower end model then it was released in April 2017, so a 12 month-ish release cyclele would have it anywhere between March - May.

That said, I read an article or two predicting that due to the bottom end nature of this one that Apple would opt to skip a refresh for this year and leave it as be and only refresh the Pro models. Given how Apple handles a lot of its lower end lines it wouldn't be that outlandish for this one to be on a 24+ month refresh cycle so they can maximise the profits from a device that isn't spec intense. If they do upgrade it I can't imagine they're putting FaceID onto the $500 unit meaning you're likely just looking at improved CPU+GPU bump anyway.

      • meaning you're likely just looking at improved CPU+GPU bump anyway.

That's as much as I'm ever going to expect from a new iPad. What new things can they really do? It does everything you need it to already. New processor will add more life in future years when an older one will feel slow as apps are made with newer specs in mind.

There are people who would rather have an Air 2 than "iPad" because of the laminated screen. I think that's crazy. I'd rather have a processor 2 years newer, so I can expect to get 2 more years of life out of it than an Air 2. These iOS updates which Apple loves to force onto you always come with a measurable performance hit which is noticed a lot more on older devices (probably Apple's hint that it's time to upgrade).

  • Can we still collect Myer points on ebay? It doesn't seem like it.
Also anyone know whether Myer will give a tax invoice with full amount (before 15% discount)?
I'm going overseas soon, thinking of getting one. Thanks.

    • +1

No Myer points for their eBay purchases unfortunately.

Invoice will be for the full amount before the 15% discount. So, you can claim TRS based on the full price.

  • Will 15% discount code work for cellular model ??

    • +1

      Yup. Tried it worked

  • -7

They are all $599 on eBay, not the price you listed.

    • That's before you apply 15% off

  • Can you get an extra 5% from office works?

    • OfficeWorks usually doesn't price-match eBay coupons.

They will price match the list price before coupons, but not the discounted price.

Presumably this is because these coupons are often a deal between eBay and the seller, so Myer isn't actually discounting a full 15% off the regular price - part of the discount is rebated by eBay.

      • they’ve priced matched before with the macbook pro for me so maybe its just depended on the store?

        • They shouldn't as per their updated T&C, you were just lucky

        • @ozdesi: guess I was haha. was a great price too

  • Processor and ram seem to be left off the specs list. Obviously not a big consideration for prospective buyers. Dat front facing camera megapixels though!

    • Droid's 20 MP = Apple 6 MP
Implementation can vary greatly and a lower MP camera can produce amazing results compared to crappy higher MP camera on a droid.

Apple focus more on quality and tend to maximize their hardware usage compared to droid's specs overkill with generally poor implementation even on flagships.

      • The fact that my comment flew that far over your head would suggest you own at least several Apple devices.

        • I own droid phone and droid tablet

As for facts, name the device you are comparing iPad's front facing camera to?

        • I will spell it out for you buddy! The processor and ram specs are the primary consideration when purchasing a computer. They have intentionally been left off the specs list due to the dismal quality for money ratio of this product.

        • @Budju: Few facts buddy
          1) iPad is not a computer
          2) Apple don't like disclosing RAM on iPads because iOS takes care of memory management better than Android
          3) This is not a DIY build of a PC from the sounds of your statement
          4) Processor - same as fact 2 above, Apple iOS optimizes processing depending upon games or apps and is sufficient enough for the year device was released it. Don't start comparing it to PC processors.

        • @ozdesi: You had me check mated at 1) iPad is not a computer. CHECK MATE!
