Price beat at OW to get it at $189.05, they have it listed for $225

    • agree, did it that way previously. OW did include shipping fees though, and it should be one time if you are getting more than one.

      • +2

OW did include shipping fees though

They never do for me… You just need to point out it's also available in store or via free click and collect.

    • Thanks. I have included it on the post.

      • No problem :) Just one more thing,

Don't forget to click through cash rewards as always Cash rewards

Just keep in mind that Apple products are explicitly excluded from this

        Important:

Please note: Cashback is not eligible on the following brands: Apple, ASKO, Miele, AEG, Neff, Bertazzoni, La Germania, and Falcon. This includes all products for these brands.

        • Really? Didn't realize that about Apple exclusion from cashrewards! Will remove the link then. Thanks again :)

    • Finally got a set, and even better my local Officeworks had stock so was able to get it pricematched for $189.05

      • +4

And now that I've bought some, Apple can release a new version with lots of new features!!

    • OW has updated their price to $199!

    • Now listed $199

  • Is there a new gen on the way?

    • +2

Note: There's still not been any official word from Apple about the AirPods 2, but a source close to the project has told Bloomberg that there are actually two different updates on the way, a voice-activated pair in 2018 and a waterproof pair in 2019.

What about the ones with Apple Pay? Where you can just tap your head to pay for your purchases?
No need to take your phone out to pay anymore…

        • +2

I guess you still need to take out your phone for now to pay…

        • Still waiting for Apple glasses where you can just glare at the card reader to pay…

        • +2

I'd love one where I can tap JV's head and he pays for my purchases. No need to take anything out anymore.

        • +3

@charlesli679: I just glare at my date until she pays.

        • I'm not sure Coles/Woolies would appreciate people headbutting their EFTPOS terminals…And it would be painful to ear-butt them I'd imagine…

        • @twister292:

          Not sure if serious.

        • @PainToad:

As serious as JV's original comment!

    • They might release a minor update with the case that supports wireless charging.

  • How loud do these get?

    • +4

      Specs are here…

      • +8

Thanks I’ve woken the whole office up.

    • not as loud as max volume on big earphones like bose qc2? about 3 steps down from there. am usually using around 75-90% volume as outside sound does come in pretty loud.

    • Not very, since they have no noise cancel at all I tend to have them at 90-100% at the gym to block out the gyms music + other people. In a quiet room 40% is perfect though. I've got pretty fresh 19 year old eardrums though so results may vary

As an old guy with (profanity) up hearing now, let me warn you. STOP doing this.
Buy a set of noise isolating headphones instead, and lower the volume.
I used shitty headphones like these at the gym when I was 17+ and had tinnitus by age 21.

Get something like this if you don't mind a cable:
        https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/products/shure-se215-sound-is…
These will sound way better than cumshot airpods for general use.
Otherwise get a set of jaybirds for the gym / running.

        • +1

I had a set of sure headphones like this a while ago. Freaking amazing. I would squeeze the sponge and stick them in my ear with my mouth open. Looked like a freak, but once they expanded it even blocked the hum noise on an aeroplane.

Hard to pass on the convienence factor of AirPods though.

        • +1

Yeah, you're right, I know. I have QC35s but my head gets far too sweaty at the gym to use them, it sucks. I do have average in-ear earbuds that have much better noise cancel but have a wire, I've only used the Airpods for a few gym sessions. I'll do some more research on jaybirds, cheers. Fortunately I was borrowing the AirPods from my gf (we swapped headphones for a week) so I haven't wasted too much money.

    Anyone tried these with Android?

    • -1

      Most likely someone would have.

    • I am tempted to buy them as they seem to be superior to the pods Google released.

Apparently they stay connected just fine, the gestures work, the mic sometimes doesn't work (can't get consistent answers for this), you can invoke Google Assistant with a triple tap if you install a helper applicaton, but there are no in-ear sensors.

      • I've been considering it, I can't work out what makes them so much better than Pixel Buds though.

        • +1

For one the Pixel Buds cost more, that right there is why they lose.

They sound (subjectively) worse and have a cable binding the two ear pieces.

There's nothing convenient about the charging case, as you have to fiddle with the cable and wrap it every time you take it out or put it in.

The touch pads on the side seem pretty novel until you start touching it accidentally, all the time. Reviewers claim they accidentally started songs or did something whilst taking the buds out of their case, or whilst putting them in all the time.

They don't offer any special features that the Airpods don't already offer on Android, however the integration is largely better.

Basically in a vacuum, the Google Pods are not worth buying at all, and are a poor excuse for removing the 3.5mm jack on the Pixel 2.

        • @Shwayne: Thanks, that pretty much covers it! The no headphone jack thing is annoying me much more than I thought it would. Lately if I bump the dongle at all in my pocket it will pause my music. I purchased some $80 Brainwavz bluetooth buds and they are horrible. I'm thinking I should try the Airpods, I'm yet to see a negative comment about them.

    • Read somewhere a while ago, that they do work on other non-Apple devices, but dont expect the features from Apple's W1 to work on non-Apple devices.

Edit. i think you just dont get the ease of pairing.

      • The W1 low power stuff works fine with any Bluetooth device, the seamless pair swapping between multiple devices doesn't work, and the in-ear detection doesn't trigger anything on Android.

        • in-ear detection, is that where they stop when you take them out of your ears? How do you stop them then? Have to pull out your phone from your pocket and do it on the phone?

Do I have to manually pair and unpair them on Android? If they're in my pocket is my phone going to stay paired with them rather than use the phone speaker?

        • @bleeder: You can either pause them on your phone or tap them (twice?) before you remove them from your ears, you could also just put them in the case, which would also pause them.

RE: the pairing, put them in the case to stop the connection. (and charge them)

        • @Shwayne: Thanks again, all of those options would be suitable :) I think I'm gonna get them.

        • @bleeder: Please reply with your experiences! :)

        • +1

@Shwayne: Ended up grabbing from JB, price matched OW.

The sound quality exceeded my expectations. They stay in my ears pretty well, but I feel a little uneasy sometimes (went to sneeze the other day was worried they might come out! but I don't think they can..). My girlfriend knocked one out of my ear by accident yesterday, it seemed to survive the fall OK because they're pretty light.

Working well with my Pixel 2 XL except one thing. The volume sometimes drops to 50% (sounds like about 50%) suddenly, even though my phone says it's at 100%. Only way to fix it is to re-pair, I 'forget' them in Bluetooth settings, but then it takes about 5 mins for them to show up again. This has happened twice now in 3 days. I'm really happy with them apart from this bug…

        • @bleeder: How's the mic, does it work in voice recorder and phone calls, discord etc? (hows the quality in those?). Do the gestures work? I assume the in-ear presence doesn't work at all, but you can let me know. As for the volume bug, that sounds really annoying, I assume it might have something to do with the "safe listening levels" you can probably remove with root?

        • @Shwayne: Haven't tested out the mike much, doesn't seem to trigger Assistant. The double tap to pause/play works, are there any other gestures? Yes, in-ear presence doesn't work (doesn't seem that useful anyway). It does kind of 'feel' like the "safe listening levels" thing, but it doesn't actually say that on the phone when it happens.

        • +1

@bleeder: I just tried my colleagues airpods and what you said is pretty accurate, the volume issue is incredibly annoying and seems to happen whenever another application tries to play sound on them (notifications etc). There's tonnes of people complaining about it, and it seems the only way to fix it on the pixel is to go through the whole reconnection loop (put them in case, close take them out one by one and play some music as you go). Mic only seems to function in a phonecall, and the quality seems to be abysmal compared to the Pixel's mic. I'm unsure how to use any of the other gestures but double-tap to play/pause seems to work pretty well. This app lets you use assistant though it removes the play/pause functionality when the screen is locked -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dotarrow.a…

        • +1

@Shwayne: there's a solution to the volume bug here, I'll give it a try: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/78gou0/airpod_…

I'd rather have double-tap to play/pause than Assistant.

        • @bleeder: Hmm that's awesome, now I just need a way to skip songs and I'm sold.

        • @Shwayne: Yeah I wouldn't mind that and a volume control

        • +1

@Shwayne: FYI I'm using an app AirBattery, adds back a few of the features you miss out on with Android. In-ear presence is working with this app (for Google Music anyway), also I can see the battery levels using the app.

I see a few people using these in the gym and always wonder how they stay in, especially when lying down to do bench press etc.

The normal Apple headphones barely stay in my ears as is - I always use in-ear type earphones.

    • I honestly don't get why they went with earbuds, especially since their wired in-ears were actually quite decent.

      • -7

Because Tim Cook has no idea what he's doing.

        • And random schlubs on the Internet know it all of course…

    • They'd drop out for me then id never find them again

    • They fit my ears very well, I've benched and squatted with them with no issues. 90% sure I could go for a full sprint in these but since I never do cardio I guess I'll never find out. Oh well

    • If the normal headphones stay in your ear, these are good for you. Otherwise, no good. I've had no issues myself wearing at the gym or during cardio.

    • I had one nearly fall out on an incline bench today, in general they stay in my ears OK. I think before laying down to bench I probably need to give them a little push and make sure they are in place properly. I'm gonna buy some of these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/For-AirPod-Silicon-Charging-Case… or similar and see if they help (might get the Spigen ones)

If you missed it in the last AirPods deal, you can get a Good Guys Commercial account if you're with SunSuper and you can get these for $188.

I didn't have any luck with delivery. They called me the day after I ordered and said no stores had stock and I said no worries happy to wait. They called again a week later and insisted the order be cancelled and refunded because they did not know when new stock would arrive.

The online orders get passed on to a store close to you to process, it doesn't appear to be a separate warehouse with stock

  • I can get The Good Guys e-gift cards at 6% off so it ends up being $188 if anyone needs.

    • where did you get the discounted gift cards

  • Can you price match these at the Apple store? The local Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi don't have stock.

  • Tried to price match at JB Hi-Fi Queen St Mall and they wouldn't let me pay using gift cards.

Didn't know that was a thing?

    • +3

Shouldn't be! Would argue about that

    • +2

They are basically selling their own gift cards claiming it can be used for purchases and then refusing to honour them, which makes them gulty of false advertising.

      Mention ACCC.

    • Price matched with Harvey via chat. Paid using my Amex-HN gift cards deal and got it for $149. Nice.

      • Sir, please explain the Amex-HN gift card? or provide links please?

        • Unfortunately it has expired already.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/340003

        • @trump3: ah that one, yea i used it on note 8.

I thought it has expired end of last year, how did u manage to keep it til now?:

"Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $400 or more, in one or more transactions, online or in-store at Harvey Norman by 31/12/2017 to receive one $100 credit."

          @gutenmuach:

I bought HN gift cards :)

    • Worked out for me anyway since I went to Office Works at night, they had already dropped their price to $199 but the lady gave me 5% price beat anyway! Good karma works out eventually!

  • If you have an iPhone and want cordless, does it just make sense to buy these over a different brand?

  • As an owner of two sets of Airpods (for myself and my wife) I recommend you guys to wait:

    https://slate.com/technology/2018/02/the-new-airpods-look-li…

    • Wife has been nagging me for one, Thanks OP.

      • So you are going to use a stranger’s suggestion on the internet to stop your wife from nagging??

Godspeed man, you are a braver person than I am

        • No. I meant OP’s deal is good timing and so I already got one for delivery tomorrow. She saw me using one and so she wanted a pair.

Anyway I am looking forward to buy Airpods 2 next year. Bring it on.

  • How do they compare to Sol republic amps air?

  • +1

They are supposedly working on version two

So maybe worth the wait if you’ve waited already

  • Is the 'Check Stock / Delivery Cost' button not working for anyone else?

  • fk. just bought mine 229

    • Depending on where you bought it, you might be able to get the difference using their price guarantee

  • OW have dropped it to $199 as well

  • Will the Apple store price match?

  • +2

Hmmmmm seems the Good guys have taken them down off the website. All i know is i ordered Airpods from Good guys on 14th Feb and the only store that had them was based in Qld. I Live in Sydney. Still dont have them today but thats because Good guys use FastWay couriers which i strongly suggest you avoid. I Would recommend to anyone trying to buy these dont use good guys unless you know its coming via Australia Post! just try and price match at another shop.

    • Interested in ordering a pair from GG until seeing them using FastWay. Got bad experiences with Fastway in the past that we AVOID using them.

  • Is $199 the cheapest current price from GG?

  • No longer available at GG by the looks (or the link is broken) still $199 at Officeworks

  • +1

For those that are keen to get one. I just ordered one thru Harvey Norman for $189, price match with Umart. To avoid shipping fee, just signup for 2 month free trial with Shipster.

    • Tempting, just want to get it for a tad bit cheaper, hopefully another good deal comes round soon.
Already have 2 pairs of decent (completely cordless) earphones. Thanks for the heads-up.

      • I only want it for phone calls as none of the true wireless earbuds on the market offer good/consistent connections.

If you don’t mind, may you share me your brief review of the AirPods?

        • +1

"…as none of the true wireless earbuds on the market offer good/consistent connections."

My Bragi "The Headphone" do, but the much pricier the Bragi "Dash" don't, "jack of all master of none" it turned out to be.
"Dash Pro" looks much better (whilst having the same broad feature-set/capabilities), but still not good enough in the areas that matter most.

Not in a rush to buy it, as I was burnt in several ways by Bragi & their approach to customer interaction/support.
Plus it sounds like they haven't done enough in some critical areas, & "totally cordless" is fully mainstream now, so Bragi will prolly die within the next few yrs.

AirPods review? But I don't have them yet?
