Bugger really should read the whole deal, listed my item as soon as I saw this! Rookie mistake!

    • +6

Easily solved. Cancel the listing, and then hit the "re-list" button tomorrow. The difference is 10.9% in fees….not to be sneezed at.

      • Thanks just did that, didn't realize fees were so expensive these days!

        • +2

It's why I've almost given up on eBay, it's just too expensive. Add in the practically forced PayPal fees (since you can't opt out, and everyone who's bought from me pays with it), and they're taking an unreasonable cut.

Switched to selling most things on Facebook Marketplace. Once you weed out at the time-wasters offering cents on the dollar, I've had a great experience. Best of all, it's free!

        • +2

didn't realize fees were so expensive these days!

Yep, it's some circumstances it isn't worth the effort . 10.9% to ebay and another 2.6% (+30cents fixed fee) to PayPal.

Remember to use your free Sendle parcel too (one free parcel per ebay account).

          @Mitch889:

I use it like free advertising. I figure out the fees and add that on to the price, sure it might not sell but smart buyers sometimes find your cheaper add on Gumtree.

        • @WatchNerd:
          Lol. Thats a handy idea.
But how do you hint to 'smart buyers' so you can advertise on ebay, but have them actually buy from you in gumtree without fees ?
I thought ebay would ban you for advertising blatantly for buying outside of eBay/paypal fees.

        • +2

I've never done that, but have seen others put in their ads something like -

Item is advertised elsewhere so may be removed at any time.

          @Mitch889:

          it's just too expensive

It's not really, pre-internet days you'd pay $30+ for a few lines in the Trading Post with a fraction of the exposure that eBay has.

And you paid whether it sold or not.

So 10-13% only when an item sells is not expensive.

And ultimately it's the buyer who pays the fees, which should be incorporated into the listed price.

forced PayPal fees (since you can't opt out)

You're not forced to use PayPal, you can choose credit/debit cards.

Realistically though most people use and prefer PayPal, but it's not a requirement.

        • whats the free Sendle parcel please?

        • @ash2000: Got an email today from paypal saying theyre lowering their fees for 'website payment pro' from 2.6 +.30 to 1.75+ 0.3

        • +1

@joungs: Unfortunately Website Payments Pro also charges a monthly fee of $25 which is not so great for us small time sellers. Might be worth looking into for high volume sellers.

          @Queengoohon:

It's a courier service that is now integrated with eBay. Alternative to Australia Post. They use CouriersPlease and Fastway. In many cases, they are cheaper than Aupost (Significantly so for larger items) and they collect from your home or a business address. First Parcel is free.

        • @ash2000:

Wow what's this free sendle parcel thing? I listed a few items but didn't see this offer

        • @ash2000:

Oh sorry didn't see you replied to the same question. Thanks!

        • @Mitch889: it’s worth using ebay during these promotions rather than facebook. In my experience the buyers pay more on ebay, I’ve sold a stack of things for amounts more than I thought they worth. I think the buyers get sucked in with the auction format

        • @ash2000:

          Free sendle?
Please tell me more, gave an auction finishing soon that would love to save on post.

  • Ended 3 March. Does it mean the item has to be sold before promo ended?

    • +3

No. Just listed within the promo period.

    • +5

But if it doesn’t sell within 30 days and automatically realists you will be charged fees.

      • +7

Yes, a trap for young players, but easily solved by switching off "auto relist".

Important to note that even if the item auto relists during a promo period, it won't be eligible for the promo. However, if you manually press the "relist" button in this period it will be eligible.

  • Sweet. Accepted it.

  • any CR benefits when selling?

    • Only if you buy your own item….. In which case it's 1%. Not recommended.

      • The professionals at work again

      • +1

What if you sell an item to yourself worth $1M? Is that possible? You get $10,000 cashback haha

        • +1

          Max cashback is $50.
          Paypal fees is x%.

You will lose out in the end.

        • @Turd: do you have to pay through paypal to qualify though?

        • @Izefyre: Either way max cashback is $50 per transaction.

Do 20000 items and you will be suspicious towards ebay.

    • +5

If you're really bored, buy your own item under another account name then do a claim against yourself.

And don't forget to leave negative feedback.

    Cheers OP :)

Awesome been waiting for a deal like this

  • +2

Spending some time this morning ending and relisting all my listings. The added bonus of these deals is that you also don't pay the final fee on the postage cost either.

  • +3

That sux, I tried and it says "By Invitation Only"… Bugger!

  • ebay listing + final valuation + paypal fees are getting out of hand

    • For individuals:

feeBay listing fee + feeBay final value fee + GST on fees + Paypal fee.

  • +1

    Observations:

    • Last Sunday, when I had the $1 final value fee deal and another similar no fee offer (3 items only) both active, feeBay opted to pick/select the $1 final value fee (instead of the free fee offer). So, best not to list on Sundays if you also have the Sunday $1 final value fee per item offer.
    • (this could be wrong) I found feeBay seems to offer more deals to active sellers (even if you only sell low value items and only 1 item per week). On the account where I used to sell items, I hardly get any offer anymore (despite selling more items in total overall). Another account I just started using to sell items, feeBay seems to provide more deals (both for buying and selling). It's weird because the account I paid loads of fees over the years hardly gets anything.
  • If you do list on ebay outside these promotions, make sure you cover the fees ebay charge on postage! If a package costs $10 to post, and you list as $10 postage, you lose out unless you add the fees in somewhere.

    • how do you then compete with another potential seller offering free postage

      • With postage included in fee calculation (has been for years), sellers often just embed the cheapest postage option into the item price and offer so called "free" postage. Buyers do know there is no such thing as free postage, but from a listing point of view (sellers are rated better by feeBay when you offer "free" postage and feeBay sometimes put a little free postage icon on your listing's main photo).

Unless you can get really great postage discounts (so you can show off by listing the postage cost), there is no real advantage showing your postage cost. While you could show your postage is reasonable, buyers generally aren't happy with even discounted postage (and they can be cynical about lower than usual postage charges).

        • i guess that works for "buy it now" as opposed to "auction" items, as you cant really embed a price into an auction listing which could potentially start at $1

        • netsurfer, you'd be surprised how many do think it's free! Some don't even seem to think it costs money to post anything would you believe.

There are problems with "free postage" on listings.
One is if people buy multiple items (buyer overpays).

  • +1

does anyone else’s say 0 left for this?

    • Yes, it doesn't make sense, but don't worry about it.
As soon as you start listing items the 'Used' count will go up, 'Left' will remain at zero. It really should say infinity because they're unlimited.

  • I tried and won lol. I listed items as someone mentioned above. It didn't include the free final value thing. After listing those items, it offered me the promotion, in which i went back to myebay and stopped both listings. I then relisted them under the promotion. :)
